Petrological and geochemical characteristics of pumiceous tephra deposit from Slamet stratovolcano, Central Java, Indonesia: Explosive period of the most differentiated magma of a basaltic stratovolcano

We reported detailed investigation of the pumiceous deposits reside in the western part of Slamet Volcano that are found as both primary and secondary product. Pyroclastic fall, flow and surge deposits represent those of the primary products, whereas lahar and fluvial deposits represent those of the secondary products. The tephra fall deposits are separated by pyroclastic flow and surge deposits as typical of sub-plinian to plinian eruption type. The secondary deposits of fluvial deposits occurred in between the primary deposits indicating repose time of the explosive events, whereas lahar deposits occurred as the youngest deposits concluding these pumiceous events. Petrographic observation show that pumice deposit is extremely vesicular with various bubble sizes, vitrophyric in texture, and contains subhedral phenocryst of plagioclase, orthopyroxene, clinopyroxene, opaque mineral and minor biotite. Chemical compositions of major and trace elements were obtained using ICP-MS-AES. SiO2 range from 58,7 to 63,9 wt.% and classified as andesite to dacite with LOI number range from -0,04 to 3,06. Ratios of incompatible elements (e.g. Ba/Zr, Rb/Zr, Zr/Nb, and Hf/Nb) consistently separate rocks of Old and Young Slamet. In these ratios, pumiceous samples are plotted within the range of Young Slamet implying for genetic relationship. These explosive events are “unique” considering typical recent basaltic activities of Slamet volcano and need to be carefully considered in the volcanic hazard mitigation.

The uniqueness of an area gives a lasting impression for special-interest tourists, which accelerate economic development. Therefore, the understanding local potencial become an embryo for the development of community-based tourism. Beside jewel craft, as the main potency, Kampung Jayengan also has strong potential in religion-based culinary and cultural traditions which are centered in Darussalam Mosque. In the future it could be a new tourism destination as part of the development of Surakarta as Creative Industrial-based City. This study aimed to identify the specific characteristics of the region as a basis for the development of community-based industrial tourism kampung.

Landscape Potential Analysis for Ecotourism Destination in the Resort Ii Salak Mountain, Halimun-Salak National Park

The Resort II Salak Mountain has variety of landscape potential for created as ecotourism destination, especially the potential of the waterfall (curug) and sulphur crater (Kawah Ratu). The aim of this study was to identify and analyze the potential resources of the landscape to be created as ecotourism destination, Resort II Salak Mountain. This research was conducted through two phases: 1) identification of the attractions location that have potential resources for ecotourism destination, and 2) analysis of the level of potential resource of the landscape in each location using Analysis of Tourist Attraction Operational Destination (ATAOD). The study showed Resort II Salak Mountain has many ecotourism objects which have been used for ecotourism activities, such as hot spring baths, Curug Cigamea, Curug Ngumpet, Curug Seribu, Curug Pangeran, Curug Muara, Curug Cihurang, Kawah Ratu, camping ground, Curug Kondang and Curug Alami. The location of all waterfalls –curug, spread widely in the core zone for ecotourism. In the other hand, camping ground is located in the business zone, while Kawah Ratu is located in the natural forest, which is included in the buffer zone of Halimun-Salak National Park (HSNP). The result showed that the ecotourism objects with the highest potential value are Kawah Ratu, Curug Seribu, Curug Muara, Curug Kondang and Curug Ngumpet.

Impacts are highly dynamic events. Quasi-static test- and data reduction methods can thus not be used to characterize the response under impact, especially when the examined material is strain-rate sensitive. Delamination is a dominant failure mechanism in composite materials and the role played by the strain-rate in the material's integrity has to be studied under realistic load conditions. This work presents a new experimental setup designed to investigate the delamination process in mode-I when the specimen endures an impact load. A contactless optical technique is used to track the position and rotation of the specimen during the test. A finite element model is developed with the aim of correlating the features of the dynamic response with the value of fracture toughness. This experimental-numerical approach shows the importance of the inertia effects, which are clearly reflected on the speed of delamination. An adequate data reduction process is required to get a reliable value of the fracture toughness. © 2016, European Conference on Composite Materials, ECCM. All rights reserved.

