This paper is concerned with a set of independent jobs in a permutation flow shop that have setup times on a set of machines. The M-IAIS algorithm, which is based on immunoglobulins and has been modified, is designed to reduce the makespan. A unique procedure known as B cell repertoire updating, which comprises size C of jobs that are taken out of the sequence and reinserted into all possible positions of the remaining sequences of jobs, has an impact on the M-IAIS algorithm's performance. To increase the convergence velocity, three iterations of the algorithm are suggested. Thorough testing was done, and the three versions' performances on a set (benchmark) are compared. Problem instances are described in Sistemas de Optimizacion Aplicada (http://***/problem-instances) In the paper, percentage deviation is considered to evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithms. Furthermore, the ensuing outcomes demonstrate its suitability for addressing for the Permutation Flow Shop Scheduling Problem with Sequence Dependent Setup Times.

In addressing control problems such as regulation and tracking through reinforcement learning, it is often required to guarantee that the acquired policy meets essential performance and stability criteria such as a desired settling time and steady-state error prior to deployment. Motivated by this necessity, we present a set of results and a systematic reward shaping procedure that (i) ensures the optimal policy generates trajectories that align with specified control requirements and (ii) allows to assess whether any given policy satisfies them. We validate our approach through comprehensive numerical experiments conducted in two representative environments from OpenAI Gym: the Inverted Pendulum swing-up problem and the Lunar Lander. Utilizing both tabular and deep reinforcement learning methods, our experiments consistently affirm the efficacy of our proposed framework, highlighting its effectiveness in ensuring policy adherence to the prescribed control requirements. © 2023, CC BY-NC-SA.

The intuitionistic fuzzy set (IFS) and bipolar fuzzy set (BFS) are all effective models to describe ambiguous and incomplete cognitive knowledge with membership, non-membership, negative membership, and hesitancy sections. But in daily life problems, there are some situations where we cannot apply the ordinary models of IFS and BFS, separately. Hence, there is a need to combine both the models of IFS and BFS into a single one. A tripolar fuzzy set (TFS) is a generalization of IFS and BFS. In circumstances where BFS and IFS models cannot be used individually, a tripolar fuzzy model is more dependable and efficient. Further, the IFS and BFS models are reduced to corollaries due to the proposed model of TFS. For this purpose in this article, we first consider some novel operations on tripolar fuzzy information. These operations are formulated on the basis of well-known Dombi T-norm and T-conorm, and the desirable properties are discussed. By applying the Dombi operations, arithmetic and geometric aggregation operators of TFS are proposed, and we introduce the concepts of a TF-Dombi weighted average (TFDWA) operator, a TF-Dombi ordered weighted average (TFDOWA) operator, and a TF-Dombi hybrid weighted (TFDHW) operator and explore their fundamental features including idempotency, boundedness, monotonicity, and others. In the second part, we propose TF-Dombi weighted geometric (TFDWG) operator, TF-Dombi ordered weighted geometric (TFDOWG) operator, and TF-Dombi hybrid geometric (TFDHG) operator. The features and specific cases of the mentioned operators are examined. Enterprise resource planning (ERP) is a management and integration approach that organizations employ to manage and develop many aspects of their operations. The study's primary contribution is to employ TFS to create certain decision-making strategies for the selection of optimal ERP systems. Molecular dynamics(MD)is an indispensable atomistic-scale computational tool widely-used in various *** the past decades,nearly all ab initio MD and machine-learning MD have been based on the general-purpose central/graphics processing units(CPU/GPU),which are well-known to suffer from their intrinsic“memory wall”and“power wall”***,nowadays MD calculations with ab initio accuracy are extremely time-consuming and power-consuming,imposing serious restrictions on the MD simulation size and *** solve this problem,here we propose a special-purpose MD processing unit(MDPU),which could reduce MD time and power consumption by about 103 times(109 times)compared to state-of-the-art machine-learningMD(ab initio MD)based on CPU/GPU,while keeping ab initio *** significantly-enhanced performance,the proposed MDPU may pave a way for the accurate atomistic-scale analysis of large-size and/or longduration problems which were impossible/impractical to compute before.

