Weather prediction system and recommendation of plant varieties as an effort to minimize harvest failure with android-based Backpropagation Artificial Neural Networks

Based on Malang Regency agriculture data in 2017 presented by the Head of the Agriculture and Food Crops and Horticulture Office (DPTPH), there was a 2.5% decrease in yields. One hectare of paddy land can produce 7.71 tons during normal weather, but currently only produces 6.9 tons per hectare. Three farmers' groups in Malang Regency (2018), are of the opinion that the current weather greatly influences crop failure. Weather prediction used so far using conventional benchmarks for planting, is no longer relevant to current reality. These estimates are often incorrect, resulting in crop failures, which have an impact on the farmer's economy. This study aims to make the application of weather prediction systems and recommendations for suitable planting varieties based on data on temperature, humidity, time of sun exposure, wind speed, and rainfall using Backpropagation ANN method. Data used for Karangploso District weather prediction from 2009-2018. While the variables used in the application of Backpropagation ANN: temperature, humidity, time of sun exposure, wind speed, and rainfall. For output, the prediction of rainfall in the next 12 months and planting of varieties in accordance with the predicted rainfall, OPT and land type. From the calculation results of this application the MSE error value of 0.0299 is obtained.

Environmental assessment of a small power plant based on palm kernel shell gasification

A small power plant based on biomass gasification technology is attractive to provide electricity to many remote areas without fossil fuel access because biomass is locally available and contributes to net-zero carbon emissions in the terms of a greenhouse gas component. Palm kernel shell is a potential biomass in Indonesia to provide energy needs. It is available in scattered areas that are economical for a small-scale power plant operation up to 200 kW. The gasification technology converts the shell into combustible gases, which are also known as producer gases with carbon monoxide and hydrogen as the main components for fuelling a gas generator set resulting in carbon dioxide and water in the flue gas. Although palm kernel shell considered carbon-neutral, a power plant based on biomass gasification also emits CO2 indirectly as a result of the fossil fuel combustion during shell generation in a palm oil mill, handling and transportation from the mill to the power plant. A power plant based on the palm kernel shell gasification system produces greenhouse gases and solid residue as char and tarry components in the producer gas. This assessment examined the global warming potential level of a 5-kW power plant based on palm kernel gasification technology using a Gate-to-Gate approach to develop system improvement scenarios. All carbon dioxide emissions were predicted with an openLCA database of Environmental Footprint (MID-point indicator). The mass and energy balance calculations resulted in the amount of generated char. A laboratory experiment was conducted to observe tar content in the producer gas. It was found that the power plant emits 1.69 kg CO2 eq/kWh, produces 0.33 kg char/kWh and the producer gas contains 2.70 × 10−4 kg tar/kWh. The study of Area Infiltration Rate by Using Biopori Holes as an Effort to Reduce Water Level and Groundwater Conservation

The expansion of land development for settlement and other infrastructure has impact for lessen of green open space that serves to absorb rainwater. Accordingly to that, there is a need of effort to increase the absorbtion rate of rainwater into the ground; one of the methods is using biopori holes. The area that uses as a sample to observe the infiltration rate using biopori holes is Kopelma Darussalam, Banda Aceh. The aim of this study is to measure the infiltration rate before and after the application of biopori holes, find out the amount of holes that required, discover the differences of ground water level every 2, 5, and 10 years return period and find out the amount of water that absorbed to ground water. The data which uses to calculate the water level is the annual maximum daily rainfall, land area under forest cover and texture, and infiltration rate. Meanwhile, the data which uses in order to calculate the volume of water infiltrated into the soil in each month is monthly rainfall data, land area which classified by the cover and texture and infiltration rate. Inundation height at annual maximum rainfalll plan for 2, 5, and 10 years return period with using 100, 160 and 400 holes for each 100 m2 is lower from 9.01% to 77.43% compared to not using biopori holes. In addition, the amount of water that infiltrated after using biopori holes is increasing up to 4120 m3 for each month.

