Minimizing the age of information (AoI) has recently become a key objective in internet-of-things technology. However, research on prioritized sources with distinct AoI constraints remains limited, despite its significant relevance in real-world applications. In addition, the existing service disciplines —preemption (PR) and non-preemption (NP)— result in a biased satisfaction across priority classes. Therefore, this work proposes a hybrid PR/NP service discipline based on the elapsed service time for a multi-class status update system, considering Poisson arrival process and Erlang service time distribution. Class-specific thresholds on the elapsed service time are set to limit further service preemptions. By applying the stochastic hybrid system approach, we analyze the AoI moments for arbitrary number of classes and derive key insights that underscore the benefits of our model over classical ones. Numerical evaluations of average AoI and AoI dispersion demonstrate that adjusting threshold parameters can achieve a more balanced performance across classes. Additionally, we explore threshold optimization to either enhance the performance of the most AoI-sensitive class or maximize overall network satisfaction while meeting quality-of-service constraints. For the latter, a near-optimal approach is proposed to reduce the computational complexity of determining the optimal solution as the number of priority classes increases. © 2020 IEEE.

Based on the unified Hauser–Feshbach and exciton model,which can describe the particle emission processes between discrete energy levels with energy,angular momentum,and parity conservations,a statistical theory of light nucleus reaction(STLN)is developed to calculate the double-differential cross-sections of the outgoing neutron and light charged particles for the proton-induced^(6) Li reaction.A significant difference is observed between the p+^(6) Li and p+^(7) Li reactions owing to the discrepancies in the energy-level structures of the *** reaction channels,including sequential and simultaneous emission processes,are analyzed in *** the double-differential cross-sections of the outgoing proton as an example,the influence of contaminations(such as^(1) H,^(7)Li,^(12)C,and^(16)O)on the target is identified in terms of the kinetic energy of the first emitted *** optical potential parameters of the proton are obtained by fitting the elastic scattering differential *** calculated total double-differential cross-sections of the outgoing proton and deuteron at E_(p)=14 MeV agree well with the experimental data for different outgoing ***,the mixed double differential cross-sections of^(3) He andαare in good agreement with the *** agreement between the measured data and calculated results indicates that the two-body and three-body breakup reactions need to be considered,and the pre-equilibrium reaction mechanism dominates the reaction *** on the STLN model,a PLUNF code for the p+^(6) Li reaction is developed to obtain an ENDF-6-formatted file of the double-differential cross-sections of the nucleon and light composite charged particles.

The present research bridges the gap between a numerical solution with efficient machine-learning-based algorithms to provide a strong platform for predicting thermomechanical shock behavior of the sandwich cylindrical panels with polymer-made core and circumferentially-graded graphene-plates reinforced (CG-GPLR) nanocomposite face-sheets. The comprehensive declaration of the elasticity theory is considered to establish the governing equations of the system in three orthogonal directions. The well-known Lord-Shulman heat transfer theorem is implemented to present the time-variant nature of the system’s heat. The differential quadrature method (DQM) is used as a numerical approach to solve the spatial dependency of the governing differential equations. While the Laplace transform solves the time dependency of the governing differential equations. In order to decline the computational cost of predicting the time-variant analysis of the thermomechanical shock response of the system, an efficient machine-learning-based algorithm is employed in a way that it only requires the thermomechanical shock information of the selective set of points known as the training set. After completion of the training procedure, this machine-learning predictor can easily predict the thermoelastic response of all points included either as the train set or a new point. Validation of the applied solution is performed through a comparative process between the present results with those determined in the published literature. The results of this study are in excellent compatibility with those obtained in a solo numerical solution.

In many optical experiments, a long measurement time is necessary to collect enough information and improve the signal-to-noise ratio. This happens, for example, in total luminescence spectroscopy (TLS) where the data is acquired as excitation-emission matrices (EEMs). An EEM is an unique chemical fingerprint of the analyzed substance that allows its comprehensive characterization. To collect a high-resolution EEM, it is necessary to scan both the excitation and the emission wavelengths in small steps and, for each step, to collect the light for a long time to maximize the signal-to-noise ratio. Therefore, acquiring a high-resolution excitation emission matrix can take more than an hour, depending on the size of the wavelength steps, the intensity of the signal, and the spectral range to be analyzed. This paper proposes a new method to reconstruct a high-resolution EEM from low-resolution one using deep learning super-resolution techniques. Specifically, this work proposes a new artificial neural network architecture, a sub-pixel convolutional neural network, designed to be applied to fluorescence EEM images. The code used is made available via a GitHub repository with instructions for applying transfer learning to different types of images. © 2023 SPIE.