A novel method for the geometrical generation of Representative Unit Cells (RUC) of textile composites is proposed. The advanced technique retains the advantage of an analytical formulation from the current state-of-the-art but introduces variable asymmetric yarn cross sectional shapes and paths which can be tailored to the yarn shapes and cross sectional areas as measured from in-situ microscopy. In this way, interpenetrations and incorrect fibre volume fractions, which occur when using traditional RUC generation techniques [1, 2], are avoided. In addition, meshing becomes easier and no stiffness corrections are required. The new technique is validated through a comparison of the novel RUC to: 1) a RUC with constant cross section;and 2) a RUC constructed from direct in-situ micro computed X-ray tomographic measurements of a carbon-epoxy weave. The technique is also an excellent alternative for advanced unit cell generation techniques based on production process simulations, e.g.[3], in the case that the production process is unknown or an analytic periodic geometry is required. © 2016, European Conference on Composite Materials, ECCM. Although Periodic Boundary Conditions (PBCs) have been extensively used in finite elements to analyze unit cell models of composites, there are few reported investigations using explicit dynamic simulations. While different formulations and implementations of PBCs do not affect the results of quasi-static simulations solved by an implicit solver, they have an impact on the results of dynamic simulations solved by an explicit solver. A simple benchmark with a cubic unit cell of an isotropic linear elastic material is used to compare the results of different scenarios, which have different formulations and implementation of PBCs. The stress-strain curves under simple uniaxial tension shows that, in some scenarios, the explicit analyses do not follow the expected linear elastic behavior. These unexpected results are remarkable when the characteristic length of the model is in the range of few microns. This work encapsulates the relevant features of the different formulations and implementations of PBCs, and indicates in which scenarios the PBCs must be carefully applied. © 2016, European Conference on Composite Materials, ECCM. Infections can lead to persistent symptoms and diseases such as shingles after varicella zoster or rheumatic fever after streptococcal infections. Similarly, severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS‑CoV‑2) infection can result in long coronavirus disease (COVID), typically manifesting as fatigue, pulmonary symptoms and cognitive dysfunction. The biological mechanisms behind long COVID remain unclear. We performed a genome-wide association study for long COVID including up to 6,450 long COVID cases and 1,093,995 population controls from 24 studies across 16 countries. We discovered an association of FOXP4 with long COVID, independent of its previously identified association with severe COVID-19. The signal was replicated in 9,500 long COVID cases and 798,835 population controls. Given the transcription factor FOXP4’s role in lung physiology and pathology, our findings highlight the importance of lung function in the pathophysiology of long COVID. © The Author(s) 2025.

This article employs the strain energy finite element method to study the anisotropic damping of unidirectional fiber reinforced composites in micro-scale. The simulations have been performed on a Representative Volume Element composed of randomly distributed glass fibers in an epoxy polymer matrix. The models include also Periodic Boundary Conditions. Influence of the fiber volume fraction on the loss factors of a unidirectional fiber reinforced composite is investigated. At the end of the article, using a simplified model, effect of a homogeneous and isotropic hard or soft interphases on the loss factors of a composite is studied. © 2016, European Conference on Composite Materials, ECCM. Background: Hearing loss affects access to spoken language, which can affect cognition and development, and can negatively affect social wellbeing. We present updated estimates from the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) study on the prevalence of hearing loss in 2019, as well as the condition's associated disability. Methods: We did systematic reviews of population-representative surveys on hearing loss prevalence from 1990 to 2019. We fitted nested meta-regression models for severity-specific prevalence, accounting for hearing aid coverage, cause, and the presence of tinnitus. We also forecasted the prevalence of hearing loss until 2050. Findings: An estimated 1·57 billion (95% uncertainty interval 1·51–1·64) people globally had hearing loss in 2019, accounting for one in five people (20·3% [19·5–21·1]). Of these, 403·3 million (357·3–449·5) people had hearing loss that was moderate or higher in severity after adjusting for hearing aid use, and 430·4 million (381·7–479·6) without adjustment. The largest number of people with moderate-to-complete hearing loss resided in the Western Pacific region (127·1 million people [112·3–142·6]). Of all people with a hearing impairment, 62·1% (60·2–63·9) were older than 50 years. The Healthcare Access and Quality (HAQ) Index explained 65·8% of the variation in national age-standardised rates of years lived with disability, because countries with a low HAQ Index had higher rates of years lived with disability. By 2050, a projected 2·45 billion (2·35–2·56) people will have hearing loss, a 56·1% (47·3–65·2) increase from 2019, despite stable age-standardised prevalence. Interpretation: As populations age, the number of people with hearing loss will increase. Interventions such as childhood screening, hearing aids, effective management of otitis media and meningitis, and cochlear implants have the potential to ameliorate this burden. The global network of gravitational-wave observatories now includes five detectors, namely LIGO Hanford, LIGO Livingston, Virgo, KAGRA, and GEO 600. These detectors collected data during their third observing run, O3, composed of three phases: O3a starting in 2019 April and lasting six months, O3b starting in 2019 November and lasting five months, and O3GK starting in 2020 April and lasting two weeks. In this paper we describe these data and various other science products that can be freely accessed through the Gravitational Wave Open science Center at https://***. The main data set, consisting of the gravitational-wave strain time series that contains the astrophysical signals, is released together with supporting data useful for their analysis and documentation, tutorials, as well as analysis software packages. © 2023.
