Motivation Behavioral observations are an important resource in the study and evaluation of psychological phenomena, but it is costly, time-consuming, and susceptible to bias. Thus, we aim to automate coding of human behavior for use in psychotherapy and research with the help of artificial intelligence (AI) tools. Here, we present an analysis plan. Methods Videos of a gold-standard semi-structured diagnostic interview of 25 youth with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and 12 youth without a psychiatric diagnosis (no-OCD) will be analyzed. Youth were between 8 and 17 years old. Features from the videos will be extracted and used to compute ratings of behavior, which will be compared to ratings of behavior produced by mental health professionals trained to use a specific behavioral coding manual. We will test the effect of OCD diagnosis on the computationally-derived behavior ratings using multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA). Using the generated features, a binary classification model will be built and used to classify OCD/no-OCD classes. Discussion Here, we present a pre-defined plan for how data will be pre-processed, analyzed and presented in the publication of results and their interpretation. A challenge for the proposed study is that the AI approach will attempt to derive behavioral ratings based solely on vision, whereas humans use visual, paralinguistic and linguistic cues to rate behavior. Another challenge will be using machine learning models for body and facial movement detection trained primarily on adults and not on children. The problem of choosing the optimal urban transport modes is a broad and challenging subject to study and will be addressed in this document. The current urban transport problem affects the environment the most. Many modes of urban transport use energy from exhaust gas, which is a significant air pollutant. The fuels that powering those modes of transportation are also a non-renewable source of energy, which means that they will run out at some point and no longer be able to available. The solution to this problem could be to replace urban transport combustion vehicles with green-energy vehicles. One such means is electric scooters, whose energy source can be renewable electricity. Currently, there are many types of electric scooters on offer, which differ from each other by some important parameters. Choosing the optimum electric scooter is a significant issue. Investing in electric scooters for the city can bring big economic and environmental profits. These issues would be the primary motivation and justification to undertake this research. In this paper, the Characteristic Objects METhod (COMET) is used to identify the assessment model electric scooters for the sustainable development of cities. This approach has an extremely rare feature in the Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) methods, i.e., it is resistant to the paradox of reversal of rankings and is easy to use for an expert. This technique is crucial as an uncomplicated and effective way of solving decision-making problems. For the problem of selecting electric scooters, an expert was chosen, who identified the model by making pairwise comparisons of characteristic objects. Then, the model was used to evaluate the alternatives, and so a ranking of considered electric scooters was created. Once identified, the model can evaluate the next set of alternatives, which is important in such a dynamic market of new technologies. © 2020 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V.

In this study, we propose a mathematical model of a 4D clustered traveling salesman problem (CTSP) to address the cost-effective security and risk-related difficulties associated with the TSP. We used a multiparent-based memetic genetic algorithm to optimize paths between all clusters and proposed unique heuristic approaches to create clusters and reconnect them. We constructed a 4D CTSP considering multiple routes between two locations and multiple available vehicles on each route. Travel expenses and risks impact every itinerary;however, the behaviors of these costs and risks are always uncertain. We inspected various standard benchmark problems from (TSPLIB) using the proposed calculations. Real-life problems in the tourism industry motivate a longitude–latitude-based CTSP with risk constraints. Thus, we determined the risk of each path based on longitude and latitude. The contributions of this study are twofold: developing a genetic algorithm and heuristics based on mathematical modeling of a real problem. © 2023 The Author(s)

Multi-criteria decision-methods (MCDA) has a broad field of applications in various areas, such as engineering, logistic, health management, and others. Their main objective is to rank the decision variants, from the best to the worst. It is always essential to get a reliable solution to a decision problem. However, rankings obtained with different MCDA methods are often different, and that is why an interesting research gap is related to measuring the accuracy and reliability of MCDA methods. In this paper, we examine how much different can be rankings obtained using TOPSIS and VIKOR methods. For this purpose, we apply classical versions of TOPSIS and VIKOR methods to randomly generated decision matrices with different criteria and alternatives. Then, we compare the obtained ranking using three ranking similarity coefficients. The comparison results of conducted simulations are represented as boxplots, which contain the primary distribution of similarity of results calculated using the tested methods. The work is finished with a discussion and conclusions on the results in different classes of problems. © 2020 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V.

