The availability of wood in nature cannot keep up with the growing number of people's needs. Numerous wood processing methods, including plywood, blockboard, and veneer, have evolved to fulfill the demands of the solid wood furniture business. Various synthetic materials, such as high-pressure laminate (HPL), have also been circulating for the covering materials used in furniture finishing. Despite being processed, materials used in production, including furniture creation, create waste. This study aims to produce a bedside table from waste materials, including the primary and finishing components. This furniture has a smart lighting system using an Arduino Uno microcontroller and PIR and LDR sensors. Design exploration is employed in this qualitative research project to create bedside tables with smart lighting features out of woodworking waste. This study tries to define, ideate, and create a prototype. The first practical step is designing and creating a bedside table prototype with an automatic light function that can only turn on in low light settings. The two sensors were function-tested before being incorporated into the furniture. Based on the findings of multiple experiments, the sensor was declared successful and installed on the bedside table. This product uses sustainable materials in its creation, reusing plywood and HPL waste material to make a bedside table. Additionally, this table uses sustainable energy in the form of energy-saving lights and efficient use, which is only performed at night or in low-light situations. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2023.

Cities are developing due to population growth, socio-economic structure changes, technology and spatial interaction with its surroundings. "Bagian Wilayah Kota (BWK) C"or so-called "urban zone C"of Bandar Lampung municipality comprising districts of Sukarame, Tanjung Senang, and Way Halim is currently growing both internally and externally due to the development of Trans-Sumatera highway and Institute Teknologi Sumatera (ITERA). The dynamics of development and activities have caused a growing physical urban space, affecting the changes of urban structure directly. The current development in BWK C has been considered as unmanageable and potentially caused some problems in spatial plan in the future. To prevent the chaotic of spatial plan in the future, this study aims to identify the changes of urban structure in BWK C of Bandar Lampung municipality due to the internal and external development of its area. This study benefits in providing comprehensive standpoints about the process of urban structure changes based on urban activities so that city government could gain a systematic discourse of urban development which advantages in policymaking for spatial development in Bandar Lampung municipality in the future. This study conducted several analytical methods ranging from comparative analysis, spatial analysis, and hierarchical centrality index analysis. For data collection, this study applied secondary data survey and field work observation, using data from 2010 to 2016. The findings of this study reveal that the physical development in BWK C is getting compacted as its morphology changed from ribbon shaped city to octopus shaped city. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Cost and risk optimization is a central issue in the offshore Oil and Gas sector, and risk-based approaches has been more and more employed to assist the segment in the concretization of that goal. In this sense, the use of Risk Based Inspection by the oil industry has increased. The inspection procedure aims mitigating the uncertainty related to the asset degradation state, enabling a better quantification of the actual damage, and, consequently, increasing the accuracy of remaining life projections. However, the costs involved in offshore subsea inspections are considerable. Therefore, the optimization of inspection plans plays a crucial role in the definition of an asset management program economically balanced. To perform an efficient optimization, it is important not only obtain an effective optimization algorithm but also achieve a high quality of the information used as input. In other words, an adequate definition of the risk indexes used is necessary, as well as the entire process used to quantify them. In this context, this paper presents a framework for obtaining the optimized inspection plans, starting from the assessment of the risk associated with the failure modes, moving on through the process of defining risk indices and, finally, presenting the optimization process itself. In this way, the framework proposed presents all the phases necessary to obtain optimized inspection plans, including the stage of preparation for the optimization process. Finally, the application of the proposed framework is illustrated by the elaboration of the inspection plans for a subsea manifold. Copyright © 2023 by ASME.

In the current digital era, virtual reality (VR) technology is rapidly expanding across various fields, including education and cultural preservation. This technology offers immersive opportunities to explore and experience architectural spaces, promising increased understanding and learning motivation. Despite being relatively new in Indonesia, the application of VR has shown significant potential for education and cultural preservation through the implementation of a 3D virtual tour in Kampung Adat Pulo Garut. Therefore, this research aimed to develop VR media to enhance users' spatial experience and preserve the cultural values of Kampung Adat Pulo Garut through interactive learning. The method used was Research and Development (R&D) through the Multimedia Development Life Cycle (MDLC) model. The equipment used was LiDAR Scanner FJD Trion P1 Series, DJI Mavic Air 2S Drone, and Sony A6000 Camera. The method used included aerial and terrestrial mapping, 3D modeling, and the development of virtual environments through Unreal Engine. The developmental process included various stages, namely concept, design, material collection, compilation, testing, and distribution. The result showed an interactive 3D virtual tour of Kampung Adat Pulo Garut, called “Echoes of Tradition.” Unreal Engine was found to enable detailed visualization of traditional architecture and village environments with high accuracy and interactivity. The final product offered an immersive learning experience, enriching users' experience, and enabling digital preservation of cultural heritage. The next step, to get an overview of the research results, used a questionnaire as an instrument which was distributed to a total of 250 respondents. Furthermore, the potential implication of VR in education and cultural preservation was identified, guiding similar applications in the future. This paper is dedicated to presenting a combined Generalized Finite Difference Method (GFDM) and Domain-Selection Method (DSM) approach for solving degenerate boundary problems which are usually encountered in engineering simulations. Compared with traditional Domain-Decomposition Method (DDM), the most critical advantage of the present GFDM-DSM is that it is entirely free from matching continuous boundary conditions for different parts of the fluid domain of interest, which is sometimes hard to perform for specific situations. Instead, the only prerequisite of the present GFDM-DSM is to identify which sub-domain each computational node belongs to, and then a linear algebraic system can be assembled according to the pattern of domain-selection. Four benchmarks are performed to validate the convergence and accuracy of the present GFDM-DSM. It is shown that the present GFDM-DSM holds satisfactory accuracy for solving degenerate boundary problems. In particular, the present DSM is a flexible strategy since it can be also combined with other localized domain-type meshless methods in practical applications. © 2023 Elsevier Ltd

