A search for the production of three massive vector bosons, VVZ(V=W,Z), in proton–proton collisions at s=13 TeV is performed using data with an integrated luminosity of 140 fb−1 recorded by the ATLAS detector at the ...

A search for the production of three massive vector bosons, VVZ(V=W,Z), in proton–proton collisions at s=13 TeV is performed using data with an integrated luminosity of 140 fb⁻¹ recorded by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. Events produced in the leptonic final states WWZ→ℓνℓνℓℓ (ℓ=e,μ), WZZ→ℓνℓℓℓℓ, ZZZ→ℓℓℓℓℓℓ, and the semileptonic final states WWZ→qqℓνℓℓ and WZZ→ℓνqqℓℓ, are analysed. The measured cross section for the pp→VVZ process is 660₋₉₀⁺⁹³(stat.)₋₈₁⁺⁸⁸(syst.) fb, and the observed (expected) significance is 6.4 (4.7) standard deviations, representing the observation of VVZ production. In addition, the measured cross section for the pp→WWZ process is 442±94(stat.)₋₅₂⁺⁶⁰(syst.) fb, and the observed (expected) significance is 4.4 (3.6) standard deviations, representing evidence of WWZ production. The measured cross sections are consistent with the Standard Model predictions. Constraints on physics beyond the Standard Model are also derived in the effective field theory framework by setting limits on Wilson coefficients for dimension-8 operators describing anomalous quartic gauge boson couplings. © 2025 CERN for the benefit of the ATLAS Collaboration

The aim of the present study is to evaluate the viability of glycerol as carbon source on immobilized algae cultures coupled with a modification on nitrogen (NO3-) and phosphate (PO4) concentration for the production of high valuable compounds (carbohydrates, proteins and lipids). it was determined that the conditions who favour the deposition of carbohydrates are 3-5% (v/v) of glycerol and 0.37 (g/L) of NaNO3. On The other hand, for obtain higher amounts of lipids, a 3% (v/v) of glycerol coupled with a limitation in the nitrogen source (0.04 g/L) are needed. Finally, in order to improve deposition of total proteins, larger concentrations of glycerol (5% v/v), NaNO3 (>0.37 g/L) and phosphate are needed. Copyright © 2016, AIDIC Servizi S.r.l.

Visual Representations of the Water Cycle in Science Textbooks

She has taught at both the primary and secondary school levels in Mumbai and Bangalore. Her research interests are environmental and science education and gender studies. She has participated in research projects that analysed textbooks for content enrichment pertaining to the environment. At the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE) Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) Mumbai she studied aspects of gender represented in school textbooks and prepared resource material for teachers at the primary level. E-mail: J. Ramadas is Professor of science education and Centre Director of the HBCSE TIFR Mumbai India. She received an M.Sc. in physics from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur in 1976 and a Ph.D. in science education from the HBCSE in 1981. Professor Ramadas is interested in cognitive studies of science learning and school science curricula. She led the development of the Homi Bhabha Curriculum for Primary Science titled ‘Small Science’ published in four languages for which she was awarded the Third World Academy of Sciences Regional Prize in 2011. Professor Ramadas served on the National Curriculum Framework 2005 Science Focus Group. She is a member of the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics (IUPAP) International Commission on Physics Education. Visual representations, including photographs, sketches and schematic diagrams, are a valuable yet often neglected aspect of textbooks. Visual means of communication are particularly helpful in introducing abstract concepts in science. For effective communication, visuals and text need to be appropriately integrated within the *** study is based on an analysis of the science textbooks of the National Council of Educational research and Training (NCERT) and the Maharashtra State Board (MSB) for Classes 3–10. We first assess these textbooks for the use of visual representations generally. Then we focus on the water cycle, looking at how this topic is treated in the school science curriculum, at the types of visual representations used, and how effectively text and visuals are integrated to teach the water cycle over the course of the school years. We conclude with some observations on the visual treatment of the water cycle in two exemplar textbooks, and examine the implications for the use of visualisation to understand the concept of the water cycle.

This paper includes two main parts. In the first part, we present generalized gauge models based on the SU(3)C⊗SU(4)L⊗U(1)X (3-4-1) gauge group with arbitrary electric charges of exotic leptons. The mixing matrix of neutral gauge bosons is analyzed, and the eigenmasses and eigenstates are obtained. The anomaly-free as well as matching conditions are discussed precisely. In the second part, we present a new development of the original 3-4-1 model [R. Foot, H. N. Long, and T. A. Tran, Phys. Rev. D 50, R34 (1994), F. Pisano and V. Pleitez, Phys. Rev. D 51, 3865 (1995).]. Different from previous works, in this paper the neutrinos, with the help of the scalar decuplet H, get the Dirac masses at the tree level. The vacuum expectation value (VEV) of the Higgs boson field in the decuplet H acquiring the VEV responsible for neutrino Dirac mass leads to mixing in separated pairs of singly charged gauge bosons, namely the Standard Model (SM) W boson and K, the new gauge boson acting in the right-handed lepton sector, as well as the singly charged bileptons X and Y. Due to the mixing, there occurs a right-handed current carried by the W boson. From the expression of the electromagnetic coupling constant, ones get the limit of the sine-squared of the Weinberg angle, sin2θW<0.25, and a constraint on electric charges of extra leptons. In the limit of lepton number conservation, the Higgs sector contains all massless Goldstone bosons for massive gauge bosons and the SM-like Higgs boson. Some phenomenology is discussed.

This Letter describes the observation of the light-by-light scattering process, γγ→γγ, in Pb+Pb collisions at sNN=5.02 TeV. The analysis is conducted using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.73 nb−1, collected in November 2018 by the ATLAS experiment at the LHC. Light-by-light scattering candidates are selected in events with two photons produced exclusively, each with transverse energy ETγ>3 GeV and pseudorapidity |ηγ|<2.4, diphoton invariant mass above 6 GeV, and small diphoton transverse momentum and acoplanarity. After applying all selection criteria, 59 candidate events are observed for a background expectation of 12±3 events. The observed excess of events over the expected background has a significance of 8.2 standard deviations. The measured fiducial cross section is 78±13(stat)±7(syst)±3(lumi) nb.

Dark matter particles, if sufficiently light, may be produced in decays of the Higgs boson. This Letter presents a statistical combination of searches for H→invisible decays where H is produced according to the standard model via vector boson fusion, Z(ℓℓ)H, and W/Z(had)H, all performed with the ATLAS detector using 36.1 fb−1 of pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy of s=13 TeV at the LHC. In combination with the results at s=7 and 8 TeV, an exclusion limit on the H→invisible branching ratio of 0.26(0.17−0.05+0.07) at 95% confidence level is observed (expected).
