In this paper, dispersion decreased profiled tapered fiber is designed whose dispersion characteristics and soliton propagation is investigated numerically using Darboux transformation. Fog computing enhances traditional cloud computing by bringing resources closer to edge devices, enabling faster response times and supporting mission-critical applications. However, its distributed nature makes it vulnerable to cyber-attacks like distributed denial-of-service (DDoS), resulting in service disruption and performance degradation. To mitigate this attack, a two-stage anomaly detection system (ADS) is proposed in this paper. The first stage uses AdaBoost (AB) ensemble machine learning to classify events as obstructive or non-obstructive. Obstructive events are offloaded to the cloud where they are classified into normal or specific attack categories using Long Short-term Memory Encoder-Decoder (LSTM-ED). The results demonstrate that the AB-based model achieves exceptional performance, with nearly 100% in accuracy, precision, recall, and a minimal mean squared error (MSE) of 8.34 × 10-5. The LSTM-ED model also performs well, with accuracy and MSE at 99.50% and 0.02686, respectively. © 2024 IEEE.

In vehicular ad hoc network (VANET), which is considered as a type of mobile ad hoc network (MANET), communication occurs between neighbor vehicles and also roadside equipment and vehicles. Due to the characteristics of VANET, there are chances of a number possible attack in this network. In this paper, an anomaly detection system that uses clustering and fuzzy set theory to defend the Denial of Service (DoS) attack is presented. Thematic Domain Analysis for Ocean Modeling

Ocean science is a discipline that employs ocean models as an essential research asset. Such scientific modeling provides mathematical abstractions of real-world systems, e.g., the oceans. These models are then coded as implementations of the mathematical abstractions. The developed software systems are called models of the real-world system. To advance the state in engineering such ocean models, we intend to better understand how ocean models are developed and maintained in ocean science. In this paper, we present the results of semi-structured interviews and the Thematic Analysis (TA) of the interview results to analyze the domain of ocean modeling. Thereby, we identified developer requirements and impediments to model development and evolution, and related themes. This analysis can help to understand where methods from software engineering should be introduced and which challenges need to be addressed. We suggest that other researchers extend and repeat our TA with model developers and research software engineers working in related domains to further advance our knowledge and skills in scientific modeling. © 2022, CC BY-NC-ND.

The application of optimization methods to prediction issues is a continually exploring *** line with this,this paper investigates the connectedness between the infected cases of COVID-19 and US fear index from a forecasting *** complex characteristics of implied volatility risk index such as non-linearity structure,time-varying and nonstationarity motivate us to apply a nonlinear polynomial Hammerstein model with known structure and unknown *** use the Hybrid Particle Swarm Optimization(HPSO)tool to identify the model parameters of nonlinear polynomial Hammerstein *** indicate that,following a nonlinear polynomial behaviour cascaded to an autoregressive with exogenous input(ARX)behaviour,the fear index in US financial market is significantly affected by COVID-19-infected cases in the US,COVID-19-infected cases in the world and COVID-19-infected cases in China,*** performance indicators provided by the developed models show that COVID-19-infected cases in the US are particularly powerful in predicting the Cboe volatility index compared to COVID-19-infected cases in the world and China(MAPE(2.1013%);R2(91.78%)and RMSE(0.6363 percentage points)).The proposed approaches have also shown good convergence characteristics and accurate fits of the data.

This study explores the integration of the AI-powered adaptive learning system within the flipped classroom model and discusses programming education. The increasing demand for the acquisition of programming skills in the digital era generates the development of innovative pedagogical approaches to help students overcome the difficulties in mastering programming concepts. The study investigates how AI-based adaptive feedback influences student engagement, motivation, and learning outcomes. This study was conducted for 13 weeks, with two groups of undergraduate students. In one of the groups, tshe traditional flipped classroom model was applied, while in the other group, AI-driven adaptive learning tools were introduced. In this research methodology, a mixed-methods approach was adopted, integrating quantitative analyses with qualitative data. These showed that the experimental group demonstrated significant improvements in learning results and motivation, thereby realiszing the value of real-time, personalized feedback provided through the AI system. The qualitative findings revealed that with the AI system, there was an increase in student autonomy;thus, there is increased responsibility among students to collaborate in in-class participation, which helps enhance a more dynamic and cooperative learning environment. On the whole, these findings reveal important implications of the integration of AI into flipped classrooms, while at the same time, they reveal how to make the modernization of programming education achieve a better overall experience in student learning. © 2025 The Authors

