Generic model of metadata management system for data lakes

Data lake metadata management is crucial for clearly describing stored data and ensuring efficient search query results, especially for semi-structured and unstructured data. Moreover, high-quality metadata provides the necessary information for decision-making. Therefore, we propose a new approach called Metadata Management for Data Lakes (MMDL) based on metadata quality and classification. Additionally, we introduce a generic model adapted to the context of a data lake by including data lake zones to identify data location during its lifecycle. The model aligns with the proposed approach and enables the handling of metrics used to evaluate metadata quality and metadata sources for provenance classification. Decisions made by intelligent Tutoring systems (ITS) in e-learning should not only be appropriate to the learning situation but also be understood by the learner. This increases the level of acceptance of the recommendations offered by the system to the learner and provides additional data that increases the learner’s trust in the ITS decisions. The mapping mechanism we used (Cognitive Maps of Knowledge Diagnosis, CMKD) allows us to organize the visual accompaniment of the dialog. In this research, we used different types of CMKDs and their display modes to interact with learners and evaluated their impact on the credibility (explainability) of the tutoring system’s decisions in the context of the cross-cutting approach to learning situation analysis. It was experimentally shown that particular and simplified maps are most effective under different strategies for conducting explanatory dialog with ITS. These conclusions are consistent with the results of the questionnaire. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

The paper provides a theoretical summary of the accumulated experience in application of cognitive maps of knowledge diagnosis (CMKD) to support intelligent Decision Support systems (IDSS) in various areas of cyber-social systems development. The mapping method is identified and specified for knowledge diagnosis tasks. The essence of the CMKD method, the structure of the formed graphical image and the principles of its automatic synthesis based on digital footprint data are described. A classification of maps in the CMKD graphical notation is given and each option is described. The properties of maps are listed and the logic of their automatic analysis when providing explainable decisions in IDSS is described. Examples from various areas of analysis and decision making are given as illustrations. In conclusion, the specifics of the practical application of the CMKD method are discussed based on the results of fifteen years of experience in using this cognitive visualization method. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

In this paper we propose a robust approach that combines classical computer vision with a smart setup that enables a NAO humanoid robot to play with children. Blocks are adopted as playing objects as they are widely used and are a highly versatile support. This approach addresses the challenges of object reaching and grasping, by allowing the robot to approach the table over which activity is carried out, orient appropriately, plan the reaching movement that is executed partly through direct and partly through inverse kinematics, grasp the block, moving it over the table and releasing it into its target position. By integrating visual information provided by the robot cameras into a closed-loop control system, no additional sensors are required. This approach enables not only children to play with a Humanoid robot in a richer way, but also to be used to treat cognitive / motor deficits inside what is termed Robot Assisted Therapy. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

This project aims to explore and apply the best practices of Augmented Reality (AR) design to the board play. We adapted the Monopoly game, developing an AR version that integrates the traditional game with new elements to take advantage of the virtual world. Our goal is to explore which AR game rules and mechanics can be incorporated into board game design to create a more engaging and effective experience for players. With ARnopoly, we specifically examined the strengths of augmented reality and the weaknesses that need to be addressed to seamlessly integrate the physical board play with the digital experience. ARnopoly was tested involving 7 participants, and from the analysis of their feedback it emerged that the integration of the board play with AR increases the immersion in the game and the overall positive feeling. However, in the long run, since the monopoly-like game is very long-lasting, this positivity is dampened by the constraint of holding the device in hand which causes fatigue in the user. © 2024 for this paper by its authors.

Quasi-anti-parity–time-symmetric single-resonator micro-optical gyroscope with Kerr nonlinearity

Parity–time(PT) and quasi-anti-parity–time(quasi-APT) symmetric optical gyroscopes have been proposed recently which enhance Sagnac frequency splitting. However, the operation of gyroscopes at the exceptional point(EP) is challenging due to strict fabrication requirements and experimental uncertainties. We propose a new quasi-APT-symmetric micro-optical gyroscope which can be operated at the EP by easily shifting the Kerr nonlinearity. A single resonator is used as the core sensitive component of the quasi-APT-symmetric optical gyroscope to reduce the size, overcome the strict structural requirements and detect small rotation rates. Moreover, the proposed scheme also has an easy readout method for the frequency splitting. As a result, the device achieves a frequency splitting 10~5 times higher than that of a classical resonant optical gyroscope with the Earth's rotation. This proposal paves the way for a new and valuable method for the engineering of micro-optical gyroscopes.

This study aims to provide a comprehensive literature review on the use of mobile applications in facilitating the development of communication skills among children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) mobile applications have facilitated communication among individuals with ASD who have limited communication abilities. This has enabled them to interact with each other and overcome the challenges associated with communication barriers. Individuals with ASD may decline to utilize AAC devices in public settings owing to the artificial-sounding voice produced by such devices. In many instances, these vocal expressions are incongruent with the physical or behavioral attributes of the individuals producing them. The development of a personalized and organic speech synthesis system, coupled with an AAC mobile application, may be deemed a viable resolution to the aforementioned communication challenge. Consequently, the amalgamation of these two concepts has the potential to facilitate the development of a mobile application that could effectively address communication challenges experienced by individuals with ASD. © 2023 IEEE.

The development of vehicle-to-grid technologies has been aided by the increased mobility of electric vehicles. Bidirectional power flow is made possible by vehicle-to-grid, or V2X, technology, which connects an electric vehicle’s battery to the other side. A specialized electric vehicle battery charger that enables bidirectional power transfer between the electric vehicle battery and the other side is necessary for the implementation of V2X technology. Typically, the main parts of an On Board charger are AC/DC with power factor correction (PFC) and DC/DC converter. In this paper, we focus on the second part which is the DC/DC converter, especially the bidirectional LLC resonant converter due to its high-performance efficiency. The resonant converter is controlled by varying the switching frequency;its formula can be extracted using the transfer function of the converter. A resonant DC/DC converter consists of 4 blocks the first one is the bridge composed of 4 switches its role is to generate a square wave signal, then a resonant tank (composed of Lm, Lr, and Cr), and after that, the signal is transferred to the second side via the transformer, which steps up or down the voltage, and then the switch bridge rectifier transforms AC voltage to DC allowing the bidirectional flow of power. In the field of automated language processing, distinguishing between Moroccan Arabic (Darija) in multilingual contexts is a major challenge. This study addresses this challenge by exploiting feature selection techniques to improve the accuracy of tongue detection. Using a comprehensive methodology integrating various feature selection methods, including TF-idf, CBOW, Word2Vec for feature extraction, LASSO regression, decision trees for machine learning techniques, and statistical feature selection such as ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient, and Mutual information, alongside semantic techniques by developing our semantic encoders adapted to Arabic data, we strive to uncover the most important, relevant language features while attenuating the noise. As a result, we have obtained robust results by applying the famous XGBOOST, with conventional extraction methods and SVD as a dimensional reduction method with a very reasonable execution time. Our experimental results highlight the effectiveness of feature selection techniques to reinforce supervised learning tasks. This research not only advances the field of natural language processing but also highlights the central role of feature selection in deciphering complex linguistic landscapes. © Bharati Vidyapeeth's Institute of Computer Applications and Management 2024.
