Since the introduction of the erbium doped fiber amplifiers(EdFA), there has been a revolutionary improvement on the performance of 1.55- μm optical communication systems[l]. There also exist similar needs for the 1.3 1 μm-wavelength band, the operating wavelength for the bulk of installed fiber-optic cables. However, no conspicuous performance comparable to EdFA has been achieveddespite the intensive research efforts on the Pr-doped fluoride glass fibers[2,3]. Two major obstacles are the low quantum efficiency and short excited-state lifetime of Pr3+ because of the high multiphonon relaxation rates inherent in fluoride glasses. Sulfide glasses with reduced phonon energies appear to provide some improvements [4].

The oxidation characteristics, composition profile and phase transition of Ti3SiC2 in the temperature range 20-1400°C have been investigated by in-situ neutron diffraction and secondary ion mass spectroscopy (SIMS). Anatase has been observed to form at ∼600°C, rutile at ∼750°C and cristobalite at ∼1300°C. depth-profiling results by SIMS and Vickers indentation have revealed a distinct gradient in composition and microhardness within the surface oxide layers.

This paper proposed a novel analog-based critical conduction mode (CrM) control method for the three-phase three-level Vienna rectifier. By the proposed method, the simple analog CrM control can be achieved in each phase of the Vienna rectifier. All the control schemes are implemented with three low-cost analog CrM PFC IC controllers. Experimental results demonstrate that zero-voltage-switching (ZVS) and valley-switching (VS) are indeed achieved, and a high power factor of 0.994 is tested at a 3.2 kW three-phase Vienna rectifier.

This paper presents a development of an anthropomorphic robot hand, 'KITECH Hand' that has 4 full-actuated fingers. Most robot hands have small size simultaneously many joints as compared with robot manipulators. Components of actuator, gear, and sensors used for building robots are not small and are expensive, and those make it difficult to build a small sizedrobot hand. differently from conventional development of robot hands, KITECH hand adopts a rC servo module that is cheap, easily obtainable, and easy to handle. The rC servo module that have been already used for several small sized humanoid can be new solution of building small sizedrobot hand with many joints. The feasibility of KITECH hand in object manipulation is shown through various experimental results. It is verified that the modifiedrC servo module is one of effective solutions in the development of a robot hand.
