During the 2018 IMIA General Assembly (GA) held on Oct 2018 in Sri Lanka, a new organization, the Middle East and North African Health Informatics Association (MENAHIA) was established as a regional non-governmental organization to promote Health Informatics in the region. Health Informatics activities in applications, education, and research have been growing in the Middle East and North African region for many years. Over the past year, health informatics initiatives within the region focused on the education sector and the workforce. The need to enhance the education delivery and methods is essential in promoting Health Informatics in the region as well as establishing master programs in many countries within the region. This paper provides an overview of the variety of initiatives that are occurring in the region and are endorsed by MENAHIA. © 2019 Thieme Medical Publishers, Inc.. All rights reserved.

This paper reports on the basic findings and future perspectives of a capacity building project funded by the European Union. The International Master of Science on Cyber Physical Systems (MS@CPS) is a collaborative project that aims to establish a master program in cyber physical systems (CPS). A consortium composed of nine partners proposed the project. Three partners are European and from Germany, UK and Sweden; while the other six partners are from the South Mediterranean region and include: Palestine, Jordan and Tunisia. The consortium is led by the University of Siegen in Germany who also manages the implementation of the work packages. CPS is an emerging engineering subject with significant economic and societal implications, which motivated the consortium to propose the establishment of a master program to offer educational and training opportunities at graduate level in the fields of CPS. In this paper, CPS as a field of study is presented with an emphasis on its importance, especially with regard to meeting local needs. A brief description of the project is presented in conjunction with the methodology for developing the courses and their learning outcomes.

Effectively reducing climate change requires marked, global behavior change. However, it is unclear which strategies are most likely to motivate people to change their climate beliefs and behaviors. Here, we tested 11 expert-crowdsourced interventions on four climate mitigation outcomes: beliefs, policy support, information sharing intention, and an effortful tree-planting behavioral task. Across 59,440 participants from 63 countries, the interventions’ effectiveness was small, largely limited to nonclimate skeptics, and differed across outcomes: Beliefs were strengthened mostly by decreasing psychological distance (by 2.3%), policy support by writing a letter to a future-generation member (2.6%), information sharing by negative emotion induction (12.1%), and no intervention increased the more effortful behavior—several interventions even reduced tree planting. Last, the effects of each intervention differed depending on people’s initial climate beliefs. These findings suggest that the impact of behavioral climate interventions varies across audiences and target behaviors. © 2024 American Association for the Advancement of Science. This study investigated the effect of choices made by salesperson in delivering information to the customer candidate. The delivered information may affect the decision made by the customer candidate. To deliver the information and the new knowledge, communication must be done along with interaction, which can be measured how interactive it is, interactivity. So, the salesperson is critical in the making of and in increasing the Willingness-To-Buy. In the other hand, some people just do not want to be disturbed. It may happen due to their personality, business, or annoying feeling. Right here, salesperson should try to increase the Willingness-To-Buy. It will create dilemma because those customer candidates who do not want to be disturbed, will not get any additional knowledge about the product. Moreover, this study also suggests that there is a chance for a salesperson does not need to explain but the product speak for itself to improve Willingness-To-Buy.

Forecasting has always been at the forefront of decision making and planning. The uncertainty that surrounds the future is both exciting and challenging, with individuals and organisations seeking to minimise risks and maximise utilities. The large number of forecasting applications calls for a diverse set of forecasting methods to tackle real-life challenges. This article provides a non-systematic review of the theory and the practice of forecasting. We provide an overview of a wide range of theoretical, state-of-the-art models, methods, principles, and approaches to prepare, produce, organise, and evaluate forecasts. We then demonstrate how such theoretical concepts are applied in a variety of real-life contexts. We do not claim that this review is an exhaustive list of methods and applications. However, we wish that our encyclopedic presentation will offer a point of reference for the rich work that has been undertaken over the last decades, with some key insights for the future of forecasting theory and practice. Given its encyclopedic nature, the intended mode of reading is non-linear. We offer cross-references to allow the readers to navigate through the various topics. We complement the theoretical concepts and applications covered by large lists of free or open-source software implementations and publicly-available databases. © 2020, CC BY.

In this paper we consider a networked system of natural-resource consumption, where the agents are governed by a recently reported model of consumer psychology Dynamics of the consumption for each agent are influenced by the state of the resource and consumption of her neighbors. The process is parameterized by the psychological characteristics of each agent. This study extends the original model to incorporate the underlying network topology and explores the effects of aggregation via densely-connected communities present in the network. The exercise yields new interpretations of the predictions made by the original model in context of the influence network. We present aggregation mechanisms first for certain canonical structures of the consuming population and later on for a class of non-canonically structured populations. In the end we present an approximate aggregation scheme for populations where only some inaccurate information of the consumer characteristics is available. © 2017

This paper presents a corrigendumto Theorems 2 and 3 in Siddiqui and Gabriel (2013). In brief, we revise the claim that their L-penalty approach yields a so-lution satisfying complementarity for any positive value of L, in general. This becomes evident when interpreting the L-penalty method as a weighted-sum scalarization of a bicriteria optimization problem. We also elaborate further assumptions under which the L-penalty approach yields a solution satisfying complementarity. Copyright © 2018, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Aaron Williams is the Senior Data Research Scientist in the Office of Diversity and Engagement at the University of Virginia School of Engineering and Applied Science. Before joining UVA Williams worked as a principal data analyst at a Fortune 100 financial technology company building models and reporting dashboards from enterprise scale data warehouses. Shanta Whitaker is a health policy consultant at Logistics Management Institute (LMI) a management consulting firm based in Tysons VA. Before switching to health policy Dr. Whitaker was the Associate Director of the Health Professions Advising Program at Yale University. Stephanie Yingling is a government consultant at Logistics Management Institute (LMI) a management consulting firm based in Tysons VA. An Air Force veteran she is also a PhD candidate pursuing her research in the field of Education focusing areas of Organizational Leadership and Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Inclusion. To meet projected labor demands in science and engineering, the workforce of the future must be educated today in increasing numbers. Indeed, science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) underpin the government's ability to defend the nation and to assure the vitality of the economy. STEM jobs are the fastest growing occupational category and, by 2020, 65% of all jobs in the U.S. will require a post-secondary degree with STEM literacy skills (Carnevale, Smith, & Strohl, 2013). However, according to the U.S. Department of Education, less than 25 percent of college students pursuing bachelor's degrees will be specializing in STEM fields (National Center for Education Statistics, 2012). In addition, the current STEM workforce is predominantly male and White or Asian, even as women and racial and ethnic minority groups are projected to comprise greater percentages of the U.S. population in the coming decades. To meet the growing global demand for a STEM workforce, every segment of the U.S. population will need to be engaged in a successful STEM education. A first critical step will be for academia, government, and nongovernmental agencies to understand the challenges diverse students face in their quest to join the STEM workforce. The goal of the project described in this article is to close the achievement gap of underrepresented minority and underserved students (URMS) and to contribute to addressing the STEM crisis facing the nation. In addition to the longitudinal, five phase research project outlined in this article, UVA engineering's Office of Diversity and Education (ODE) will work to assemble a comprehensive clearinghouse of survey and records data on factors related to STEM education from sources such as admissions, student affairs, student health, academic records and campus-wide surveys in institutional research offices, and UVA's own research and work.
