Relationship between Embedment and Compressive Properties with Grain Direction of Hardwood Species

In general, softwoods are used as the main structural material for wooden structures, while hardwoods are less used. Some hardwoods show superior mechanical performance due to the high density about 1.0 x 103 kg/m3. Therefore, the utilizing hardwoods as structural materials are supposed to more flexible structural design proposals. Studies on the mechanical performance of hardwoods for structural design are not enough, especially as an embedment performance. In this study, it was conducted embedment and compression tests related to the joint performance of wooden structures using three species of hardwoods (Ulin, Buna, and Kuri) and a softwood (Sugi) to investigate the effects of strength performances such as density and woody structure. As a result, hardwoods with higher density showed higher strength performance. Embedment strength relative to compressive strength was 0.94 to 1.49 times higher in the direction parallel to the grain and 3.46 to 5.08 times higher in the direction perpendicular to the grain. About embedment strength, the ring-porous wood, Kuri, showed a similar trend (TR⨫RT, TL⨫RL) to that of a softwood, Sugi, while the diffuse-porous wood, Ulin and Buna, showed different trends (RTRL). © 2024 Society of Materials science Japan. In the last decade, the Indonesian government has implemented a program to use biodiesel as a substitute for fossil diesel to reduce dependence on fossil fuels. On the other hand, the development of biodiesel as an alternative fuel to replace fossil diesel has several challenges, one of which is the production of biodiesel, which is more complicated and requires a long process. However, the direct use of crude palm oil (CPO) in diesel engines is not recommended because it has many drawbacks. Research recently shows that fuel additives in diesel engines have promising prospects. Therefore, to solve the problem, this study used pure palm oil (PPaO) as the primary fuel, with the addition of silicon oxide (SiO2) as a fuel additive in diesel engines. The results showed that using SiO2 additive in PPaO can increase thermal efficiency by 18.8% at 60% load compared to diesel fuel (DF). Nevertheless, using this fuel increased specific fuel consumption (SFC) by 3.9% on average and increased the opacity by 153% compared to diesel fuel. These results indicate that SiO2 has the potential to be developed as an effective additive to PPaO fuel that can improve the efficiency and performance of diesel engines. © 2025 Institute of Physics Publishing. Environmental sustainability criteria in the multi-oriented shipbuilding industry in Indonesia

Preliminary studies have highlighted the potential of Indonesia's geographical, suprastructural, and infrastructural conditions to develop a strong shipbuilding industry, which is crucial for the success of the world maritime axis program and sea toll. However, despite high expectations, the industry faces challenges that threaten business sustainability, leading to bankruptcies. To assess business sustainability, it is essential to establish criteria and sub-criteria, which previous studies have overlooked, focusing only on technical and economic factors. Therefore, this research generally aims to develop and analyze environmentally friendly sustainable criteria in the multi-oriented shipyard industry so that it develops in accordance with the vision, mission, goals and strategies. The criteria development process involves identifying and reviewing relevant articles, classifying and refining the criteria, conducting expert validity testing, Pearson Product Moment validity testing, and reliability testing using the Alpha (Cronbach) method. The expert validity testing indicates that ‘people' received the highest average score of 4.67 among the criteria, and ‘infrastructure' scored the highest in the sub-criteria, with a score of 4.75. The validity testing with the Pearson Product Moment method demonstrates that the criteria and sub-criteria are valid and the reliability of 32 sub-criteria indicating their influence on promoting multi-oriented and environmentally sustainable shipbuilding industries. © 2023 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.

The design and construction of delivering announcements using a web-based SMS gateway aims to help overcome problems that often occur at pioneer airports;this is because when passengers want to travel, many passengers still arrive late to check-in, even though the passenger ticket has a notification for checking. -in 1 hour before Departure. If a flight's Departure is delayed or accelerated, passengers will only receive this information when they arrive at the airport, whereas if at the time the departure notification is delayed or accelerated, the passenger is still outside the airport or still on their way to the airport, as a result, they will definitely not receive the information. Testing voice announcements on parking, arrival, departure, delay, check-in, and waiting room services, as well as testing SMS broadcasts (30 user numbers and one airline), shows that the announcement application provides information through voice data recording and broadcasts SMS to passengers and families. Testing was carried out at Indonesian Pioner airport for 30 passengers for a week. The percentage of Ease of obtaining test voice information was 81.98%, and the percentage of Ease of obtaining broadcast SMS information was 83.1%. Implementing the announcement is feasible at pioneer airports with a percentage of 82.54%. © 2024 IEEE.

Corrosion poses a significant challenge in industries due to material degradation and high maintenance costs, making effective inhibitors essential. Recent studies suggest expired pharmaceuticals as alternative corrosion inhibitors, but identifying the most efficient compounds can be time-consuming. This study applies machine learning models, particularly Gradient Boosting Regressor (GBR), to predict corrosion inhibition efficiency (CIE). The developed model is integrated into a web-based application, enabling real-time, accurate CIE predictions. Results show GBR as the more precise model for predicting CIE, with low error rates. The streamlit-based web application offers a user-friendly platform, facilitating quick identification of suitable inhibitors. It is flexible, supporting analysis beyond corrosion inhibitors, and significantly enhances the efficiency of the evaluation process. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