Identifying cues to contagious disease is critical for effectively tracking and defending against interpersonal infection threats. People hold lay beliefs about the types of sensory information most relevant for identifying whether others are sick with transmissible illnesses. Are these beliefs universal, or do they vary along cultural and ecological dimensions? Participants in 58 countries (N = 19,217) judged how effective, and how likely they were to use, cues involving each of the five major sensory modalities in an imagined social interaction during a flu outbreak. Belief patterns were strongly consistent across countries (sight > audition > touch > smell > taste), suggesting a largely universal conceptualization of the role of sensory information for interpersonal respiratory disease detection. Results also support a safe senses hypothesis, with perceivers reporting that they would use senses that function at a distance—and thus reduce pathogen transmission risk—more than would be expected given participants’ beliefs as to the efficacy of these senses for disease detection. Where societal variation did emerge, it was captured by a cohesive set of socio-ecological factors, including human development, latitude, pathogen prevalence, and population density. Together, these findings reveal a shared lens through which contagious respiratory disease is assessed, one that prioritizes minimizing risk to perceivers, and may offer leverage for designing interventions to improve public health. © 2025 Elsevier Inc.

Design and implementation of multichannel EMG for upper extremity myoelectric signal acquisition using IIR filter

This study aimed at designing and implementing a multichannel EMG based on Infinite Impulse Response (IIR) filter and then compare its performance with the standard EMG devices. Hence, the design of this multichannel EMG system consists of two parts: hardware and software. The hardware comprises instrumentation amplifier and NI DAQ USB 6009 as data acquisition device, while the software is composed of myoelectric signal processing (e.g. filtering, rectifying, and smoothing) and interface signal on personal computer (PC) using LabVIEW programming. To test the device, two procedures were performed, there were instrumentation test and performance test of the EMG device. The instrumentation test resulted in the gain value of instrumentation amplifier at 12.794 times with linearity of 0.9998. Moreover, the response of implemented Butterworth IIR filter is compatible with the design at the cut off frequency of 30-400 Hz and 50 Hz. For the performance test, quantitative and qualitative data recorded from normal male subjects aged of 20-40 were compared. The result showed that EMG prototype work as well as EMG comparison with relative error percentage for each value parameter of maximum, minimum, and average amplitude signals at 14.05885 %, 14.82683 %, and 14.0411 % respectively. Furthermore, the features of recorded signal for similar simultaneous movements using EMG prototype also share identical features with the recorded signal using standard EMG.

PID control design and implementation for laboratory scale infant incubator temperature using FOPDT model

Premature babies have difficulty for regulating their body temperature because weight deficiency. Infant incubator that equipped by temperature control system can support thermoregulation process in baby body. This paper explained design of temperature control system using Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) controller and its implementation to the laboratory scale infant incubator. The transfer function of infant incubator was obtained by step test method using First-Order and Dead Time (FOPDT) model where process gain K = 0.29, settling time Ts = 18s and dead time Td = 1. Ziegler-Nichols (ZN) and Direct Synthesis (DS) PID coefficients tuning method was used is this experiment and it resulted for ZN tunning method, proportional gain Kc = 20.14, integration time Ti = 0.2 and derivative time Td = 0.05 and DS tunning method proportional gain Kc = 5, integration time Ti = 18. PID controller was implemented to the Personal Computer (PC) with LabVIEW 2013 programing language, LabJack U3 HV data acquisition device and LM-35 temperature sensor. Set point of temperature that required was 350C with t and 250C initial temperature. The controller performance that resulted by this experiment were for ZN tunning method 38 minutes for settling time while DS tunning method resulted 12 minutes for setling time.

Prospective area of Solok geothermal lies in step over transtensional between two segments, Suliti and Siulak, Sumatra faults. Geological structure in this prospect area shows structural pattern controlled by 'oblique divergent strike-slip fault system' (releasing bend) as a proceed of embraced movement from Sumatra fault and establishes 'dilation zone' between those two segments, forming negative flower structure in direction of NW-SE and N-S. The pattern of geological structure is predicted to control the availability of solok geothermal system which in this case related to presence of surface manifestation. Surface manifestation indicates good permeability zone that can be used as flow path of geothermal fluid from reservoir.

