Uncontrolled urban expansion resulting from urbanization has a disastrous impact on agricultural land. This situation is being experienced by the densely populated and fertile island Java in Indonesia. Remote sensing technologies have developed rapidly in recent years, including the creation of Google Earth Engine (GEE). Intensity analysis (IA) is increasingly being used to systematically and substantially analyze land-use/land-cover (LULC) change. As yet, however, no study of land conversion from agriculture to urban areas in Indonesia has adopted GEE and IA approaches simultaneously. Therefore, this study aims to monitor urban penetration to agricultural land in the north coastal region of West Java Province by applying both methods to two time intervals: 2003-2013 and 2013-2020. Landsat data and a robust random forest (RF) classifier available in GEE were chosen for producing LULC maps. Monitoring LULC change using GEE and IA has demonstrated reliable findings. The overall accuracy of Landsat image classification results for 2003, 2013, and 2020 were 88%, 87%, and 88%, respectively. IA outputs at interval levels for all categories showed that the annual change-of-area rate was higher during 2013-2020 than during 2003-2013. At the category level, IA results showed that the area of agricultural land experienced net losses in both periods, with net loss in 2013-2020 being 2.3 times greater than that in 2003-2013 (∼1,850 ha per year). In contrast, the built-up area made net gains in both periods, reaching almost twice as much in the second period as in the first (∼2,030 ha per year). The transition-level IA performed proved that agricultural land had been the primary target for the expansion of built-up areas. The most extensive spatial distribution of land conversion from agriculture to built-up area was concentrated in the regencies of Bekasi, Karawang, and Cirebon. Along with the increasing of infrastructure development in Indonesia especially in jepara, so the necessary of material also increase, for example: sand. Nowadays, muntilan is the sand that often be used in making infrastructure in the government because it is considered that it has the good quality, whereas in the other hand the river sand is also abundant, but the government perverted mintilan sand as the development material. River sand is usually used by the middle to lower county because the house because the price is cheaper than muntilan sand. After doing this research we hope that: can know the quality of the river sand if it is used in infeastructure, knowing the river sand in jepara that have the good quality, such as: keling sand, bangsri sand, The stages of this research are: preparation, sand inspection (mud content and organic faces, filter analysis, moister content and weight, and specific gravity), making spacimens based on SKSNI 03-6825-2002 ASTM C 305, making compressive strength test. The test result show that at 3,7,14,21,28 days old show that keling sand (93,2 kg/cm2), bangsri sand (135,2 kg/cm2). The use of river sand as the construction material by the government and community will have consequence on the balance kf muntilan sand and river sand. The specific treatment on the river sand will that quality that is almost same as muntilan sand. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

The effectiveness of Indonesia's fisheries policy to reduce illegal fishing

The sea has economic potential such as marine tourism, energy, maritime industry, marine transportation, marine building and services, and fisheries. Indonesia has fishery resources with high biodiversity and easily accessible (renewable resources). Indonesia's fishery production reached approximately 12.6 million tonnes, of which marine catch accounted for about 6.71 million tonnes, inland capture for 0.51 million tonnes and the rest is in aquacultures. In addition, Indonesia is facing the problem of illegal fishing by foreign fishing vessels from Thailand, Vietnam, China, Malaysia, Japan, Taiwan and Cambodia. Foreign fishing vessels conducting illegal fishing are not only found in the EEZ, but also in territorial and archipelagic waters. Based on the findings of this study, the illegal fishing policy has a positive impact by reducing illegal fishing activities in the short term and increasing fisheries stocks. However, negative impacts were also found, the national fisheries business has decreased by number, especially local fishermen business, so that fishermen are unable to optimize their capture fisheries activities. Some local fishermen benefit economically from illegal fishing, this is what causes illegal fishing activities to continue. The policies that have been implemented have not been optimal in ensuring that fishermen are more prosperous. A sovereign state not only owns the territory and defends it from foreign disturbances, but must realize the welfare of its people, including fishermen. The purpose of this research is to see the effectiveness of fisheries policies in Indonesia to tackle illegal fisheries and improve fishermen's welfare. Analysis of small island environmental carrying capacity in Panggang Island, Jakarta, Indonesia

