An automated seamless mosaicing system of multi-charge coupled devices of panchromatic data

Panchromatic data of pixel resolution 5.8 m obtained from IRS-IC and IRS-ID satellites proved to be very useful for mapping purposes. One of the popular data product is the 70 km swath mosaic which is covered by a combination of 3 CCD line sensors, each with 4096 pixels. Each CCD-line sensor with different imaging times causes geometric problems of mosaicing three strips data together. In this paper, we propose the details of the design elements of system that caters to the need for accurate and automatic multi strip image registration without any second resampling of the data. The systematic geometric correction grid mapping is improved to facilitate accurate mosaicing by automatic image registration task that makes use of the overlap data within image strips and image registration is achieved up to sub-pixel level.

software is typically improved and modified in small increments. These changes are usually stored in a configuration management or version control system and can be retrieved. We retrieved each individual modification made to a mature software project and proceeded to analyze them. We studied the characteristics of these modification requests (MRs), the interrelationships of the files that compose them, and their authors. We propose several metrics to quantify MRs, and use these metrics to create visualization graphs that can be used to understand the interrelationships.

Many developers who could benefit from building and analysing formal models of their systems are deterred from doing so by the process algebra style input languages of formal modelling languages which they find difficult to read and understand. This barrier to the adoption of formal modelling techniques can be significantly reduced if the process algebra is replaced with a graphical notation supported by a model generation tool. However, whilst having a diagrammatic base for the language appeals to the novice modeller, the diagrams can become cluttered for larger models. In this paper we address the issues of how to add hierarchical features to a graphical language without losing the fundamental benefits and appeal of having the graphical interface to the language. We illustrate these ideas using an existing formal modelling language

This third workshop in the SCESM (SCEnarios and State Machines) series is motivated by the very successful preceding workshops on this topic. This effort started with a workshop on scenario-based round-trip engineering at OOPSLA 2000. Two SCESM workshops at ICSE 2002 [1] and ICSE 2003 [2], and a Dagstuhl Seminar in September 2003 [3] followed. SCESM’04 continues this tradition by bringing together researchers and practitioners interested in advancing models, algorithms and tools for scenario- and state-oriented approaches to software and systems engineering.

Over the last four years, a community of researchers working on Grid and High Performance Computing technologies started discussing the barriers and opportunities that grid technologies must face and exploit for the development of health-related applications. This interest lead to the first Healthgrid conference, held in Lyon, France, on January 16th–17th, 2003, with the focus of creating increased awareness about the possibilities and advantages linked to the deployment of grid technologies in health, ultimately targeting the creation of a European/international grid infrastructure for health. The topics of this conference converged with the position of the eHealth division of the European Commission, whose mandate from the Lisbon Meeting was "To develop an intelligent environment that enables ubiquitous management of citizens’ health status, and to assist health professionals in coping with some major challenges, risk management and the integration into clinical practice of advances in health knowledge." In this context "Health" involves not only clinical procedures but covers the whole range of information from molecular level (genetic and proteomic information) over cells and tissues, to the individual and finally the population level (social healthcare). Grid technology offers the opportunity to create a common working backbone for all different members of this large "health family" and will hopefully lead to an increased awareness and interoperability among disciplines. The first HealthGrid conference led to the creation of the Healthgrid association, a non-profit research association legally incorporated in France but formed from the broad community of European researchers and institutions sharing expertise in health grids. After the second Healthgrid conference, held in Clermont-Ferrand on January 29th–30th, 2004, the need for a "white paper" on the current status and prospective of health grids was raised. Today's manufacturing industry demands flexible and decentralized production control systems to avoid hours of down time of the production line in case of a failure of a single central production control computer or program. Additionally, today's market forces demand smaller lot sizes and a more flexible mixture of different products manufactured in parallel on one production line. These requirements increase the complexity of the control software. Consequently, sophisticated techniques for the development of such production systems are needed. In this paper we present an overview of our seamless methodology for integrated design, analysis, and validation for such production control systems. We illustrate our approach by an existing material flow system which is a major part of a real production system. We show how our modelling approach is used for simulation facilities, code generation for programmable logic controllers, and maintenance purposes. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2004.

Hybrid models combining the analytical (rule-based) and connectionist (artificial neural network (ANN)) paradigms are called knowledge based neural networks (KBNN). The knowledge based artificial neural network (KBANN) is one such model that makes use of the domain theory represented as propositional rules and training examples. In this article, we analyze the performance of KBANN and suggest some ideas of improving its capabilities. A study on the effect of inductive bias on KBANN, use of adaptive learning algorithms instead of the standard backpropagation to improve the training times and the use of regularization methods for improving generalization performance is presented. It is shown that for better performance, the initial weight assignment to links obtained by domain theory varies with the domain and the performance of KBANN is improved by using regularization methods like the weight decay along with Rprop training algorithm instead of the standard backpropagation.

In this paper, the caching concept is applied to the calculation of channel information for equalisation in a wireless communication system. The concept has been evaluated using a real-time time-reversal space-time block coding implementation, and in particular is applied to the complex time varying channel estimates captured from this system. The evaluation was performed with channels under three distance conditions in an indoor, relatively scattering office environment at a carrier frequency of 2.45 GHz. Since the time reversal system employed two transmitters spaced 50 cm apart and a single receiver, there are two complex channels available for each capture instant. The data rate is 2 Mbits per second and operates at an oversampling ratio of 5:1. Various replacement policies are tested within the caching system for a range of cache sizes and the mean-squared error matching criteria,to produce results that explores the effectiveness of the system under the evaluation conditions. Results indicate that the method is particularly applicable if the decoding process complexity is to be minimised for reasons of average power consumption, such as those in the battery powered systems, or where non real-time decoder processing is acceptable, such as in IP transport systems.

Regression testing is an important part of software quality assurance. We work to extend regression testing to include regression benchmarking, which applies benchmarking to detect regressions in performance. Given the specific requirements of regression benchmarking, many contemporary benchmarks are not directly usable in regression benchmarking. To overcome this, we present a case for designing a generic benchmarking environment that will facilitate the use of contemporary benchmarks in regression benchmarking, analyze the requirements and propose architecture of such an environment. © 2004 Gesellschaft fur Informatik (GI). Information systems now form the backbone of nearly every government and private system - from targeting weapons to conducting financial transactions. Increasingly these systems are networked together allowing for distributed operations, sharing of databases, and redundant capability. Ensuring these networks are secure, robust, and reliable is critical for the strategic and economic well being of the Nation. The blackout of August 14, 2003 affected 8 states and fifty million people and could cost up to $5 billion. The DOE/NERC interim reports indicate the outage progressed as a chain of relatively minor events consistent with previous cascading outages caused by a domino reaction. The increasing use of embedded distributed systems to manage and control our technologically complex society makes knowing the vulnerability of such systems essential to improving their intrinsic reliability/survivability. Our discussion employs the power transmission grid.
