Tangent stabilised large strain isotropic elasticity was recently proposed by Poya et al. [1] wherein by working directly with principal stretches the entire eigenstructure of constitutive and geometric/initial stiffness terms were found in closed-form, giving fresh insights into exact convexity conditions of highly non-convex functions in discrete settings. Consequently, owing to these newly found tangent eigenvalues an analytic tangent stabilisation was proposed (for common non-convex strain energies that exhibit material and/or geometric instabilities) bypassing incumbent numerical approaches routinely used in nonlinear finite element analysis. This formulation appears to be extremely robust for quasi-static simulation of complex deformations even with no load increments and time stepping while still capturing instabilities (similar to dynamic analysis) automatically in ways that are infeasible for path-following techniques in practice. In this work, we generalise the notion of tangent stabilised elasticity to virtually all known invariant formulations of nonlinear elasticity. We show that, closed-form eigen-decomposition of tangents is easily available irrespective of invariant formulation or integrity basis. In particular, we work out closed-form tangent eigensystems for isotropic Total Lagrangian deformation gradient (F)-based and right Cauchy-Green (C)-based as well as Updated Lagrangian left Cauchy-Green (b)-based formulations and present their exact convexity conditions postulated in terms of their corresponding tangent and initial stiffness eigenvalues. In addition, we introduce the notion of geometrically stabilised polyconvex large strain elasticity for models that are materially stable but exhibit geometric instabilities for whom we construct their initial stiffness in a spectrally-decomposed form analytically. Breamy: An augmented reality mHealth prototype for surgical decision-making in breast cancer

In 2020, according to WHO, breast cancer affected 2.3 million women worldwide, resulting in 685,000 fatalities. By the end of the year, approximately 7.8 million women worldwide had survived their breast cancer making it the most widespread form of cancer globally. Surgical treatment decisions, including choosing between oncoplastic options, often require quick decision-making within an 8-week time frame. However, many women lack the necessary knowledge and preparation for making such complex informed decisions. Anxiety and unsatisfactory outcomes can result from inadequate decision-making processes, leading to complications and the need for revision surgeries. Shared decision-making and personalized decision aids have shown positive effects on patient satisfaction and treatment outcomes. This paper introduces Breamy, a prototype mobile health (mHealth) application that utilizes augmented reality (AR) technology to assist breast cancer patients in making informed decisions. The app provides 3D visualizations of different oncoplastic procedures, aiming to improve confidence in surgical decision-making, reduce decisional regret, and enhance patient well-being after surgery. To determine the perception of the usefulness of Breamy, we collected data from 166 participants through an online survey. The results suggest that Breamy has the potential to reduce patient's anxiety levels and assist them during the decision-making process. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Bridges play a vital part in the transportation system by ensuring the connectedness of transportation systems, which is critical for a country’s social and economic prosperity by offering daily mobility to the people. However, according to the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE 2017), many U.S. bridges are in critical condition, raising safety issues, with 9.1 and 13.6 percent of the country’s 614,387 bridges, respectively, structurally defective, and functionally obsolete. Every day, 178 million people traverse these structurally defective bridges. Furthermore, the average annual failure rate is expected to be between 87 and 222. Bridge breakdowns have disastrous repercussions, and in many cases, result in death. While bridge authorities strive to improve bridge conditions, budget limits make it difficult to make cost-effective maintenance decisions. Bridge authorities distribute limited repair resources based on projected future bridge conditions. As a result, building a data-driven, autonomous, and effective bridge condition prediction model is critical for improving maintenance decision-making. In this paper, we present a novel bridge condition prediction framework using advanced Machine Learning (ML) algorithms on the National Bridge Inventory (NBI) dataset. The framework consists of two stages, where the most informative features from the NBI dataset are selected using the Recursive Feature Elimination process and in the 2 nd step, ML classifiers are applied to the selected features for bridge condition prediction. The experimental results show that the proposed framework can effectively predict bridge conditions by producing highly accurate results in terms of accuracy, precision, recall, and f1-score.

Physics-informed neural networks (PINNs) have emerged as a new simulation paradigm for fluid flows and are especially effective for inverse and hybrid problems. However, vanilla PINNs often fail in forward problems, especially at high Reynolds (Re) number flows. Herein, we study systematically the classical lid-driven cavity flow at Re = 2, 000, 3, 000 and 5, 000. We observe that vanilla PINNs obtain two classes of solutions, one class that agrees with direct numerical simulations (DNS), and another that is an unstable solution to the Navier-Stokes equations and not physically realizable. We attribute this solution multiplicity to singularities and unbounded vorticity, and we propose regularization methods that restore a unique solution within 1% difference from the DNS solution. In particular, we introduce a parameterized entropy-viscosity method as artificial eddy viscosity and identify suitable parameters that drive the PINNs solution towards the DNS solution. Furthermore, we solve the inverse problem by subsampling the DNS solution, and identify a new eddy viscosity distribution that leads to velocity and pressure fields almost identical to their DNS counterparts. Surprisingly, a single measurement at a random point suffices to obtain a unique PINNs DNS-like solution even without artificial viscosity, which suggests possible pathways in simulating high Reynolds number turbulent flows using vanilla PINNs. © 2023, CC BY-NC-SA.