To support continuity of life, information on the availability of natural resources is needed. Natural resources need in a region must not exceed their availability. Panggang Island is a small island with an area of 13.76 ha and a population density up to 4,388 people in 2019. The land use of the island is intended as a residential area. With a small area and dense population, the ability of the environment to support life in Panggang Island is concerning. This study aims to determine the carrying capacity of water and land in Panggang Island. Water carrying capacity analysis is carried out by comparing the amount of water resource availability with standard water needs. The Thornthwaite Mather method is applied to calculate the water resource availability. Land carrying capacity analysis is based on a comparison of the amount of actual residential land with minimum space requirements of each individual according to the Indonesian National Standard (SNI 03-1733-2004). The results showed that Panggang Island has a very low carrying capacity for water and land. The water and land carrying capacity index reaches 0.12 and 0.98 respectively. This shows that the demands of residential land and water in Panggang Island are higher than the resources.

The potential of coffee waste composting technology using microbial activators to reduce solid waste in the coffee industry

The coffee industry in Sidoarjo produces coffee waste as coffee ground, coffee husk, and coffee return with the solid waste generation of about 5044.3 Tons/year. The coffee waste characters resemble organic waste, so it has potential as a composted raw material. This study aims to determine the selected variation raw material composition from the coffee industry based on Indonesian National Standard (SNI) Number 10-7030-2004 and the recycle potency of the coffee industry solid waste using composting technology. The research variables are the modified composting method (open windrow composting and Bacary Italian) and the co-composting method. The result of this research for all treatments showed that the concentration range of pH value 6.92-9.54, moisture 34.78-66.60%, C-organic 17.75-33.82%, N 1.45-2.93%, C/N ratio 10-13, P2O5 0.13-0.31%, and K2O 0.89-2.89%. The selected variation raw material composition of bio compost based on the compliance to SNI 10-7030-2004, which is 1.5 kg coffee ground + 1.35 coffee return + 0.15 kg coffee husk + 3 mL EM4 (K10). Based on K10 as the selected variation raw material composition of bio compost, the coffee industry solid waste recyclable is coffee ground 0.64%, coffee husk 0.20% and returned coffee 100%.

Circular economy of bio compost from coffee waste to support sustainable development goals in alleviating poverty in communities around the Sidoarjo coffee industry

In 2016-2021, coffee consumption in Indonesia was predicted to increase by 120,000 tons, impacting the increase of coffee waste. Several large coffee industries in Indonesia are located in Taman District, Sidoarjo Regency. The character of the coffee skin waste contains 44.87% organic C; N of 1.69%; P of 0.18%; K 2.49%, and C / N ratio 10-14. This value indicates that the waste can be used as compost because it meets the criteria in SNI 19-7030-2004 concerning Compost from Organic Waste. This narrative review aims to determine the circular economy of bio compost from the coffee industry solid waste to support SDGs point 1 in alleviating poverty in communities around the Sidoarjo coffee industry. The research results showed bio compost I and II is the alternative product in the circular economy (W11). The coffee waste, coffee ground, coffee skin, and coffee returned collects waste in the circular economy (W10). The raw material composition of Bio compost I such as 1.5 kg coffee ground: 1.35 kg of coffee returned:0.15 kg coffee skin+3mL of EM4 and Bio compost II such as 4.6 kg SCG's:0. 4 kg coffee skin+5 ml EM4. In practice, the circular economy of bio compost I and II can involve Farmer Groups or Youth Organizations around the industry in Taman District, Sidoarjo Regency. Based on data 2020, the total members are 113 people, producing compost of 72,435.5 kg/month with a sales profit of IDR 36,217,750. This practice can support the first point of the SDGs, namely poverty alleviation for communities around the coffee industry. However, studies on the exact circular economy pattern of coffee waste in the Sidoarjo Regency are still needed.