Local Thermal Non-Equilibrium Models in Porous Media: A Comparative Study of Conduction Effects

Instantaneous heat transfer between different phases is a common assumption for modeling heat transfer in porous media, known as Local Thermal Equilibrium (LTE). This assumption may not hold in certain technical and environmental applications, especially in systems with large temperature gradients, large differences in thermal properties, or high velocities. Local Thermal Non-Equilibrium (LTNE) models aim to describe heat transfer processes when the LTE assumption may fail. In this work, we compare three continuum-scale models from the pore to the representative elementary volume (REV) scale. Specifically, dual-network and REV-scale models are evaluated against a pore-resolved model, which we perceive as a reference in the absence of experimental results. Different effective models are used to obtain upscaled properties on the REV scale and to compare resulting temperature profiles. The systems investigated are fully saturated, consisting of one fluid and one solid phase. This study focuses on purely conductive systems without significant differences in thermal properties. Results show that LTE holds then for low interfacial resistances. However, for large interfacial resistances, solid and fluid temperatures differ. The REV-scale model with effective parameters obtained by homogenization leads to similar results as the pore-resolved model, whereas the dual-network model shows greater deviation due to its fixed spatial resolution. Among the evaluated effective parameter formulations for the REV-scale model, only the homogenization-based approach captures the LTNE behavior, as it incorporates the interfacial heat transfer coefficient. Matrix measures, stability and contraction theory for dynamical systems on time scales

This paper is concerned with the study of the stability of dynamical systems evolving on time scales. We first formalize the notion of matrix measures on time scales, prove some of their key properties and make use of this notion to study both linear and nonlinear dynamical systems on time scales. Specifically, we start with considering linear time-varying systems and, for these, we prove a time scale analogous of an upper bound due to Coppel. We make use of this upper bound to give stability and input-to-state stability conditions for linear time-varying systems. Then, we consider nonlinear time-varying dynamical systems on time scales and establish a sufficient condition for the convergence of the solutions. Finally, after linking our results to the existence of a Lyapunov function, we make use of our approach to study certain epidemic dynamics and complex networks. For the former, we give a sufficient condition on the parameters of a SIQR model on time scales ensuring that its solutions converge to the disease-free solution. For the latter, we first give a sufficient condition for pinning controllability of complex time scale networks and then use this condition to study certain collective opinion dynamics. One of the main challenges in modeling massive stars to the onset of core collapse is the computational bottleneck of nucleosynthesis during advanced burning stages. The number of isotopes formed requires solving a large set of fully-coupled stiff ordinary differential equations (ODEs), making the simulations computationally intensive and prone to numerical instability. To overcome this barrier, we design a nuclear neural network (NNN) framework with multiple hidden layers to emulate nucleosynthesis calculations and conduct a proof-of-concept to evaluate its performance. The NNN takes the temperature, density and composition of a burning region as input and predicts the resulting isotopic abundances along with the energy generation and loss rates. We generate training sets for initial conditions corresponding to oxygen core depletion and beyond using large nuclear reaction networks, and compare the predictions of the NNNs to results from a commonly used small net. We find that the NNNs improve the accuracy of the electron fraction by 280 − 660 % and the nuclear energy generation by 250 − 750 %, consistently outperforming the small network across all timesteps. They also achieve significantly better predictions of neutrino losses on relatively short timescales, with improvements ranging from 100 − 106 %. While further work is needed to enhance their accuracy and applicability to different stellar conditions, integrating NNN trained models into stellar evolution codes is promising for facilitating large-scale generation of core-collapse supernova (CCSN) progenitors with higher physical fidelity. © 2025, CC BY.

In the paper, one parabolic-type boundary value problem is solved for determining the temperature field of the raw cotton and air components in drum dryers. In the proposed model, convective heat transfer is used according to Newton’s law and the evaporation of moisture from the components of raw cotton (seeds, fiber) and the influence of air velocity are taken intoaccount. The resulting system of Galerkin’s differential equations is solved by the finite-difference method in time. It is shown that the approximate solution is estimated according to Galerkin method in Sobolev space. The numerical results of the considered problem are obtained by the Bubnov–Galerkin method. A comparative analysis is carried out with experimental data. It is shown that the proposed mathematical model and its numerical algorithm adequately describe the drying process of raw cotton.
