Vertical Greenery System as the Passive Design Strategy for Mitigating Urban Heat Island in Tropical Area: A Comparative Field Measurement Between Green Facade and Green Wall

During the last decade, greenery aspect in the building envelope starts to increase their presence in the building design. Vertical greenery system became the one of alternatives that potential to energy-saving in the building. However, in tropical area, researches related to vertical greenery system are enigmatic since reducing heat in tropical area are crutial for maintaining space in comfort condition. In this study, a comparative thermal analysis between green facade and green wall will present. A model called house miniature set up with climbing plans as model of green facade. While for green wall, data measurement was conducted in the office building with green wall as building envelope. The results showed a high potential for energy savings during peak time in the afternoon for green wall (1.5%) and green facade (1.3%) in comparison to the bare wall. While for interior facade are 2.6% for green wall and 2.2% for green facade. Effect of vertical greenery also found in the outdoor air temperature around greenery system. Results show at the hottest time of the day, the green wall and green facade reduced outdoor temperatures by 3.0°C and 1.2°C, respectively. Based on the analysis, compared to green facade, the cooling effect produced by green wall is faster. Possibility, the substrate properties in the green wall also help to decrease temperature. The reduction can be due to the foliage density as the leaves of green wall is denser than leaves in green facade.

The first evidence for the Higgs boson decay to a Z boson and a photon is presented, with a statistical significance of 3.4 standard deviations. The result is derived from a combined analysis of the searches performed by the ATLAS and CMS Collaborations with proton-proton collision datasets collected at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) from 2015 to 2018. These correspond to integrated luminosities of around 140 fb−1 for each experiment, at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. The measured signal yield is 2.2±0.7 times the standard model prediction, and agrees with the theoretical expectation within 1.9 standard deviations.

Analysis of piperine content in cabe jawa extracts (Piper retrofractum Vahl) using UV spectrophotometry and HPLC

Cabe Jawa (Piper retrofractum Vahl) is an important commodity for herbal industries in Indonesia. One of the bioactive compounds in this herb is piperine. In this study, concentration of piperine in Cabe Jawa was analysed using HPLC and UV spectrophotometry methods. Cabe Jawa samples were prepared using two different methods. The first sample (S1) was dried from fresh Piper retrofractum, while the second sample (S2) was dried from boiled Piper retrofractum. Both samples were extracted using Soxhlet, followed by solvent evaporation to obtain the concentrated extract. Piperine concentration was measured using UV spectrophotometry and HPLC via internal standard method. The yields of extract of S1 and S2 were 23.0% and 22.1%, respectively. Piperine UV spectrophotometry standard curve equation was y = 0.1107*(X)-0.1578, R2 = 0.9999, whereas HPLC standard curve equation was y = 105916*(X) + 28100.9, R2 = 0.9978. Piperine concentration in S1 and S2 extracts quantified using UV spectrophotometry were 19.0% and 18.1%., respectively. The values for S were much higher compared to values obtained by HPLC, which were 6.8% (S1) and 7.3% (S2). Therefore, the use of UV spectrophotometry for analysis of piperine is not recommended due to the interference of other compounds, which are absorbed at the same wavelength.

Urban forests are critical for climate adaptation and liveability, but effective irrigation management—key to their sustainability—remains poorly documented at the global scale. This study addresses this critical knowledge gap by analysing urban forest irrigation practices across 109 cities in 21 countries, offering one of the first global assessments of irrigation approaches, challenges, and opportunities. Using survey data, we examined water sources, irrigation frequency, constraints, and enabling conditions. Our results show that weather conditions were the leading factor influencing irrigation scheduling in 44 % of cities, while 56 % reported no formal water restrictions. Despite the importance of water conservation, 55 % of respondents reported having no water usage monitoring systems, and 73 % lacked financial incentives to promote water-efficient irrigation. A large majority (80 %) did not use recycled wastewater, and 58 % did not conduct water quality testing. Only 15 % of cities regularly used water-efficient irrigation technologies, and 47 % had no plans to implement smart systems. Over half (56 %) rated their current irrigation practices as only moderately successful. Budget constraints and infrastructure limitations were the most frequently reported challenges, followed by climate change-related concerns. While environmental variables such as mean annual temperature and irrigation need influenced specific practices, local governance and institutional actions had stronger effects. Cities in the Global South reported distinct strategies and constraints compared to those in the Global North. Our findings provide actionable insights for climate-resilient urban water strategies and underscore the need for targeted policies, capacity-building, and efficient technologies to enhance urban forest sustainability worldwide. © 2025 The Author(s)

Silica-calcium phosphate composite (SCPC) and carbonate apatite (CO3Ap) have several superior properties as they are bioactive, bioresorbable and elicit excellent tissue response. The CO3Ap surface layer and hydrated silica developed on the surface of the SCPC may be a key factor for achieving dentin regeneration. On the other hand, calcium hydroxide [Ca(OH)2] have antibacterial properties and biocompatible to dental tissue. Therefore, the combination of CO3Ap, SCPC, and Ca(OH)2 in a bone cement may be favorable as a pulp capping agent that enhances pulp tissue formation and dentin regeneration. The aim of the present study is to synthesize and characterize a novel SCPC-CO3Ap cement for pulp capping application in dentistry. The cement is composed of dicalcium phosphate anhydrous (DCPA), vaterite, Ca(OH)2 and SCPC. The set cement was further characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR). The microstructure of set cement was examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and the mechanical strength was evaluated by diametral tensile strength (DTS). The FT-IR analyses revealed that the additional bands of carbonate were detected in each sample. The SEM samples of set cement showing more compact surface microstructure of group II compared to other groups. Furthermore, the combination of 5% SCPC and 5% Ca(OH)2 in the cement facilitated a compact structure with superior mechanical strength. The novel SCPC-CO3Ap cement has great potential to be used for pulp capping to facilitate dentin regeneration. © 2017 Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

