Energy yield of solar PV in 34 Indonesian cities with respect to various roof pitches and orientations

In the tropical regions such as Indonesia, the energy yield difference from rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) between facing to and away from the equator may be lesser than that in the non-tropical regions. However, a detailed recommendation on optimum roof orientation for various locations in Indonesia is yet to be found. This study aims to map the potential annual energy yield from rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) in 34 Indonesian cities with respect to various roof pitches and orientations, and to quantify the impact of the design variables, using computational modelling and simulation with Rhinoceros, Grasshopper, and Ladybug plugins. The roof pitches as eight cardinal and inter-cardinal orientations of 20 degrees, 30 degrees, 45 degrees, and 60 degrees are considered as common roof pitches in Indonesia. Based on simulations of 100 Wp solar PV with 0.748 m2 panel surface area, the greatest annual energy yield across all cities is approximately 208, 199, 183, and 158 kWh/m2. The greatest annual energy yields are found in cities in Bali and Nusa Tenggara islands. The East orientation provides the maximum annual energy yield in most parts of Sumatera, Borneo, Sulawesi, and Papua islands. In almost all parts of Java, Bali, and Nusa Tenggara islands, the best orientation is North. Based on sensitivity analysis with multilinear regression, the roof pitch has a greater influence on the annual energy yield, compared to roof orientation. Selecting the optimum roof pitch is therefore critical in the design and implementation of rooftop solar PV in the Indonesian context.

Modeling of urban growth in tsunami-prone city using logistic regression: Analysis of Banda Aceh, Indonesia

The urban development of Banda Aceh, Indonesia was very rapid after the tsunami in 2004, posing critical challenges in planning for its future sustainable development. Scientifically-derived information about its land change patterns and the driving factors of its rapid urbanization might provide vital information. However, the spatio temporal patterns of its urban land use/cover (LUC) changes have not been examined. Hence, this study aims to: (1) detect and analyze the spatio temporal changes in the urban LUC of Banda Aceh between 2005 and 2009;and (2) examine the driving factors that influence urban growth. The 2005 and 2009 LUC maps were derived from remote sensing satellite images using a supervised classification method (maximum likelihood). Both LUC maps contained four categories, namely built-up area, vegetation, water body, and wet land. The 2005 LUC map had an overall accuracy of 77.8%, while the 2009 LUC map had 89.4%. The two LUC maps were re-classed into two categories (i.e. built-up area and non built-up area) to facilitate logistic regression analysis. A total of seven variables or potential driving factors of urban growth were identified and examined, including two socio-economic factors (population density and distance to central business district) and five biophysical factors (distances to green open space, historical area, river, highway, and coastal area). The results showed that the LUC of Banda Aceh has changed drastically between 2005 and 2009, particularly its built-up area, which increased by 90.8% (1016.0 ha) at the expense of the other LUC categories. The socio-economic factors showed positive influence to the growth of the city, whereas the biophysical factors showed negative effect, except the distance to coastal areas. The importance of the findings for future landscape and urban planning for Banda Aceh is discussed. (C) 2015 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

An affordable vertical house, which is known as rusun in Indonesian term becomes the utopia of a compact city. The rusun to be the main actor contributing to the creation of liveable comfort in dense areas by relocating squatters and slum inhabitants to better living places. Technical guidelines and building standards play a major role in a building's environmental impact. These standards will be reviewed based on their impact on building performance. There are two prototypes of rusun referenced in 05/PRT/M/2007, and the assessment of these prototypes has been done by using ENVi-met. The meteorological data for the ENVI-met configuration input is adapted to the same weather and climate conditions taken from the data measured on June 13th, 2012. The analysis of this assessment will focus on building orientation, building length, building height, and also the microclimate which is impacted by these prototypes. Based on the assessment, it is recommended that the layout of outdoor space on the north side should provide as much green coverage as possible, either for shadowing or for the benefit of its albedo. The simulation shows that building ratio of 1:3 produces higher wind speed, which also controls air temperature and humidity. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Loading and unloading of containers from ship to the quay at the container terminal is a high risk activity that has high potential of creating accidents both to human as well as to property. The study is aimed to conduct safety assessment that can be used further for minimising work accidents at the port. Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA) method is used to identify the type, cause, and effect of the potential risks based on the activity sequences. A risk matrix is arranged for obtaining the risk level. Root cause of the highest risk activity is investigated using Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) method. 5 potential risks are identified i.e. worker slips, trips or falls; truck struck by quay crane, worker struck by truck, worker struck by falling hatch cover or container, and worker trapped between containers. The root causes of potential accidents are human fault, equipment maintenance, and environment.

The main aim of this project is to develop a sustainable, safe & environmentally sound ship recycling industry in Indonesia. As the world's largest archipelago state, it is essential for Indonesia to maintain a large fleet of ships to ensure sufficient sea transportation. However, after completing their operational life, all these ships are required to be dismantled. Currently, there is no proper understanding & infrastructure for 'Ship Recycling' in Indonesia yet. This lack of understanding causes serious contamination of the sea which results in harming the environment. Furthermore, the working conditions are extremely poor because the yards are not fit for purpose and workers are exposed to many hazards. Referring to International Maritime Organization’s Hong Kong Convention a project is carried out to preparing the process of establishing green and sustainable ship recycling industry in Indonesia by conducting gap analyses and proposing environmentally friendly ship recycling yard concept. © 2019: The Royal Institution of Naval Architects.

Dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) has become an endemic in major cities in Indonesia. The climate change and poor level of awareness and knowledge of the community in Indonesia have caused an increase in the DHF cases. Outbreaks on January until April 2015, the morbidity rate reached 50.75. In 1996, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) predicted threefold increase in the dengue hemorrhagic fever incidents in Indonesia by 2070, if the environment and community conditions do not improve. This study aims to provide a dynamic model to predict the dynamics of the DHF incidents based on climate variability in the Special Capital Region of Jakarta. The design of this study was ecologic study with hypothesis test, modelling, simulation, and intervention. In collecting the data, interview with respondents and measurement of climate variables were conducted. Interviews with respondents include the level of knowledge, attitudes, and behaviour (PSP) of the community. Measurements of climate factors include rainfall, temperature, humidity and CO2 level in the ambient environment. The DHF system dynamics model simulation shows that the significant effect on the decline of Breeding Places and the decrease of DHF cases were achieved by increasing the participation of the community to actively control water places that are potential for mosquito breeding places. © 2019 Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Samosir Island is one of tourism destination in Indonesia and there was an increasing of coffee shop number. This research tries to investigate how much financial profit received by coffee shop if it use biogas as a new energy source. This research had been conducted from April to June 2018. Research parameter were production costs, income, revenue, Benefit Cost Ratio, Revenue Cost Ratio, Return On Investment, Break Even Point, and identify opportunities, threats, strengths and weaknesses by SWOT analysis to identify whether the community of Samosir is willing to use biogas. The results of financial analysis namely production cost IDR 1,964,500;income of IDR.4,360,000;revenue of IDR. 2,303,000;B/C (%) was 79.7;R/C (%) was 151;ROI (year) of 1.6;BEP Price was IDR. 5,302;BEP Production of 361 glass. By SWOT Analysis it was known that development strategies are taken place include socialize biogas technology, benefits of biogas on energy, fertilizer and soil quality to the community, benefits of biogas in saving fuel purchases and providing biogas stock devices on biogas group. The result showed that biogas was worthy of being used as a new energy source on the coffee shop business on Samosir Island. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

This paper assesses air flow characteristics in and around buildings under different environmental conditions using computational fluid dynamics modeling techniques. It argues that any "generic" representation of air flow without explicitly stating the quantification of the parameters assumed in deriving those representations (as commonly encountered in architectural design guides or similar publications), may be erroneous and should be used with caution. To illustrate this point, an experimental approach is adopted to select certain air flow phenomena or design guidelines offered in some "representative" publications where the environmental context may not have been explicitly communicated in qualitative and quantitative terms. Demonstrative sets of quantitative values are then applied to the relevant design input parameters within certain assumed environmental context to simulate the air flow performance using an air flow modeling tool CFD-ACE+ (2000). The results from the parametric experimental set-ups demonstrate that any change in the environmental factors can significantly affect the boundary conditions and consequently the indoor air flow in both velocity and distribution pattern. It reinforces the main assertion of this work that it is critical for the building design team to clearly define the performance goals of the project as well as the contextual conditions, covering both the qualitative and the quantitative aspects as comprehensively as possible. This will facilitate a productive design process that will yield clear and accountable solutions accordingly.

The covid-19 pandemic case has changed the structure of life in all aspects throughout the world. The field of man-made environment or architecture is no exception. The interior arrangement of a building, as part of the man-made environment, is also affected. The interior design of a building today seems to be obliged to participate in following the standards of new health-protocols in the new normal *** about the interior of the building that has already been utilized? Of course it requires further study to find out whether the interior of a building can be said to be healthy or not. This study aims to examine the interior design of the lecturer room E12 building 2nd floor UNNES in terms of health that is emphasized from the behavior of its users by referring to the situation of the covid-19 pandemic and its future prospects. The research method used is by field observations to search visual data, observing user behavior and textual data. Those who are categorized as users of the lecturer room E12 building 2nd floor UNNES are lecturers from the Department of architecture, students, administrators and guests. The results of this study indicate that based on the pattern of user behavior and associated with the standard requirements of space, area, volume of space, material and infrastructure conditions, interior design of lecturer room E12 building 2nd floor UNNES, is included in healthy category, although there are several minor corrections that can be included as suggestions for improvement in order to adjust to the new normal era during the covid-19 pandemic period and thereafter. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Siwalankerto Sub-District in Surabaya. Siwalankerto was developed rapidly, influenced by educational facilities development. This further created a demand for sustainable food markets/ food kiosk. On the other hand, the unregulated development of traditional food hawkers along the Siwalankerto road existed. Therefore, architecture program study, Petra University proposed a redesigning strategy for the food kiosks in Siwalankerto Sub-district. The strategy not only would provide healthy-affordable foods for all Siwalankerto's residents, but also would generate income for residents with entrepreneurship and culinary skills. The literatures reviews on sustainable neighborhood, commercial provision, food production and inclusive design were conducted. Furthermore, observations and interviews were conducted to meatball-selling restaurant and food hawker. Secondly, the locational analysis was conducted to determine possible food kioks. Additionally, the participatory design was conducted based on inclusive design principles. The seven (7) food kiosk would be proposed for Siwalankerto. The designs would be developed from a typology of food kiosk design (3m-by-3m module). The food kiosk was designed considering the person with disability, such as: wheel chair users, crutch users and persons with vision disability. On the other hand, the layout were designed with proper kitchen and accessible toilet design. Lastly, the culture exploration could also enriched the functional design such as the food kiosk.