Prior work has demonstrated a consistent tendency in neural networks engaged in continual learning tasks, wherein intermediate task similarity results in the highest levels of catastrophic interference. This phenomenon is attributed to the network’s tendency to reuse learned features across tasks. However, this explanation heavily relies on the premise that neuron specialisation occurs, i.e. the emergence of localised representations. Our investigation challenges the validity of this assumption. Using theoretical frameworks for the analysis of neural networks, we show a strong dependence of specialisation on the initial condition. More precisely, we show that weight imbalance and high weight entropy can favour specialised solutions. We then apply these insights in the context of continual learning, first showing the emergence of a monotonic relation between task-similarity and forgetting in non-specialised networks. Finally, we show that specialization by weight imbalance is beneficial on the commonly employed elastic weight consolidation regularisation technique. Copyright © 2025, The Authors. Theory of phase reduction for systems with higher-order interactions: a route to Kuramoto models on hypergraphs

Phase reduction is a powerful technique in the study of nonlinear oscillatory systems. Under certain assumptions, it allows us to describe each multidimensional oscillator by a single phase variable, giving rise to simple phase models such as the Kuramoto model. Classically, the method has been applied in the case where the interactions are only pairwise (two-body). However, increasing evidence shows that interactions in real-world systems are not pairwise but higher-order, i.e., many-body. Although synchronization in higher-order systems has received much attention, analytical results are scarce because of the highly nonlinear nature of the framework. In this paper, we fill the gap by presenting a general theory of phase reduction for the case of higher-order interactions. We show that the higher-order topology is preserved in the phase reduced model at the first order and that only odd couplings have an effect on the dynamics when certain symmetries are present. Additionally, we show the power and ductility of the phase reduction approach by applying it to a population of Stuart-Landau oscillators with an all-to-all configuration and with a ring-like hypergraph topology;in both cases, only the analysis of the phase model can provide insights and analytical results. © 2025, CC BY-NC-ND.

The availability of an effective vaccine is a major challenge in COVID-19 vaccination campaigns. In this article, we propose a comprehensive strategy incorporating distributed controls via vaccination and treatment while considering the limitations of available resources expressed as inequalities constrained. Our approach utilizes a spatiotemporal model that includes multiple strains of the virus and considers spatial heterogeneity, providing a more accurate representation of disease transmission. By using a generalized two-strain ODE model, we effectively capture the evolution of COVID-19, including various strains and variants. To validate our model, we establish the positivity and boundedness of the system's solution. Through the exploration of vaccination and treatment controls. Our study aims to reduce the spread of the disease between strains and identify optimal values that minimize the number of infected individuals and associated costs. This work provides useful insights into effective strategies for controlling the COVID-19 epidemic, even with limited vaccination resources. Furthermore, we demonstrate the existence of controls and describe their characterizations in terms of state and adjoint functions. The penalty method is used to treat the inequalities constrained. More importantly, our numerical simulation shows that adequate vaccination resources and simultaneous treatment can effectively reduce and even eliminate the spread of COVID-19. © 2024 The Author(s)

The principal objective of this article is to examine, compare, and develop a time series model for forecasting the growth of the life insurance business in Thailand. The proposed forecasting models include the Seasonal Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average Exogenous (SARIMAX) model, the Multilayer Perceptron (MLP) model, and a combined model that integrates SARIMAX and MLP models. The dataset, spanning from January 2003 to December 2022 and comprising 240 rows, is sourced from the Office of the Insurance Commission (OIC) website, the Office of the Economic Development Council, and the National Society website, providing gross domestic product (GDP) data. This dataset is partitioned into two subsets: the first subset encompasses the years from January 2003 to December 2021, utilized for constructing predictive models, while the second subset consists of data from January 2022 to December 2022, employed for comparing the accuracy of various forecasting methods. Evaluation criteria such as the Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE), Root Mean Square Error (RMSE), and the R-squared are used for assessment. Our analysis, conducted through Python in Google Colab, demonstrates that the Multilayer Perceptron (MLP) model consistently outperforms both the SARIMAX and MLP-SARIMAX models.

A computational framework is presented to numerically simulate the effects of antihypertensive drugs, in particular calcium channel blockers, on the mechanical response of arterial walls. A stretch-dependent smooth muscle model by Uhlmann and Balzani is modified to describe the interaction of pharmacological drugs and the inhibition of smooth muscle activation. The coupled deformation-diffusion problem is then solved using the finite element software FEDDLib and overlapping Schwarz preconditioners from the Trilinos package FROSch. These preconditioners include highly scalable parallel GDSW (generalized Dryja–Smith–Widlund) and RGDSW (reduced GDSW) preconditioners. Simulation results show the expected increase in the lumen diameter of an idealized artery due to the drug-induced reduction of smooth muscle contraction, as well as a decrease in the rate of arterial contraction in the presence of calcium channel blockers.
