In inverse problems, the parameters of a model are estimated based on observations of the model response. The Bayesian approach is powerful for solving such problems;one formulates a prior distribution for the parameter state that is updated with the observations to compute the posterior parameter distribution. Solving for the posterior distribution can be challenging when, e.g., prior and posterior significantly differ from one another and/or the parameter space is high-dimensional. We use a sequence of importance sampling measures that arise by tempering the likelihood to approach inverse problems exhibiting a significant distance between prior and posterior. Each importance sampling measure is identified by cross-entropy minimization as proposed in the context of Bayesian inverse problems in Engel et al. (2021). To efficiently address problems with high-dimensional parameter spaces we set up the minimization procedure in a low-dimensional subspace of the original parameter space. The principal idea is to analyse the spectrum of the second-moment matrix of the gradient of the log-likelihood function to identify a suitable subspace. Following Zahm et al. (2021), an upper bound on the Kullback-Leibler-divergence between full-dimensional and subspace posterior is provided, which can be utilized to determine the effective dimension of the inverse problem corresponding to a prescribed approximation error bound. We suggest heuristic criteria for optimally selecting the number of model and model gradient evaluations in each iteration of the importance sampling sequence. The contamination of the environment by organic pollutants is a major risk factor,particularly for developing *** organic pollutants(SOPs)like the phenolic compounds,polyaromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs),pesticides,and herbicides pose serious environmental and health issues owing to their toxic characteristics and poor *** from their potential mutagenicity,carcinogenicity,tetragenicity and high body accumulation,these pollutants have become an increase concern *** is a promising alternative strategy for removing organic pollutants during water purification *** have several advantages such as simplicity of operation,good sorption capacity,high recoverability and *** a result,the focus and novelty of this review is on recent trends in the use of biosorbents,with a particular emphasis on the removal of SOPs from *** also cover use of bacteria biosorbents,fungal,algae and chitosan/chitin *** from that,we have also reviewed various classes of SOPs,their levels in the environment,classification and available characteristics techniques suitable for the adsorption experiments of these nanocomposites *** addition,we have provided comprehensive explanations and conclusions on possible future application of biosorbents and the mechanism of adsorption of these materials for removal of these SOPs from wastewater during water purification processes.

COVID-19, a respiratory illness caused by SARS-CoV-2, has brought attention to a common symptom: loss of smell and taste. Anosmia, a prevalent symptom of COVID-19, varies in severity from mild to severe, necessitating accurate diagnostic tools. The study proposes a novel framework for predicting COVID-19 anosmia severity utilizing YOLOv8 for classification and EigenCAM for interpretability. YOLOv8, optimized for object detection, is adapted for classification tasks using advanced architectural enhancements and mosaic augmentation. EigenCAM provides interpretability by highlighting image regions crucial for predictions, aiding clinical decision-making. Evaluation across multiple YOLOv8 model sizes using DTI and FLAIR modalities reveals robust performance, with the Large model excelling in DTI and the Nano model in FLAIR. Compared to our previous work, the framework significantly enhances accuracy and interpretability in predicting anosmia severity, marking a substantial advancement in medical image analysis. This study underscores the potential of deep learning for precise and interpretable medical diagnostics, offering insights into anosmia severity prediction.

Breast cancer is a significant global healthcare challenge, particularly in developing and underdeveloped countries, with profound physical, emotional, and psychological consequences, including mortality. Timely diagnosis and accurate treatment are crucial in addressing this issue. We propose the utilization of a feature selection technique to identify the most relevant features from among all features for breast cancer diagnosis, and show that Genetic Algorithms are impressive for this task. The study compares the results of GA with no selection and an alternative method, Principle Component Analysis (PCA). Three machine learning models, all based on supervised learning with data split into training and test data, are employed for binary classification using the selected feature subset. The evaluation metrics employed encompass accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score. Among the selected models, Random Forest demonstrates the most favorable outcomes, achieving an accuracy score of 0.96, precision score of 0.96, recall value of 0.98, and an F1-score of 0.97. These results underscore the effectiveness of GA in feature selection for breast cancer diagnosis. Consequently, the integration of Genetic Algorithms (GA) with Random Forest showcases the superior performance among the evaluated models.

The integration of terrestrial and satellite wireless communication networks offers a practical solution to enhance network coverage, connectivity, and cost-effectiveness. Moreover, in today’s interconnected world, connectivity’s reliable and widespread availability is increasingly important across various domains. This is especially more crucial for applications like the Internet of Things (IoT), remote sensing, disaster management, and bridging the digital divide. However, allocating the limited network resources efficiently and ensuring seamless handover between satellite and terrestrial networks present significant challenges. Therefore, this study introduces a resource allocation framework for integrated satellite-terrestrial networks to address these challenges. The framework leverages local cache pool deployments and non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) to reduce time delays and improve energy efficiency. Our proposed approach utilizes a multi-agent enabled deep deterministic policy gradient algorithm (MADDPG) to optimize user association, cache design, and transmission power control, resulting in enhanced energy efficiency. The approach comprises two phases: User Association and Power Control, where users are treated as agents, and Cache Optimization, where the satellite (Bs) is considered the agent. Through extensive simulations, we demonstrate that our approach surpasses conventional single-agent deep reinforcement learning algorithms in addressing cache design and resource allocation challenges in integrated terrestrial-satellite networks. Specifically, our proposed approach achieves significantly higher energy efficiency and reduced time delays compared to existing methods. This research highlights the importance and addresses the need for efficient resource allocation and cache design in integrated terrestrial-satellite networks, paving the way for enhanced connectivity and improved network performance in various applications. An analysis of machine learning algorithms in rotating machines maintenance

