We examine the behavior of a colloidal particle immersed in a viscoelastic bath undergoing stochastic resetting at a rate r. Microscopic probes suspended in viscoelastic environment do not follow the classical theory of Brownian motion. This is primarily because the memory from successive collisions between the medium particles and the probes does not necessarily decay instantly as opposed to the classical Langevin equation. To treat such a system one needs to incorporate the memory effects to the Langevin equation. The resulting equation formulated by Kubo, known as the Generalized Langevin equation (GLE), has been instrumental to describe the transport of particles in inhomogeneous or viscoelastic environments. The purpose of this work, henceforth, is to study the behavior of such a colloidal particle governed by the GLE under resetting dynamics. To this end, we extend the renewal formalism to compute the general expression for the position variance and the correlation function of the resetting particle driven by the environmental memory. These generic results are then illustrated for the prototypical example of the Jeffreys viscoelastic fluid model. In particular, we identify various timescales and intermittent plateaus in the transient phase before the system relaxes to the steady state;and further discuss the effect of resetting pertaining to these behaviors. Variational quantum algorithms (VQAs) are hybrid quantum-classical approaches used for tackling a wide range of problems on noisy intermediate-scale quantum (NISQ) devices. Testing these algorithms on relevant hardware is crucial to investigate the effect of noise and imperfections and to assess their practical value. Here, we implement a variational algorithm designed for optimized parameter estimation on a continuous variable platform based on squeezed light, a key component for high-precision optical phase estimation. We investigate the ability of the algorithm to identify the optimal metrology process, including the optimization of the probe state and measurement strategy for small-angle optical phase sensing. Two different optimization strategies are employed, the first being a gradient descent optimizer using Gaussian parameter shift rules to estimate the gradient of the cost function directly from the measurements. The second strategy involves a gradient-free Bayesian optimizer, fine-tuning the system using the same cost function and trained on the data acquired through the gradient-dependent algorithm. We find that both algorithms can steer the experiment towards the optimal metrology process. However, they find minima not predicted by our theoretical model, demonstrating the strength of variational algorithms in modelling complex noise environments, a non-trivial task. Hemispheric asymmetry is a universal property of brain organization with wide implications into brain function and structure, and diseases. This study presents a laterality index for characterizing hemispheric asymmetries that underlie cortical maps using geometric eigenmodes derived from human cortical surfaces. We develop a generalized design to quantify asymmetries across various cortical spatial scales. While the design is individual-specific, we implement normalization steps to enable unbiased comparisons across individuals. As a proof of concept, we validated the method on cortical maps of 545 subjects across two datasets, using fMRI maps of healthy individuals and tau-PET maps of patients across the Alzheimer's disease continuum. Our results reveal that cortical regions in different canonical functional networks have connectivity patterns that entail different degrees of hemispheric asymmetry. Moreover, aggregates of the pathological tau protein manifest subtle asymmetries at varying spatial scales along the disease continuum.

In order to understand the microscopic properties of the ferroelectric nanoparticles, we review concepts of the attractive BaTiO3 nanocrystals where a photon field from its constituent electrons and ions are considered. We present an associated Hamiltonian and extended potential which are the bases of the physical description of the system from certain geometry of the semiquantal space with the specific phonon mode. Furthermore, we formulate the nonlinear dynamics equation of the systems with the famous microscopic Hamiltonian and Heisenberg equation of motion. In addition, we interest ourselves to a system of BaTiO3 nanocrystals and hypothesis leading to order-disorder nature of phase transitions. The latter are linked to the cooperative phenomenon of chains. The numerical simulations reveal that complex behaviors propagate in such system. © 2022, CC BY.

In this paper it is investigated a structure of the SMART tourism recommender system. Basic approaches for generating recommendations in an automated mode for selecting the best tourist routes in the SMART City Tourism network has been determined. This approaches are based on the analysis of the accumulated information about the most popular tourist destinations. It is proposed a mathematical model which provides, on the basis of knowledge about tourist sites, the possibility of construction optimal sequence of tourist routes. The proposed algorithm are based on the technology of online analytical processing of OLAP data selected from DW and organized in the form of OLAP Cubes. © 2020 IEEE.

Resolving molecular contributions of ion channel noise to interspike interval variability through stochastic shielding

Molecular fluctuations can lead to macroscopically observable effects. The random gating of ion channels in the membrane of a nerve cell provides an important example. The contributions of independent noise sources to the variability of action potential timing has not previously been studied at the level of molecular transitions within a conductance-based model ion-state graph. Here we study a stochastic Langevin model for the Hodgkin-Huxley (HH) system based on a detailed representation of the underlying channel-state Markov process, the "14 × 28D model" introduced in (Pu and Thomas 2020, Neural Computation). We show how to resolve the individual contributions that each transition in the ion channel graph makes to the variance of the interspike interval (ISI). We extend the mean–return-time (MRT) phase reduction developed in (Cao et al. 2020, SIAM J. Appl. Math) to the second moment of the return time from an MRT isochron to itself. Because fixed-voltage spike-detection triggers do not correspond to MRT isochrons, the inter-phase interval (IPI) variance only approximates the ISI variance. We find the IPI variance and ISI variance agree to within a few percent when both can be computed. Moreover, we prove rigorously, and show numerically, that our expression for the IPI variance is accurate in the small noise (large system size) regime;our theory is exact in the limit of small noise. By selectively including the noise associated with only those few transitions responsible for most of the ISI variance, our analysis extends the stochastic shielding (SS) paradigm (Schmandt and Galán 2012, Phys. Rev. Lett.) from the stationary voltage-clamp case to the current-clamp case. We show numerically that the SS approximation has a high degree of accuracy even for larger, physiologically relevant noise levels. Finally, we demonstrate that the ISI variance is not an unambiguously defined quantity, but depends on the choice of voltage level set as the spike-detection threshold. We

