In this research, the (psi,phi)-expansion scheme has been implemented for the exact solutions of the fractional Clannish Random Walker's parabolic (FCRWP) equation and the nonlinear fractional Cahn-Allen (NFCA) equation. Some new solutions of the FCRWP equation and the NFCA equation have been obtained by using this method. The diverse variety of exact outcomes such as intersection between rough wave and kinky soliton wave profiles, intersection between lump wave and kinky soliton wave profiles, soliton wave profiles, kink wave profiles, intersection between lump wave and periodic wave profiles, intersection between rough wave and periodic wave profiles, periodic wave profiles, and kink wave profiles are taken. Comparing our developed answers and that got in previously written research papers presents the novelty of our investigation. The above techniques could also be employed to get exact solutions for other fractional nonlinear models in physics, applied mathematics, and engineering.

3D morphology formation in a mixture of three differently averse components

Film formation from solvent evaporation in polymer ternary solutions is relevant for several technological applications, such as the fabrication of organic solar cells. The performance of the final device will strongly depend on the internal morphology of the obtained film, which, in turn, is affected by the processing conditions. We are interested in modeling morphology formation in 3D for ternary mixtures using both a lattice model and its continuous counterpart in the absence of evaporation. In our previous works, we found that, in 2D, both models predict the existence of two distinct regimes: (i) a low-solvent regime, characterized by two interpenetrated domains of the two polymers, and (ii) a high-solvent regime, where isolated polymer domains are dispersed in the solvent background. In the significantly more intriguing 3D case, we observe a comparable scenario both for the discrete and the continuous model. The lattice model reveals its ability to describe morphology formation even in the high solvent content 3D case, in which the three-dimensional nature of space could have prevented cluster formation. © 2025, CC0.

In this study, we investigate the mechanical properties of gold (Au) materials using molecular dynamics simulations. In this simulation, the nanoindentation process was performed to analyze the deformation defects and hardness properties of Au under different indentation velocities. The results suggest that the deformation behavior of the Au specimen was affected by different indentation velocities. These findings were confirmed by examining the load-displacement curve, which indicated elastic deformation through the appearance of a linear load-displacement relationship at low indentation velocities. In contrast, plastic deformation was identified by the presence of intensified serrations in the load-displacement curve at higher indentation velocities. Under such conditions, the hardness exhibited minimal variation when the indenter velocity increased from 5 mls to 10 mls. However, a significant increase in hardness was noted when the indentation velocity was further raised to 15 mls. © 2024 IEEE.

A blockchain-enabled IoT auditing management system complying with ISO/IEC 15408-2

Recently, blockchain has attracted attention as one of the most promising key platform technologies for leveraging IoT (Internet of Things) security and auditing management with trusted and decentralized architecture. Therefore, the possibilities of using blockchain for providing scalable management, efficient access, and accountability for the massive numbers of extant and emerging IoT devices merits investigation. In this study, we implement a blockchain-enabled IoT auditing management system complying with ISO/IEC 15408-2 requirements. The implemented system is operated with a stable data retrieval time, i.e. 25.74 to 26.77 microseconds, and a stable compressing and uploading time, i.e. 32.51 and 39.9 microseconds when handling and accessing below 100 logs. With more logs, the processing time raises in a proportional manner. The introduced auditing system represents an evolutionary paradigm not only possessing the advantageous characteristics of blockchain technology, i.e. de-centralization, robustness and tamper-resistance, but also fulfilling the critical requirements from ISO/IEC 15408-2 with respect to auditing perspective. Moreover, the scalability is guaranteed, as our proposed IoT auditing management system is suitable for versatile IoT-oriented application services (even on heterogeneous platforms). © 2023 Elsevier Ltd

This article aims to compare forecasting techniques with machine learning techniques for predicting the number of people injured in road accidents using data from the Injury Information Collaboration Center, Department of Disease Control, Ministry of Public Health Outpatient Files (OPD) spanning the years 2018 to 2022. The four machine-learning techniques examined in this study include Decision Tree Regression, Random Forest Regression, Support Vector Regression, and Multiple Linear Regression. The data analysis was performed using the R programming language. The results revealed that the Decision Tree Regression technique yielded the most accurate predictions for the number of road traffic injuries, as evidenced by its lowest values of MAE, MSE, and RMSE.

