The contribution of this study is to present the Einstein Weighted Averaging Operator (EWAO) based on the Einstein Sum (ES) under the Single-Valued Ambiguous Set (SVAS) information, which is termed as 'SVASEA'. The SVAS theory (SVAST) was offered to address ambiguity as the generalization of fuzzy set (FS). It is powerful than the FS and Intuitionistic FS due to four different degrees of memberships. Then, to apply the SVASea operator to real life problems, a framework is presented to include it in the information fusion of decision making (DM) process. Moreover, the selection of Electrical Distribution System (EDS) is carried out using the proposed operator and proposed framework to show its applicability. The obtained results and comparative analysis show the feasibility and validity of the SVASEA operator. © 2024 IEEE.

How individual dispersal patterns and human intervention behaviours affect the spread of infectious diseases constitutes a central problem in epidemiological research. This paper develops an impulsive nonlocal faecal-oral model with free boundaries, where pulses are introduced to capture a periodic spraying of disinfectant, and nonlocal diffusion describes the long-range dispersal of individuals, and free boundaries represent moving infected fronts. We first check that the model has a unique nonnegative global classical solution. Then, the principal eigenvalue, which depends on the infected region, the impulse intensity, and the kernel functions for nonlocal diffusion, is examined by using the theory of resolvent positive operators and their perturbations. Based on this value, this paper obtains that the diseases are either vanishing or spreading, and provides criteria for determining when vanishing and spreading occur. At the end, a numerical example is presented in order to corroborate the theoretical findings and to gain further understanding of the effect of the pulse intervention. Sentiment analysis (SA) plays a vital role in Natural Language Processing (NLP) by identifying sentiments expressed in text. Although significant advances have been made in SA for widely spoken languages, low-resource languages such as Hausa face unique challenges, primarily due to a lack of digital resources. This study investigates the effectiveness of Language-Adaptive Fine-Tuning (LAFT) to improve SA performance in Hausa. We first curate a diverse, unlabeled corpus to expand the model’s linguistic capabilities, followed by applying LAFT to adapt AfriBERTa specifically to the nuances of the Hausa language. The adapted model is then fine-tuned on the labeled NaijaSenti sentiment dataset to evaluate its performance. Our findings demonstrate that LAFT gives modest improvements, which may be attributed to the use of formal Hausa text rather than informal social media data. Nevertheless, the pre-trained AfriBERTa model significantly outperformed models not specifically trained on Hausa, highlighting the importance of using pre-trained models in low-resource contexts. This research emphasizes the necessity for diverse data sources to advance NLP applications for low-resource African languages. Existing communication hardware is being exerted to its limits to accommodate for the ever increasing internet usage globally. This leads to non-linear distortion in the communication link that requires non-linear equalization techniques to operate the link at a reasonable bit error rate. This paper addresses the challenge of blind non-linear equalization using a variational autoencoder (VAE) with a second-order Volterra channel model. The VAE framework’s costfunction, the evidence lower bound (ELBO), is derived for real-valued constellations and can be evaluated analytically without resorting to sampling techniques. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach through simulations on a synthetic Wiener-Hammerstein channel and a simulated intensity modulated direct detection (IM/DD) optical link. The results show significant improvements in equalization performance, compared to a VAE with linear channel assumptions, highlighting the importance of appropriate channel modeling in unsupervised VAE equalizer frameworks. © 2015 IEEE.

A well-balanced exploration-exploitation trade-off is crucial for successful acquisition functions in Bayesian optimization. However, there is a lack of quantitative measures for exploration, making it difficult to analyze and compare different acquisition functions. This work introduces two novel approaches – observation traveling salesman distance and observation entropy – to quantify the exploration characteristics of acquisition functions based on their selected observations. Using these measures, we examine the explorative nature of several well-known acquisition functions across a diverse set of black-box problems, uncover links between exploration and empirical performance, and reveal new relationships among existing acquisition functions. Beyond enabling a deeper understanding of acquisition functions, these measures also provide a foundation for guiding their design in a more principled and systematic manner. © 2025, CC BY.

We rigorously investigate the convergence of a new numerical method, recently proposed by the authors, to approximate the reproduction numbers of a large class of age-structured population models with finite age span. The method consists in reformulating the problem on a space of absolutely continuous functions via an integral mapping. For any chosen splitting into birth and transition processes, we first define an operator that maps a generation to the next one (corresponding to the Next Generation Operator in the case of R0). Then, we approximate the infinite-dimensional operator with a matrix using pseudospectral discretization. In this paper, we prove that the spectral radius of the resulting matrix converges to the true reproduction number, and the (interpolation of the) corresponding eigenvector converges to the associated eigenfunction, with convergence order that depends on the regularity of the model coefficients. Although wireless networks are extremely important in modern communication, one of the most significant challenges they face is the quantity of energy that they use. Within this study, a new way of sending data over wireless networks is suggested. The gravitational search algorithm (GSA) and residue networks of the ResNet type are used together in this method. By using wireless networks, the main goal of this method is to find answers to problems that come up with using energy more efficiently. The creation and use of a hybrid ResNet-GSA model for wireless communication is one of the most important parts of our method. Because it follows the rules of gravity, GSA can quickly look through the solution space to find the right parameter values. At the same time, the network works better when the deep learning features of ResNet are used. The results of our research show that there are big improvements in how much energy is used compared to using traditional ways. If you want to cut down on the amount of energy used, the ResNet-GSA strategy that was suggested also works well. The findings demonstrate that optimisation techniques and deep learning methodologies are not only compatible with one another but also perform effectively together to make wireless networks more environmentally friendly. © 2024 IEEE.

Noise reduction schemes (NR) in hearing aids (HA) can improve speech understanding for people with hearing impairment (HI). Until now, the audio-only presentation has dominated laboratory tests in hearing science. The visual component, however, is known to affect sound perception and human behavior. In this study, two speech-in-noise tests, one using audio-only presentation (Test 1) and the other using Virtual-Reality (VR)-based audiovisual presentation (Test 2), were administrated on twenty-seven HI participants to explore the effect of NR via a range of HA settings. The participants were instructed to fix their gaze (and were not instructed on head movements) in Test 1, but could freely move their heads in Test 2. Moreover, in Test 2, a binary head movement classification (HMC) was recorded, and a simulator sickness questionnaire (SSQ) was used to assess the cybersickness. The result indicated that NR was a significant factor in both tests, which agreed with its appreciation found in earlier studies. However, the effect size in Test 2 was smaller. When involving HMC, a significant interaction between HMC and NR was found. Namely that for the participants classified as with head movement, NR was found not significant. Moreover, HMC was found significant in explaining all cybersickness symptoms. That is the participants classified as with head movement experienced greater cybersickness. © ICA *** rights reserved