The world's continuous demographic expansion has driven a growing demand for a stable food supply, making the agriculture sector a key foundation for sustainable food production. However, the widespread use of conventional fertilizers has resulted in significant environmental and economic drawbacks, including inefficient nutrient delivery and nutrient leaching. These challenges highlight the urgent need for innovative agricultural solutions. This article reviews the adverse impacts of conventional fertilizer use on ecosystems and discusses the transition to slow-release fertilizers (SRF) as a promising alternative. SRF offers more controlled nutrient release, reducing nutrient loss and improving efficiency compared to traditional fertilizers. The article examines different types of SRF, their mechanisms, advantages, limitations, and their potential to transform modern agriculture by addressing both environmental concerns and crop nutrient management. Key challenges, including high production costs and the use of non-biodegradable coatings, are addressed. This review highlights the potential of bio-based coatings as replacements for non-renewable petroleum-based materials in SRFs, promoting sustainable practices and reducing potential toxicity in agricultural applications. The evolution of SRFs into multifunctional fertilizers is also discussed, emphasizing their expanding roles beyond controlled nutrient release. © 2025 Elsevier Ltd

This paper write about UNP Extinc Metric. It is new approach and methods how to calculate extinc condition for wild animals especially bilih fish from Lake Singkarak. We introduce new criteria and ombine to seven categories from IUCN. Biodiesel represents a renewable and sustainable alternative to fossil fuels, offering notable environmental advantages such as reduced greenhouse gas emissions, lower toxicity, and biodegradability. However, its conventional production, primarily via the transesterification of vegetable oils or animal fats, faces considerable challenges, including high production costs, limited feedstock availability, energy intensive processes, and competition with food resources, all of which impede its large-scale implementation. This review critically evaluates the potential of emerging non-conventional feedstocks and production methods to address these limitations and enhance the overall feasibility of biodiesel. Alternative feedstocks such as waste cooking oil, lignocellulosic biomass, and microalgae are highlighted for their abundance, cost effectiveness, and minimal competition with food production, with microalgae particularly notable due to their rapid growth and high lipid content, making them a promising third generation source. Concurrently, advanced production technologies including enzymatic catalysis, supercritical fluids, microwave-assisted, ultrasound-assisted, and photothermal transesterification are examined for their capacity to increase reaction efficiency, reduce energy consumption, and process low quality feedstocks. Noteworthy advancements, such as microwave assisted systems that reduce reaction time by over 99 % and achieve biodiesel yields exceeding 96 % under ambient conditions, underscore the potential for industrial scale application. By comparing conventional and non-conventional approaches, this review underscores the pivotal role of innovation in overcoming technical and economic barriers, offering a comprehensive synthesis of recent developments to inform future research, industrial practices, and policy initiatives aimed at fostering a more sustainable biodiesel industry.

Energy in Indonesia is increasing rapidly every year in line with economic involvement, and human growth that is getting more and more energy is not fulfilled every year. Indonesia is among the most energy users because of its population; this is what drives the government to accelerate the use of renewable energy such as solar. This is related to its use, which can help many people who live in cities and remote areas such as; Electricity in households, public facilities, offices, electricity is said to be the most environmentally friendly. This research was conducted in Central Java by using descriptive qualitative methods and using research and development (R&D) methods. The technique used in this study is a qualitative expressive analysis technique. The resultant solution is to be able to meet the increasing electricity needs of the community, the use of renewable energy in the city that does not hurt the environment. This research produces renewable energy that can be used as a solution to solving the electrical energy crisis at an affordable cost and can increase the independence of the community so that it does not depend on government electricity supply and improve environmentally-friendly behavior.