The objective of the paper is to provide a model capable of serving as a basis for retraining a convolutional neural network that can be used to detect COVID-19 cases through spectrograms of coughing, sneezing and other respiratory sounds from infected people. To address this challenge, the methodology was focused on Deep Learning technics worked with a dataset of sounds of sick and non-sick people, and using ImageNet's Xception architecture to train the model to be presented through Fine-Tuning. The results obtained were a precision of 0.75 to 0.80, this being drastically affected by the quality of the dataset at our availability, however, when getting relatively high results for the conditions of the data used, we can conclude that the model can present much better results if it is working with a dataset specifically of respiratory sounds of COVID-19 cases with high quality. © 2020 IEEE.

Multi-criteria-based group decision-making methods are important in the area of data science. Many of such works are focused on multi criteria with crisp inputs. However, in practice approximate reasoning methodology is used to address multi criteria. In general decision-making problems are categorized as problems under uncertain environment where uncertainty is due to fuzziness of criteria for the set of substitutes. In order to select the best among the available feasible alternatives, it is mandatory to execute multi-criteria decision-making problem using soft computing approach. In this study, we have developed performance index algorithm to implement the methodology of fuzzy multi-criteria decision-making methodologies. A fuzzy likeness between evaluation alternatives and extreme solutions of a decision matrix is the backbone of performance index algorithm. The computation steps of proposed fuzzy multi-criteria decision-making method are quite simple, efficient & it is also one of the goals of this paper to reduce computational loads for a multi-criteria decision-making problem under fuzzy environment. This research paper was developed to implement an intelligent solution for This research paper was developed to implement an intelligent solution for the control of the capacity of commercial establishments in times of COVID-19 using Yolo, which is a Convolutional Neural Network and a Deep Learning algorithm. For the application of this solution, a COCO dataset was used that is used in the implementation of Yolov4. A computer module was developed for the analysis of the flow of people, using Python 3.7, which mainly consists of an algorithm that determines the path and direction (movement) of a person, and this is evaluated in a limit o threshold that acts as the entrance and exit door of the main establishment;that is, it determines whether a person leaves or enters according to their route and direction. The results indicate that it is possible to implement this solution as an additional monitoring module for use as capacity control and with this offer a complete alternative to the owners of commercial establishments. In this way, it seeks to control the maximum capacity allowed due to the pandemic generated by the Sars-Cov.2 virus. The tests were conducted using an AMD Ryzen 7 3750H processor and an NVIDIA GTX 1660 TI video card. The possibility of determining whether the number of people who entered less than the number of people who left exceeds the maximum allowed by the pandemic on 50% of the real capacity. © 2020 IEEE.

software quality is critical, as low quality, or "Code smell," increases technical debt and maintenance costs. There is a timely need for a collaborative model that detects and manages code smells by learning from diverse and distributed data sources while respecting privacy and providing a scalable solution for continuously integrating new patterns and practices in code quality management. However, the current literature is still missing such capabilities. This paper addresses the previous challenges by proposing a Federated Learning Code Smell Detection (FedCSD) approach, specifically targeting "God Class," to enable organizations to train distributed ML models while safeguarding data privacy collaboratively. We conduct experiments using manually validated datasets to detect and analyze code smell scenarios to validate our approach. Experiment 1, a centralized training experiment, revealed varying accuracies across datasets, with dataset two achieving the lowest accuracy (92.30%) and datasets one and three achieving the highest (98.90% and 99.5%, respectively). Experiment 2, focusing on cross-evaluation, showed a significant drop in accuracy (lowest: 63.80%) when fewer smells were present in the training dataset, reflecting technical debt. Experiment 3 involved splitting the dataset across 10 companies, resulting in a global model accuracy of 98.34%, comparable to the centralized model’s highest accuracy. The application of federated ML techniques demonstrates promising performance improvements in code-smell detection, benefiting both software developers and researchers. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. The software supply chain (SSC) attack has become one of the crucial issues that are being increased rapidly with the advancement of the software development domain. In general, SSC attacks execute during the software development processes lead to vulnerabilities in software products targeting downstream customers and even involved stakeholders. Machine Learning approaches are proven in detecting and preventing software security vulnerabilities. Besides, emerging quantum machine learning can be promising in addressing SSC attacks. Considering the distinction between traditional and quantum machine learning, performance could be varies based on the proportions of the experimenting dataset. In this paper, we conduct a comparative analysis between quantum neural networks (QNN) and conventional neural networks (NN) with a software supply chain attack dataset known as ClaMP. Our goal is to distinguish the performance between QNN and NN and to conduct the experiment, we develop two different models for QNN and NN by utilizing Pennylane for quantum and TensorFlow and Keras for traditional respectively. We evaluated the performance of both models with different proportions of the ClaMP dataset to identify the f1 score, recall, precision, and accuracy. We also measure the execution time to check the efficiency of both models. The demonstration result indicates that execution time for QNN is slower than NN with a higher percentage of datasets. Due to recent advancements in QNN, a large level of experiments shall be carried out to understand both models accurately in our future research. © 2023, CC BY.