Gingivitis is considered high prevalence since nearly 75-90% of the world population suffers gingivitis in moderate category. The development of biomaterial in dentistry is divided into synthetic biomaterial and tissue engineering biomaterial includes scaffold engineering. Scaffold biomaterial engineering technique includes the development of tissue engineering and cell. The aim of this study is to determine the best compositions of collagen-chitosan scaffold by adding glycerol, marked by its mechanic characteristic. The synthesis process of the collagen-chitosan-glycerol scaffold is by freeze-dry method to form pores in the scaffold. The characterization of the synthesis was conducted through morphology test, tensile test, toxicity test, swelling test, and biodegradation test. Morphology test results in 50.89 - 143.5 μm pore size and thickness value of 412.0 - 514.9 mm which are appropriate for periodontal applications, especially gingivitis. The tensile test result is 0.46 MPa - 2.36 MPa and the highest value was seen on the variation of 0.46 with 2.36 MPa tensile strength value which is close to the value of UTS for periodontal. While the swelling test results in 1354.04 - 413.9%. Based on the characterization results in this study, the collagen-chitosan scaffold with the addition of glycerol is a potent periodontal scaffold candidate, especially gingivitis.

Analysis backpropagation methods with neural network for prediction of children's ability in psychomotoric

A good age in optimizing aspects of development is at the age of 4-6 years, namely with psychomotor development. Psychomotor is broader, more difficult to monitor but has a meaningful value for the child's life because it directly affects his behavior and deeds. Therefore, there is a problem to predict the child's ability level based on psychomotor. This analysis uses backpropagation method analysis with artificial neural network to predict the ability of the child on the psychomotor aspect by generating predictions of the child's ability on psychomotor and testing there is a mean squared error (MSE) value at the end of the training of 0.001. There are 30% of children aged 4-6 years have a good level of psychomotor ability, excellent, less good, and good enough.

Assessing scenic beauty of culture-based landscapes in North Toraja Regency

Toraja is a popular tourist destination in the sacred highlands of South Sulawesi, Indonesia. It has been widely known for its unique traditional culture. The combination of nature, agriculture, and culture is landscape beauty as area potential tourism. However, the management of tourism objects and attractions has not given much attention to the quality of the landscape aesthetic. This paper shows the results of scenic beauty assessment of culture-based landscape in the North Toraja Regency. Field survey and analysis using Scenic Beauty Estimation (SBE) were used as the method of this research. The results showed that the SBE score represented by 40 landscape pictures ranged from -42 to 234. The landscape that achieved the highest SBE score of 234 was Lolai To'tombi, while the landscape with the lowest SBE score of -42 was Limbong Agrotourism. The preferred landscape has a unique characteristic, in order, having a harmonious blend of hardscape elements and vegetation, and the presence of green open space or blue sky in the landscape. Managers of tourism objects need to consider the character of the landscape in developing tourism objects and attractions to improve the quality of landscape beauty.

High-momentum two-particle correlations are a useful tool for studying jet-quenching effects in the quark-gluon plasma. Angular correlations between neutral-pion triggers and charged hadrons with transverse momenta in the range 4–12 GeV/c and 0.5–7 GeV/c, respectively, have been measured by the PHENIX experiment in 2014 for Au+Au collisions at sNN=200 GeV. Suppression is observed in the yield of high-momentum jet fragments opposite the trigger particle, which indicates jet suppression stemming from in-medium partonic energy loss, while enhancement is observed for low-momentum particles. The ratio and differences between the yield in Au+Au collisions and p+p collisions, IAA and ΔAA, as a function of the trigger-hadron azimuthal separation, Δϕ, are measured for the first time at the BNL Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. These results better quantify how the yield of low-pT associated hadrons is enhanced at wide angle, which is crucial for studying energy loss as well as medium-response effects.

Increasing students’ problem-solving ability on the pressure concept through model-eliciting activities (MEAs)

Learning in the 21st century is directed at High Order Thinking Skills, one of which is problem-solving. Students still have difficulty understanding and solving problems. Model-Eliciting Activities (MEAs) is a model that helps solve problems with structured and systematic modeling. This research aims to determine whether there are a difference and the magnitude of the increase in students’ problem-solving ability before and after the implementation of MEAs learning on the pressure concept. This research was conducted at SMPN 1 Kamal. The research sample is 32 students of class VIII E. The instrument for collecting data uses an essay test based on Polya’s problem-solving steps. The data analysis technique used paired sample T-test with SPSS 20 software to determine whether there is a difference in students’ problem-solving ability and the N-gain score test to measure the magnitude of improvement in students’ problem-solving ability. Based on the results of data analysis using paired sample T-test obtained a significance value of 0.000 and a value of T count 11.555 with T table 2.040. From these results, it is known that the null hypothesis is rejected. While the results of the N-gain score obtained a value of 0.44 with a medium category. The results of this research can be concluded that there is a difference in students’ problem-solving ability before and after the implementation of MEAs learning on the pressure concept and improvement of students’ problem-solving ability with the medium category. So, MEAs learning is able to train and help students to understand and solve problems in the pressure concept.