The industrial maintenance activities represent an increase in production costs, mainly caused by unnecessary production stops. Recent technologies approaches are handling the continuous monitoring of industrial machines, storing sensors data, and also maintenance history. More data analysis is necessary specifically for rotating machines presenting methodologies to reduce the maintenance. In order to handle this problem, a comparative analysis of machine learning methods is presented. The strategy aims to predict failures and then indicates the maintenance necessity before a break occurs. Thus, it is applied and analyzed the specific machine learning algorithms, Gradient Boosting and Random Forest, using a dataset of rotation machines. The results show that both methods have an excellent performance (metrics accuracy, precision, and recall), with slightly better results in Gradient Boosting (hit rate of 99.93%) indicating the prominent application of these algorithms in this industrial scenario.

Spatial computing is a technological advancement that facilitates the seamless integration of devices into the physical environment, resulting in a more natural and intuitive digital world user experience. Spatial computing has the potential to become a significant advancement in the field of computing. From GPS and location-based services to healthcare, spatial computing technologies have influenced and improved our interactions with the digital world. The use of spatial computing in creating interactive digital environments has become increasingly popular and effective. This is explained by its increasing significance among researchers and industrial organisations, which motivated us to conduct this review. This review provides a detailed overview of spatial computing, including its enabling technologies and its impact on various applications. Projects related to spatial computing are also discussed. In this review, we also explored the potential challenges and limitations of spatial computing. Furthermore, we discuss potential solutions and future directions. The technology growth nowadays has made its way into the world of transportation by establishing smart vehicles and smarter vehicular transportation named Vehicular Ad-hoc networks (VANET). VANET gains its fame day by day by the way how it facilitates the efficient and safe transportation to the voyagers. However, the prime requirement of VANET is authentication. The main aim of the proposed work is to develop a practical and efficient pseudonymous authentication protocol which augments the conditional privacy preservation. Two-Way authentication is provided using local alias and global alias name. The alias name has offered to all the vehicles who register with the certification authority. The simulation result shows that the Two-Way protocol provides authentication with optimal packet delivery ratio (PDR), end-to-end delay and propagation delay. © 2020, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Machine Learning (ML) models trained on biased data can reproduce and even amplify these biases. Since such models are deployed to make decisions that can affect people's lives, ensuring their fairness is critical. One approach to mitigate possible unfairness of ML models is to map the input data into a less-biased new space by means of training the model on fair representations. Several methods based on adversarial learning have been proposed to learn fair representation by fooling an adversary in predicting the sensitive attribute (e.g., gender or race). However, adversarial-based learning can be too difficult to optimize in practice; besides, it penalizes the utility of the representation. Hence, in this research effort we train bias-free representations from the input data by inducing a uniform distribution over the sensitive attributes in the latent space. In particular, we propose a probabilistic framework that learns these representations by enforcing the correct reconstruction of the original data, plus the prediction of the attributes of interest while eliminating the possibility of predicting the sensitive ones. Our method leverages the inability of Deep Neural Networks (DNNs) to generalize when trained on a noisy label space to regularize the latent space. We use a network head that predicts a noisy version of the sensitive attributes in order to increase the uncertainty of their predictions at test time. Our experiments in two datasets demonstrated that the proposed model significantly improves fairness while maintaining the prediction accuracy of downstream tasks.

Medical image segmentation plays a crucial role in various healthcare applications, enabling accurate diagnosis, treatment planning, and disease monitoring. In recent years, Vision Transformers (ViTs) have emerged as a promising technique for addressing the challenges in medical image segmentation. In medical images, structures are usually highly interconnected and globally distributed. ViTs utilize their multi-scale attention mechanism to model the long-range relationships in the images. However, they do lack image-related inductive bias and translational invariance, potentially impacting their performance. Recently, researchers have come up with various ViT-based approaches that incorporate CNNs in their architectures, known as Hybrid Vision Transformers (HVTs) to capture local correlation in addition to the globa l information in the images. This survey paper provides a detailed review of the recent advancements in ViTs and HVTs for medical image segmentation. Along with the categorization of ViT and HVT-based medical image segmentation approaches we also present a detailed overview of their real-time applications in several medical image modalities. This survey may serve as a valuable resource for researchers, healthcare practitioners, and students in understanding the state-of-the-art approaches for ViT-based medical image segmentation.