Integer linear programs (ILPs) are commonly employed to model diverse practical problems such as scheduling and planning. Recently, machine learning techniques have been utilized to solve ILPs. A straightforward idea is to train a model via supervised learning, with an ILP as the input and an optimal solution as the label. An ILP is symmetric if its variables can be permuted without changing the problem structure, resulting in numerous equivalent and optimal solutions. Randomly selecting an optimal solution as the label can introduce variability in the training data, which may hinder the model from learning stable patterns. In this work, we incorporate the intrinsic symmetry of ILPs and propose a novel training framework called SymILO. Specifically, we modify the learning task by introducing solution permutation along with neural network weights as learnable parameters and then design an alternating algorithm to jointly optimize the loss function. We conduct extensive experiments on ILPs involving different symmetries and the computational results demonstrate that our symmetry-aware approach significantly outperforms three existing methods-achieving 50.3%, 66.5%, and 45.4% average improvements, respectively. © 2024 Neural information processing systems foundation. We study the minimizers of a degenerate case of the Ohta–Kawasaki energy, defined as the sum of the perimeter and a Coulombic nonlocal term. We start by investigating radially symmetric candidates which give us insights into the asymptotic behaviors of energy minimizers in the large mass limit. In order to numerically study the problems that are analytically challenging, we propose a phase-field reformulation which is shown to Gamma-converge to the original sharp interface model. Variational inference is a fast and scalable alternative to Markov chain Monte Carlo and has been widely applied to posterior inference tasks in statistics and machine learning. A traditional approach for implementing mean-field variational inference (MFVI) is coordinate ascent variational inference (CAVI), which relies crucially on parametric assumptions on complete conditionals. In this paper, we introduce a novel particle-based algorithm for mean-field variational inference, which we term PArticle VI (PAVI). Notably, our algorithm does not rely on parametric assumptions on complete conditionals, and it applies to the nonparametric setting. We provide non-asymptotic finite-particle convergence guarantee for our algorithm. To our knowledge, this is the first end-to-end guarantee for particle-based MFVI. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. In this work, we develop a class of high-order multiderivative time integration methods that is able to preserve certain functionals discretely. Important ingredients are the recently developed Hermite-Birkhoff-Predictor-Corrector (HBPC) methods and the technique of relaxation for numerical methods of ordinary differential equations (ODEs). We explain the algorithm in detail and show numerical results for two-and three-derivative methods, comparing relaxed and unrelaxed methods. The numerical results demonstrate that, at the slight cost of the relaxation, an improved scheme is obtained. © 2023 Wiley-VCH GmbH.

Cosmological test of dark energy parametrizations within the framework of Horava-Lifshitz gravity via baryon acoustic oscillation

We conduct an investigation to explore late-time cosmic acceleration through various dark energy parametrizations(Wettrich,Efstathiou,and Ma-Zhang)within the Horava-Lifshitz gravity *** an alternative to general relativity,this theory introduces anisotropic scaling at ultraviolet *** primary objective is to constrain the key cosmic parameters and baryon acoustic oscillation(BAO)scale,specifically the sound horizon(rd),by utilizing 24 uncorrelated measurements of BAOs derived from recent galaxy surveys spanning a redshift range from z=0.106 to z=***,we integrate the most recent Hubble constant measurement by Riess in 2022(denoted as R22)as an extra *** the parametrizations of Wettrich,Efstathiou,and Ma-Zhang,our analysis of BAO data yields sound horizon results of r_(d)=148.1560±2.7688 Mpc,r_(d)=148.6168±10.2469 Mpc,and r_(d)=147.9737±10.6096 Mpc,*** the R22 prior into the BAO dataset results in r_(d)=139.5806±3.8522 Mpc,r_(d)=139.728025±2.7858 Mpc,and r_(d)=139.6001±2.7441 *** outcomes highlight a distinct inconsistency between early and late observational measurements,analogous to the H_(0) tension.A notable observation is that,when we do not include the R22 prior,the outcomes for rd tend to be in agreement with Planck and SDSS *** this,we conducted a cosmography test and comparative study of each parametrization within the Lambda Cold Dark Matter *** diagnostic analyses demonstrate that all models fit seamlessly within the phantom *** dark energy parametrizations predict an equation of state parameter close ω=-1,indicating a behavior similar to that of a cosmological *** statistical analysis indicates that neither of the two models can be ruled out based on the latest observational measurements.