Facial images play a significant role in expression prediction. The 3D features of facial expression provides significant information. In the area of facial emotion recognition, the 3D geometry and 2D texture helps to improve the recognition rate. A lot of research works had achieved state-of-the-art results using handcrafted and deep convolutional neural networks containing many trainable parameters which require high computing power. In this paper, we employ two kinds of convolutions i.e., regular or normal convolution on the 2D texture image and separable convolution on the 3D depth map images. We run experiments with our proposed network on the BU-3DFER database. The proposed model was trained from scratch to adjust the weights and biases of the learnable layers on various image features and achieved state-of-the-art accuracy of 81.81% on the 2D texture image, 79.10% recognition accuracy on the 3D depth map, and 83.01% for combined 2D and 3D features. © 2022 ACM.

On the Impact of Building Façade on the Noise Propagation from Road Traffic and Rooftop Building Services

Noise pollution in cities impacts inhabitants' well-being and health, so reducing their noise exposure is a matter of public health. At the design stage, architects and engineers need environmental acoustics simulation tools that can accurately predict the noise exposure resulting from a building façade design. This study numerically assesses the acoustic impact of different building façade design strategies for two low-frequency sound source locations: one corresponding to road traffic noise and another to noise emitted by building services equipment, mounted on a rooftop. The outdoor sound propagation from a noise source in a 3D slice of a street is simulated using the nodal discontinuous Galerkin finite element method that captures wave phenomena at low frequencies more accurately than geometrical acoustics methods. Reflections from an opposite building in a narrow street canyon increase the noise level by up to 12 dB for a rooftop source. Balconies have a screening or intensifying effect on the noise by -3.5 dB to 6.3 dB, depending on the location of the source. Balconies can amplify the noise level at low frequencies due to resonances specific to the balcony dimensions. The orientation of the balcony elements and the building façade redirect the sound. The effect is minor for balconies, maximum ± 1 dB. The façade tilting has significant impacts regardless of the receivers for rooftop sources, -8.4 dB to 4.6 dB, but mixed effect for road traffic *** numerical results were validated experimentally with a 1:10 scale model. © 2024, The Authors. The impact of transient needle moving on the flow characteristics within a solenoid injector using the neat PODE (polyoxymethylene dimethyl ether) was investigated in this work. An explicit density-based solver suitable for multiphase flows was implemented into OpenFOAM® to solve the compressible Navier-Stokes equations of the Arbitrary Lagrangian–Eulerian (ALE) formulation, while the turbulence is resolved using a RNG k-Ε model with the Reboud correction. Phase change between the liquid and vapor phases was predicted by the variation in the density utilizing the homogeneous mixture model. A barotropic equation of state (EoS), i.e. the density as a function of pressure, where thermal effects and saturation properties are simplified at a constant temperature, is adopted to resolve the thermodynamic model. Numerical simulation was carried out on a double-layer multi-hole diesel injector during ballistic condition. The results show that cavitation formed on the upper side of both orifices, which is attributed to the flow acceleration in the narrow needle seat area, changing the flow direction significantly before passing through the two orifices heading to different orientations. © 2021 ICLASS 2021 - 15th Triennial International Conference on Liquid Atomization and Spray Systems. We study P (n, 3), the size of the largest subset of the set of all permutations Sn with minimum Kendall τ -distance 3. Using a combination of group theory and integer programming, we reduced the upper bound of P (p, 3) from (p − 1)! − 1 to (p − 1)! − ⌈ p3 ⌉ + 2 ≤ (p − 1)! − 2 for all primes p ≥ 11. In special cases where n is equal to 6, 7, 11, 13, 14, 15 and 17 we reduced the upper bound of P (n, 3) by 3, 3, 9, 11, 1, 1 and 4, respectively. © 2022, CC BY.

Byzantine-Resilient Decentralized Multi-Armed Bandits

In decentralized cooperative multi-armed bandits (MAB), each agent observes a distinct stream of rewards, and seeks to exchange information with others to select a sequence of arms so as to minimize its regret. Agents in the cooperative setting can outperform a single agent running a MAB method such as Upper-Confidence Bound (UCB) independently. In this work, we study how to recover such salient behavior when an unknown fraction of the agents can be Byzantine, that is, communicate arbitrarily wrong information in the form of reward mean-estimates or confidence sets. This framework can be used to model attackers in computer networks, instigators of offensive content into recommender systems, or manipulators of financial markets. Our key contribution is the development of a fully decentralized resilient upper confidence bound (UCB) algorithm that fuses an information mixing step among agents with a truncation of inconsistent and extreme values. This truncation step enables us to establish that the performance of each normal agent is no worse than the classic single-agent UCB1 algorithm in terms of regret, and more importantly, the cumulative regret of all normal agents is strictly better than the non-cooperative case, provided that each agent has at least 3f + 1 neighbors where f is the maximum possible Byzantine agents in each agent’s neighborhood. Extensions to time-varying neighbor graphs, and minimax lower bounds are further established on the achievable regret. Experiments corroborate the merits of this framework in practice.