Building-Integrated Photovoltaic(BIPV)on vertical façades is a potential PV application in today’s *** performance of BIPV on façades is significantly influenced by the façade *** tropical cities,the optimum façade orientation,in terms of maximum energy yield and daylight performance,cannot be simply determined,due to relatively symmetrical sun path throughout the *** study therefore aims to determine the optimum orientation for BIPV on tropical building faç*** achieve the objective,experiment,modelling,and computational simulation are conducted to evaluate the BIPV energy yield and to predict the indoor daylight performance in a scale-model building with a 105Wp monocrystalline silicon PV,facing each cardinal orienta-tion in Bandung,*** South orientation yields practically zero ASE_(1000,250),providing the best annual daylight performance,and yielding the most desirable value in four out of five daylight *** greatest annual energy yield is at the North orientation,providing 179-186 kWh(95%prediction interval)per year,but with larger uncertainty compared to that at the South,due to direct sunlight *** on three different objective functions,the South orientation is considered optimum for placing the BIPV panel on the prototype façade in the location.

The objective of this research is to design and develop an integrated landslide early detection system at Tower Number Eight, 150 kV Gianyar. The research is expected to result in the construction of a communication system based on LoRa technology that will serve to reduce the potential damage from landslides. In order to achieve this, several parameters must be considered as benchmarks. These include RSSI, SNR, BER and PDR. The device operates by monitoring changes in position, soil moisture and rainfall, and then transmitting the data via LoRa technology. At the sink, the data is recorded and monitored for RSSI, SNR, PDR and BER values. In the test, the source 1 node, situated 300 metres away, exhibited an RSSI value of -100 to -109 dBm and an SNR value of 6.75 to -6.7 in both sunny and rainy weather, with a PDR value of 100%. The source 2 node, situated 600 metres away, exhibited an RSSI value of -97 to -109 dBm and an SNR value of 8.5 to -11.75 dB, with a PDR value of 70 to 100%. It should be noted that the number of bits in the sensor data sent is always complete. This is evidenced by the bit error ratio (BER) value, which is always 0 on both source nodes. © 2024 IEEE.

The unique properties of TiO_(2)-sulfur(TiO_(2)-S)modified graphene nanocomposite electrode(GPE/TiO_(2)-S)in the electrochemical sensing of formaldehyde compound has been *** prepared TiO_(2)-S by hydrothermal method and modified the graphene nanocomposite electrode by applying electrochemical cyclic voltammetry(CV)*** TiO_(2)-S nanocomposite was characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD),while the GPE/TiO_(2)-S was examined by scanning electron microscopy(FESEM)and X-Ray fluorosense(XRF)***_(2)-S has a grain size of 19.32 *** surface morphology of the GPE/TiO_(2)-S nanocomposite shows a good,intact,and tightly porous structure with TiO_(2)-S covers the graphene *** content of optimized GPE/TiO_(2)-S electrodes is 41.5%of graphene,37.8%of TiO_(2),and 12.4%of sulfur that was prepared by mixing 1 g of TiO_(2)-S with 0.5 g of graphene and 0.3 mL *** GPE/TiO_(2)-S electrode produces a high anodic current(I_(pa))of 800μA and a high cathodic current(I_(pc))of-600μA at a scan rate of 0.1 V·s^(-1)using an electrolyte0.01 mol·L^(-1)K_3[Fe(CN)_6]solution containing 150 mg·L^(-1)*** limit of detection can reach as low as 9.7 mg·L^(-1)with stability with Horwitz ratio value as low as *** composite electrode also exhibits excellent slectivity properties by showing clear formaldehyde sugnal in the presence of high concentration of interfering ***/TiO_(2)-S electrode should find potential application of formaldehyde detection in food industries.

The Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) is widely utilized for accurate *** commonly applied method to obtain precise coordinate estimates is by implementing the relative positioning in network ***,this approach can be complex and ***,The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) offers freely available satellite orbit and clock correction products called Multi-GNSS Advanced Demonstration Tool for Orbit and Clock Analysis (MADOCA),which can enhance positioning accuracy through the precise point positioning (PPP) *** study focuses on evaluating PPP static mode positioning using MADOCA products and comparing the results with the highly precise relative positioning *** analyzing a network of 20 GNSS stations in Indonesia,we found that the PPP method using MADOCA products provided favorable positioning *** median discrepancies and the corresponding median absolute deviation (MAD) for easting,northing,and up components were estimated as 9±18 mm,10±9 mm,and 3±40 mm,*** results indicate that PPP with MADOCA products can be a reliable alternative for establishing Indonesia's horizontal control networks,particularly for orders 0,1,2,and 3,and for a broad spectrum of geoscience monitoring ***,considerations such as epoch transformations and seismic activities should be taken into account for accurate positioning applications that comply with the definition of the national reference framework.

Stunting in toddlers is a chronic nutritional issue that affects the physical and cognitive development of children, with serious long-term consequences such as reduced cognitive function and an increased risk of chronic diseases in adulthood. Therefore, early identification and prevention efforts for stunting are crucial. Classifying toddlers into categories of at-risk for stunting or not is essential to provide timely and appropriate interventions. This study employs data mining techniques using the decision tree algorithm to expedite the stunting detection process and improve the accuracy of nutritional status classification in children. The results indicate that the constructed decision tree model can classify children's nutritional status with an accuracy of 83.26%. The decision tree achieves high accuracy in classifying stunting in toddlers due to its ability to handle complex data and identify significant patterns within the data. © 2024 IEEE.