Robustness Assessment of Hyperspectral Image Cnns Using Metamorphic Testing

Remote sensing has proven its utility in many critical domains, such as medicine, military, and ecology. Recently, we have been witnessing a surge in the adoption of deep learning (DL) techniques by the remote sensing community. DL-based classifiers, such as convolutional neural networks (CNNs), have been reported to achieve impressive predictive performances reaching 99\% of accuracy when applied to hyperspectral images (HSIs), a high-dimensional type of remote sensing data. However, these deep learners are known to be highly sensitive to even slight perturbations of their high-dimensional raw inputs. In real-world contexts, concerns can be raised about how robust they really are against corner-case scenarios. When HSI classifiers are applied in safety-critical applications, ensuring an adequate level of robustness is crucial to prevent unexpected system behaviors. Yet, there are few studies dealing with their robustness, nor are RGB-testing methods able to cover the HSI-specific challenges. This led us to propose a systematic testing method to assess the robustness of the CNNs trained to classify HSIs. First, we elaborate domain-specific metamorphic transformations that simulate naturally-occurring distortions of remote sensing HSIs. Then, we leverage metaheuristic search algorithms to optimize the fitness of synthetically-distorted inputs to stress the weaknesses of the on-testing CNN, while remaining in compliance with domain expert requirements, in order to preserve the semantic of the generated inputs. Relying on our metamorphic testing method, we assess the robustness of established and novel CNNs for HSI classification, and demonstrate their failure, on average, in 25\% of the produced test cases. Furthermore, we fine-tuned the tested CNNs on training data augmented with these failure-revealing metamorphic transformations. Guiding, manipulating, and detecting light is integral to modern photonic systems that can be designed for displays, memory, data transfer, and sensors. The prospect of realizing programmable yet zero-static power photonics has recently gained attention thanks to the rise of optical phase change materials (PCMs). PCMs have a unique set of properties that make them desirable for this task: nonvolatile retention and reversible switching between their amorphous and crystalline states, which, in addition, display distinct optical and electronic properties. Nonvolatile photonic devices have primarily relied on either electrical or optical switching of PCMs. Electrical switching offers effortless CMOS integration;however, it is predominantly limited to binary output. In contrast, optical switching enables accurate multilevel control but is limited in scalability. This paper studies an alternative electro-thermal approach to nonvolatile photonics by controlling the PCM phase via doped silicon microheaters. The results highlight the significance of precise spatial and temporal temperature control to ensure optimal modulation of the PCM. Specifically, this paper investigates the impact of the electric pulse width (0.2 μs to 10 μs) on the maximum temperature for two different microheater designs. High resolution (≈410 nm) transient thermoreflectance imaging (TTI) is used to measure and analyze the surface temperature distribution across each microheater under pulsed biasing. To assess the impact of varying pulse widths, this study systematically examines their effects on maximum temperature, response time, and maximum power. Shorter pulse widths ( 1 μs) provide greater thermal stability but exhibit reduced maximum temperatures due to limited current levels. The experimental results demonstrate a nonlinear relationship between the peak temperature and the power supplied at sub-steady state thermalization time scales. Monkeypox is predicted to be the next pandemic and is spreading over African countries like water under a mat. The study basically investigates three deep learning imaging models for the identification of monkeypox from skin lesion photos from the MSID dataset. The motto is to define a computer-based technique to identify monkeypox from just its image, making it cheaper and faster with accurate results. The study achieved the highest accuracy of 99.37% as compared to previous works related to Resnet 50. The limits and complexity of the procedures in real-world situations are also clearly addressed.

S3-Mamba: Small-Size-Sensitive Mamba for Lesion Segmentation

Small lesions play a critical role in early disease diagnosis and intervention of severe infections. Popular models often face challenges in segmenting small lesions, as it occupies only a minor portion of an image, while down sampling operations may inevitably lose focus on local features of small lesions. To tackle the challenges, we propose a Small-Size-Sensitive Mamba (S3-Mamba), which promotes the sensitivity to small lesions across three dimensions: channel, spatial, and training strategy. Specifically, an Enhanced Visual State Space block is designed to focus on small lesions through multiple residual connections to preserve local features, and selectively amplify important details while suppressing irrelevant ones through channel-wise attention. A Tensor-based Cross-feature Multi-scale Attention is designed to integrate input image features and intermediate-layer features with edge features and exploit the attentive support of features across multiple scales, thereby retaining spatial details of small lesions at various granularities. Finally, we introduce a novel regularized curriculum learning to automatically assess lesion size and sample difficulty, and gradually focus from easy samples to hard ones like small lesions. Extensive experiments on three medical image segmentation datasets show the superiority of our S3-Mamba, especially in segmenting small lesions.