This study examined the effects of powder types on capillary pumping performance and wettability of wick samples. The raw material used are molecular sieve and copper powder with grain size of 80-100 microns and 177-200 microns respectively. Wick samples were produced by sintering with two shapes of powder grain comprised spherical and irregular shapes. Tests were carried out to determine the microstructure of the sample, capillary pumping amount and wettability. The test results showed that the grain type and grain size of powder could affect the roughness of the samples, of which, consequently, could also influence their wettability and capillary pumping amount. Proposed grain size and shape of the molecular sieve and copper powder are potential to be considered as wick alternatives for heat pipe application.

River Water Pollution Indication in The Cimanuk River Downstream, Indramayu District

The Cimanuk River downstream is part of local community activities in the watershed. Uncontrolled waste disposal from these activities will have any negative impact on the water quality of the river and resulting polluted river. This study aims to analyze and assess water pollution in the Cimanuk River downstream. Analyze water quality of the Cimanuk River downstream based on the standard of Government Regulation of the Republic of Indonesia (INA), Regulation of the Governor of West Java (WJP), United States Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA), and Department of Environment (DEO). The pollution index method used to assess the water in the Cimanuk River downstream from years 2015 to 2017. Water sampling site of Cimanuk River downstream was at Kenanga, Bojongsari, Sindang, and Paoman in Indramayu District, West Java Province. This study found that five parameters (Temperature, TSS, BOD, COD, and DO) do not meet the water quality standards with the value of Temperature (30.91±0.68 °C), TSS (62±47.75 mg/L), BOD (21.82±27.42 mg/L), COD (42.29±47.05 mg/L), and DO (4.06±2.45 mg/L). The impact of water pollution causes a decrease in water quality annually. Pollution index value of the Cimanuk River downstream ranging from 1.40 to 17.06. The water quality status of Cimanuk River downstream has been changing from slightly polluted to highly polluted. River water pollution indication due to uncontrollable waste disposal from domestic waste, batik industry, crackers industry, regional public hospital, car wash, traditional and modern market waste along the Cimanuk River downstream. Therefore, a strict environmental law enforcement from the local government to polluters needed to control water pollution in the Cimanuk River downstream in the future.

Water Quality Assessment of Cimanuk River in West Java Using STORET Method

Cimanuk River is the second largest river in West Java after the Citarum River. It is many used as a source of raw water in the Regional Drinking Water Company (PDAM). However, water quality of the Cimanuk River considered polluted. This research aims to assess water quality of the Cimanuk River based on the water quality standards of World Health Organization (WHO), United States Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA), Environmental Quality Standard (EQS), and Regulation of the Governor of West Java (WJP) Class 1. Water sampling stations of Cimanuk River at Sukatani, Boyongbong, Sukamantri, Tomo, Monjot, and Kertasmaya. The STORET method used to assess the water in the Cimanuk River from years 2013 to 2017. Base on ten parameters, this study found that the Cimanuk River is not meet the water quality standards with the value of TSS (120,93±99,06 mg/L), DO (6,71±0,96 mg/L), BOD (7,43±3,28 mg/L), COD (19,70±11,77), NH3 (0,43±0,33 mg/L), NO3 (4,75±4,19 mg/L), PO4 (0,66±0,28 mg/L), and Total Coliform (66600±57415 MPN/100mL). The degradation of the water quality in the Cimanuk River indicated by the decreasing STORET score. STORET score of the Cimanuk River ranging from -36 to -120. The water quality status of the Cimanuk River has heavily polluted. Water pollution in the Cimanuk River is a threat to the sustainability of water resources. Nowadays, the Cimanuk River is not suitable for the drinking water source. However, it is feasible to irrigate agricultural land. Therefore, an increase in collaboration between local communities, regional government, and private sectors is needed to conserve the Cimanuk River.