Minimal model structure analysis for input reconstruction in federated learning

Federated Learning (FL) proposed a distributed Machine Learning (ML) framework where every distributed worker owns a complete copy of global model and their own data. The training is occurred locally, which assures no direct transmission of training data. However, the recent work [Zhu et al., 2019] demonstrated that input data from a neural network may be reconstructed only using knowledge of gradients of that network, which completely breached the promise of FL and sabotaged the user privacy. In this work, we aim to further explore the theoretical limits of reconstruction, speedup and stabilize the reconstruction procedure. We show that a single input may be reconstructed with the analytical form, regardless of network depth using a fully-connected neural network with one hidden node. Then we generalize this result to a gradient averaged over batches of size B. In this case, the full batch can be reconstructed if the number of hidden units exceeds B. For a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN), the number of required kernels in convolutional layers is decided by multiple factors, e.g., padding, kernel and stride size, etc. We require the number of kernels h ≥ (d/d')2C, where we define d as input width, d' as output width after convolutional layer, and C as channel number of input. We validate our observation and demonstrate the improvements using bio-medical (fMRI, White Blood Cell (WBC)) and benchmark data (MNIST, Kuzushiji-MNIST, CIFAR100, ImageNet and face images). The rapid proliferation of Internet of Things (IoT) systems has introduced complex networks of interconnected devices, computational resources, and web-based communication infrastructure. Privacy protection in IoT data routing is critical to enabling secure deployment of large language models (LLMs) for processing distributed sensor data, user queries, and device-generated content. However, IoT environments inherently involve heterogeneous devices, dynamic network topologies, and resource-constrained nodes, complicating the design of privacy-preserving routing mechanisms that simultaneously ensure reliability across diverse communication layers. To address these challenges, we propose an innovative FtPR (Fault-tolerant Privacy Routing) model based on secure multiparty computing mechanism, which enables secure and efficient data fusion and transmission in IoT networks. FtPR establishes a novel connection between IoT device clusters and data center network architecture AQDNn routers, leveraging the hierarchical architecture of AQDNn to construct completely independent spanning trees (CIST). By exploiting the non-overlapping paths between nodes in distinct CISTs, FtPR achieves fault-tolerant routing while maintaining privacy guarantees. Building on this framework, we introduce a secure multiparty computing mechanism to perturb link weights in the AQDNn. This ensures that link weights across different CISTs adhere to constrained ranges, preventing adversarial inference of routing paths. Each node operates with localized knowledge of its connected link weights, eliminating the need for global network visibility. Consequently, even if malicious actors compromise one or multiple nodes, they cannot reconstruct end-to-end communication paths, thereby preserving route anonymity. Experimental results demonstrate that FtPR improves IoT network performance and security, reducing misclassification rates and marginal release score compared to state-of-the-art methods. © 2014 IEEE.

The goal of this research was to analyse and predict the wear characteristics of sustainable metal matrix composites using machine learning with a decision-making algorithm. The study used Al 7072 alloy with nano-particle SiC as an alloying element, which was added in three different compositions (0.3 %, 0.6%, and 0.9 % ) through stir casting. The experiment was based on the Taguchi L27 orthogonal array and an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) was utilised as a machine learning approach to predict the responses with 100% accuracy. The input parameters were composition (C), load (R), and rotation speed (S), while the responses were the Specific wear rate (Spr) and friction coefficient (Fc), which were optimised using the Taguchi combined optimisation technique. The results showed that the ANN approach was effective in predicting the wear characteristics of the sustainable metal matrix composites and the Taguchi combined optimisation technique improved the wear resistance and friction coefficient. This study provides a valuable contribution to the field of sustainable materials, as the findings can be used to improve the design and production of sustainable metal matrix composites with improved wear characteristics, which can lead to a reduction in energy consumption and environmental impact.

Morphosyntactic Probing of Multilingual BERT Models

We introduce an extensive dataset for multilingual probing of morphological information in language models (247 tasks across 42 languages from 10 families), each consisting of a sentence with a target word and a morphological tag as the desired label, derived from the Universal Dependencies treebanks. We find that pre-trained Transformer models (mBERT and XLM-RoBERTa) learn features that attain strong performance across these tasks. We then apply two methods to locate, for each probing task, where the disambiguating information resides in the input. The first is a new perturbation method that "masks" various parts of context;the second is the classical method of Shapley values. The most intriguing finding that emerges is a strong tendency for the preceding context to hold more information relevant to the prediction than the following context. © 2023, CC BY.