Following with the age of technology, many advanced continuous developing the multi-functional small sur-face boats, and applied to the real-time monitoring of the near-shore environment, salvage and search operations, and marine disaster early warning and other livelihood purposes. The field of military operations includes intelligence reconnaissance, offshore reconnaissance and patrol, protecting the fishing vessels, and anti-terrorism tasks, anti-mine warfare and target ships for shooting training and other related military fields. In this study, the unmanned surface vehicle is the catamaran that equipped with single-beam sonar system, and used the Taguchi experimental design method, analysis of variance to discuss the effect of each controllable factor on the identification ability under water. The difference analysis is helpful to improve the underwater identification ability of unmanned surface vehicles. In addition, based on this study results, the best factor-level combination is A1B3 (such as low ship’s speed and located the sonar device near free-surface). To achieve the robust design, the dynamic navigation time of un-manned surface vehicles and enhance the underwater identification performance, it can provide reference for other units. © 2022 Taiwan Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers. Development of a Multi-Node Monitoring System for Analyzing Plant Growth and Indoor Environment Interactions: An Empirical Study on a Plant Factory

In plant factories, multi-layered shelves are used to maximize production per unit area by densely growing plants. The large number of plants placed in a spacious area leads to complex interactions between the plants and the growing environment, resulting in a potentially non-uniform growing environment. When the environment is non-uniform, achieving consistent production based on location becomes challenging. This study aims to analyze these interactions through multi-node, multi-factor monitoring in an actual plant factory that engages in hydroponics. To achieve this, we developed a monitoring system tailored for measuring the growth environment in plant factories. Specifically, we created a monitoring device capable of real-time measurement of six key indoor environmental factors, a network system that facilitates multi-node data collection by utilizing both Zigbee and WiFi, and a dashboard for simplified management. The developed monitoring system was implemented in an 'A' plant factory and collected 44,640 data points over a month. It empirically demonstrated that indoor environmental factors vary by location within the growing space, depending on the surrounding environment and the placement and operation of environmental facilities. The temperature of the nutrient solution showed a statistically strong correlation with other indoor environmental factors. This indicates that the operation of environmental facilities in a plant factory should be comprehensively managed in real-time, with a focus on the relationship of the nutrient solution temperature to other indoor environmental factors. Such management is especially crucial when considering the dynamic interrelationships among nutrient solution temperature, other indoor conditions, and the varying demands imposed by plant growth activity. These results offer valuable guidelines for optimizing the growing environment in plant factories and will serve as an important reference for plant factory operators. © 20

Bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cell(MSC)is one of the most actively studied cell types due to its regenerative potential and immunomodulatory *** cell expansion methods using 2D tissue culture plates and 2.5D microcarriers in bioreactors can generate large cell numbers,but they compromise stem cell potency and lack mechanical preconditioning to prepare MSC for physiological loading expected in *** overcome these challenges,in this work,we describe a 3D dynamic hydrogel using magneto-stimulation for direct MSC manufacturing to *** our technology,we found that dynamic mechanical stimulation(DMS)enhanced matrix-integrinβ1 interactions which induced MSCs spreading and *** addition,DMS could modulate MSC biofunctions including directing MSC differentiation into specific lineages and boosting paracrine activities(e.g.,growth factor secretion)through YAP nuclear localization and FAK-ERK *** our magnetic hydrogel,complex procedures from MSC manufacturing to final clinical use,can be integrated into one single platform,and we believe this‘all-in-one’technology could offer a paradigm shift to existing standards in MSC therapy.

Implementation of Remote Sensing and GIS Techniques to Study the Flash Flood Risk at NEOM Mega-City, Saudi Arabia

Southern Red Sea flooding is common. Assessing flood-prone development risks helps decrease life and property threats. It tries to improve flood awareness and advocate property owner steps to lessen risk. DEMs and topography data were analyzed by RS and GIS. Fifth-through seventh-order rivers were studied. Morphometric analysis assessed the area’s flash flood danger. NEOM has 14 catchments. We determined each catchment’s area, perimeter, maximum length, total stream length, minimum and maximum elevations. It also uses remote sensing. It classifies Landsat 8 photos for land use and cover maps. Image categorization involves high-quality Landsat satellite images and secondary data, plus user experience and knowledge. This study used the wetness index, elevation, slope, stream power index, topographic roughness index, normalized difference vegetation index, sediment transport index, stream order, flow accumulation, and geological formation. Analytic hierarchy considered all earlier criteria (AHP). The geometric consistency index GCI (0.15) and the consistency ratio CR (4.3%) are calculated. The study showed five degrees of flooding risk for Wadi Zawhi and four for Wadi Surr, from very high to very low. 9.16% of Wadi Surr is vulnerable to very high flooding, 50% to high flooding, 40% to low flooding, and 0.3% to very low flooding. Wadi Zawhi’s flood risk is 0.23% high, moderate, low, or extremely low. They’re in Wadi Surr and Wadi Zawhi. Flood mapping helps prepare for emergencies. Flood-prone areas should prioritize resilience.
