Radiology report generation is an essential task in the medical field, which aims to automate the generation of medical terminology descriptions of radiology images. However, this task currently suffers from several problems: 1) existing methods need to manually build knowledge graphs or templates (consuming time and effort) to introduce medical or prior knowledge to assist in report generation; 2) previous models cannot handle the problem of data bias well (anomaly reports and anomaly descriptions make up only a tiny portion of the dataset), causing the models to ignore the learning of anomaly descriptions easily; 3) existing approaches cannot robustly supervise the model, resulting in incomplete and inconsistent reports being generated. To address these issues, we propose a cross-modal interactive memory network based on fine-grained medical feature extraction. In our model, we design a cross-modal interactive memory network to automatically store and remember the required medical text knowledge and use this medical knowledge to help generate reports. Furthermore, we design an abnormal medical knowledge enhancement module to enhance the learning of abnormal fine-grained knowledge through the interaction of disease topics and their states to interact with text features. In addition, we design a cross-modal joint semantic loss unit to reduce semantic differences between different features and improve the visual representation ability of the model. We experimented and evaluated our model on MIMIC-CXR and IU-Xray datasets to compare with other baseline models.

3D medical image segmentation is an essential task in the medical image field, which aims to segment organs or tumours into different labels. A number of issues exist with the current 3D medical image segmentation task: existing models cannot simultaneously obtain the space correlation and depth correlation of 3D slices; previous models suffer from local detail loss of positional embedding in 3D images; previous approaches often have blurring of boundaries in segmenting 3D images. To solve these shortcomings, we propose a 3D medical image segmentation model named TPM-SAM. In our model, we design a twinchannel image encoder to simultaneously capture the space correlation and depth correlation of 3D slices through a multi-head attention mechanism and improved adapters. Furthermore, we design a prompt encoding generator, which divides the volumetric image into small blocks and better captures the local detail information. In addition, we introduce a multi-layer aggregation decoder by employing U-Net with multi-level skip connection to solve the blurring of boundaries in processing 3D images. Finally, we experimented and evaluated our model on KiTS21 and LiTS17 datasets to compare with other baseline models.

A ternary phase-field model for two-phase flows in complex geometries

In this work, a ternary phase-field model for two-phase flows in complex geometries is proposed. In this model, one of the three components in the classical ternary Cahn-Hilliard model is considered as the solid phase, and only one Cahn-Hilliard equation with degenerate mobility needs to be solved due to the condition of volume conservation, which is consistent with the standard phase-field model with a single-scalar variable for two-phase flows. To depict different wetting properties at the complex fluid-solid boundaries, the spreading parameters in ternary phase-field model are determined based on the Young's law, in which the liquid-solid surface tension coefficient is assumed to be a linear function of gas-liquid surface tension coefficient and related to the contact angle and the minimum curvature of the solid surface. In addition, to achieve a high viscosity in the solid phase and preserve the velocity boundary conditions on the solid surface, the phase-field variable of the solid phase is also used to derive the modified Navier-Stokes equations. To test the present model, we further develop a consistent and conservative Hermite-moment based lattice Boltzmann method where an adjustable scale factor is introduced to improve the numerical stability, and conduct the numerical simulations of several benchmark problems. Consistent and conservative phase-field-based lattice Boltzmann method for incompressible two-phase flows

In this work, we consider a general consistent and conservative phase-field model for the incompressible two-phase flows. In this model, not only the Cahn-Hilliard or Allen-Cahn equation can be adopted, but also the mass and the momentum fluxes in the Navier-Stokes equations are reformulated such that the consistency of reduction, consistency of mass and momentum transport, and the consistency of mass conservation are satisfied. We further develop a lattice Boltzmann (LB) method, and show that through the direct Taylor expansion, the present LB method can correctly recover the consistent and conservative phase-field model. Additionally, if the divergence of the extra momentum flux is seen as a force term, the extra force in the present LB method would include another term which has not been considered in the previous LB methods. To quantitatively evaluate the incompressibility and the consistency of the mass conservation, two statistical variables are introduced in the study of the deformation of a square droplet, and the results show that the present LB method is more accurate. The layered Poiseuille flow and a droplet spreading on an ideal wall are further investigated, and the numerical results are in good agreement with the analytical solutions. Finally, the problems of the Rayleigh-Taylor instability, a single rising bubble, and the dam break with the high Reynolds numbers and/or large density ratios are studied, and it is found that the present consistent and conservative LB method is robust for such complex two-phase flows.

In this paper, we developed a coupled diffuse-interface lattice Boltzmann method (DI-LBM) to study the transport of a charged particle in the Poiseuille flow, which is governed by the Navier-Stokes equations for fluid field and the Poisson-Boltzmann equation for electric potential field. We first validated the present DI-LBM through some classical benchmark problems, and then investigated the effect of electric field on the lateral migration of the particle in the Poiseuille flow. The numerical results show that the electric field has a significant influence on the particle migration. When an electric field in the vertical direction is applied to the charged particle initially located above the centerline of the channel, the equilibrium position of the particle would drop suddenly as the electric field is larger than a critical value. This is caused by the wall repulsion due to lubrication, the inertial lift related to shear slip, the lift owing to particle rotation, the lift due to the curvature of the undisturbed velocity profile, and the electric force. On the other hand, when an electric field in the horizontal direction is adopted, the equilibrium position of the particle would move toward the centerline of the channel with the increase of the electric field.

Epilepsy seriously damages the physical and mental health of patients. Detection of epileptic EEG signals in different periods can help doctors diagnose the disease. The change of frequency components during epilepsy seizures is obvious, and there may be noises in epilepsy EEG signals. Moreover, epileptic seizures are closely related to the release of neuronal spiking in the brain. In this paper, we propose an approach for epilepsy period classification based on combination feature extraction methods and spiking swarm intelligent optimization classification algorithm. First, combination feature extraction methods take in account both the time-frequency features and principal component features of epilepsy. The time-frequency features are obtained by WPT or STFT-PSD, and noises are removed while extracting principal component features by PCA. Second, spiking swarm intelligent optimization classification algorithm takes advantage of individual cooperation and information interaction with strong robustness. Its simulated neurons are closer to reality, which consider more information and obtain stronger computing power. The experimental results show that the average classification accuracy of the proposed method can reach 98.95% and the highest classification accuracy can reach 100%. Compared with other methods, the proposed method has the best classification performance. © 2020 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Emotion Recognition in Conversations (ERC) is a widely applicable task, whether in emotional chatbots or recommender systems for dialog scenarios. The ability of systems to accurately identify human emotions is a crucial component in ERC success. In everyday conversations, a speaker’s emotional expression is closely tied to their individual characteristics and personality traits. Furthermore, individuals exhibit significant variations in their expressions of the same emotion. Traditional methods for ERC often overlook these personality differences and dynamic changes, leading to unreliable results. To address this issue, we propose a conversation emotion recognition model based on dynamic modeling of speaker’s personality (ERC DMSP). In our approach, to extract a speaker’s personality profile, we design a personality capture module to model the personalities of individuals based on their historical utterances. Moreover, a bidirectional influence exists between a speaker’s personality tendencies and their linguistic behavior. The speaker’s personality profile is thus continually updated based on the ongoing dialog. Additionally, since the personalities of other speakers in the conversation can also affect the form and intensity of a speaker’s emotional expression, we construct a conversation emotion representation utilizing group personality traits. We then comprehensively incorporate the speaker’s personality into the emotion representation of each utterance at both the group and individual levels through the personality engagement module. Throughout this process, the representation of dialog and the speaker’s personality undergo hierarchical updates, leading to more accurate conversation emotion recognition. We conducted extensive experiments on four commonly used public benchmark datasets for ERC to evaluate the effectiveness of our proposed ERC DMSP model. A General Fourth-Order Mesoscopic Multiple-Relaxation-Time Lattice Boltzmann Model and Equivalent Macroscopic Finite-Difference Scheme for Two-Dimensional Diffusion Equations

In this work, we first develop a general mesoscopic multiple-relaxation-time lattice Boltzmann (MRT-LB) model for the two-dimensional diffusion equation with the constant diffusion coefficient and source term, where the D2Q5 (five discrete velocities in two-dimensional space) lattice structure is considered. Then we exactly derive the equivalent macroscopic finite-difference scheme of the MRT-LB model. Additionally, we also propose a proper MRT-LB model for the diffusion equation with a linear source term, and obtain an equivalent macroscopic six-level finite-difference scheme. After that, we conduct the accuracy and stability analysis of the finite-difference scheme and the mesoscopic MRT-LB model. It is found that at the diffusive scaling, both of them can achieve a fourth-order accuracy in space based on the Taylor expansion. The stability analysis also shows that they are both unconditionally stable. Finally, some numerical experiments are conducted, and the numerical results are also consistent with our theoretical analysis. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

A consistent and conservative diffuse-domain lattice Boltzmann method for multiphase flows in complex geometries

Modeling and simulation of multiphase flows in complex geomerties are challenging due to the complexity in describing the interface topology changes among different phases and the difficulty in implementing the boundary conditions on the irregular solid surface. In this work, we first developed a diffuse-domain (DD) based phase-field model for multiphase flows in complex geometries. In this model, the irregular fluid region is embedded into a larger and regular domain by introducing a smooth characteristic function. Then, the reduction-consistent and conservative phase-field equation for the multiphase field and the consistent and conservative Navier-Stokes equations for the flow field are reformulated as the diffuse-domain based consistent and conservative (DD-CC) equations where some additional source terms are added to reflect the effects of boundary conditions. In this case, there is no need to directly treat the complex boundary conditions on the irregular solid surface, and additionally, based on a matched asymptotic analysis, it is also shown that the DD-CC equations can converge to the original governing equations as the interface width parameter tends to zero. Furthermore, to solve the DD-CC equations, we proposed a novel and simple lattice Boltzmann (LB) method with a Hermite-moment-based collision matrix which can not only keep consistent and conservation properties, but also improve the numerical stability with a flexible parameter. With the help of the direct Taylor expansion, the macroscopic DD-CC equations can be recovered correctly from the present LB method. Finally, to test the capacity of LB method, several benchmarks and complex problems are considered, and the numerical results show that the present LB method is accurate and efficient for the multiphase flows in complex geomerties. © 2023, CC BY.

The evolution of online social media has reshaped public behaviors, and social data infused with emotions provides crucial decision support for sentiment analysis tasks. Conventional multimodal approaches, influenced by redundant information in feature extraction during sentiment analysis, often focus solely on modality interactions without considering the unique content of each modality. This paper introduces the HGB-HFN model, addressing feature redundancy by optimizing extracted features using metaheuristic algorithm techniques, achieving a higher accuracy optimal feature dataset at lower computational costs. To counteract the neglect of modal-independent information, a hybrid fusion approach is adopted. It prioritizes visual features to extract precise semantic and emotional information from textual content, training multiple base classifiers to learn independent and diverse discriminative information. Comparative experiments on streaming datasets MOSI and MOSEI demonstrate the computational approach’s superiority in both accuracy and efficiency over existing methods.
