This paper presents the analysis of recent research on mobile learning and usability areas, applying a systematic mapping study. It also presents the main focus adopted by each publication, the types of mobile device and operative systems. The aim is also to understand the tendencies and needs in the fields of design and evaluation of the m-learning systems. Results demonstrate that research in the area has grown significantly since the 2012, and due to the recent boom of mobile devices in education, we believe that the number of studies will continue to grow in the following years. Also we identify a necessity when we see that not all the mlearning applications have used usability tests, we did not find guidelines or frameworks to evaluate them either. With this results and tendencies, we propose the creation of an evaluation framework for m-learning applications, considering pedagogical usability and user interface usability, to improve the quality of mlearning applications.

Various innovations have been identified in assistive technology for the visually impaired. One of these innovations are systems that present feedback and information in a tactile format. These tactile systems have the potential to help the visually impaired, but there is little attention to how it can be combined with other assistive technology. In this research, we present a set of user requirements for tactile systems, focusing on the needs of the visually impaired. This is done by telephone, personal, and group interviews. As a result, we identify three themes related to the use of non-visual tactile assistive devices for blind persons: 1) context of use, 2) trust issues, and 3) user interaction. Our recommendations include focusing on a devices that solve very specific mobility problems, being transparent with users about system status such as battery life and accuracy, and limiting output to prevent overload.

Sharing data is gaining importance in recent years due to proliferation of social media and a growing tendency of governments to gain citizens' trust through being transparent. Data dissemination, however, increases chance of compromising privacy sensitive data, which undermines trust of data subjects (e.g., users and citizens). Data disseminators are morally, ethically, and legally responsible for any misuse of the disseminated data. Therefore, privacy enhancement techniques are often used to prevent unsavory disclosure of personal data. Data recipients, nevertheless, are sometimes able to derive (part of) privacy sensitive information by, for example, fusing the shared data with other data. This can be considered as a sort of data misuse. In this contribution, we investigate how having a feedback from data recipients to data disseminators is instrumental for detecting such data misuses (i.e., privacy breaches). We also elaborate on using feedback for defining and deriving context-dependent privacy-preferences of data disseminators. In this case, feedback acts as a means of privacy prevention. We provide a categorization of existing feedback based solutions and, in addition, describe our implementation of a feedback-based data dissemination solution in an eGovernment setting. Finally, we elaborate on the importance of real-time partial feedback mechanisms, as a rising and promising solution direction for preserving privacy. Copyright 2014 ACM.

The product line engineering approach is a promising concept to identify and manage reuse in a structured and efficient way and is even applied for the development of safety critical embedded systems. Managing the complexity of variability and addressing functional safety at the same time is challenging and is not yet solved. Variability management is an enabler to both establish traceability and making necessary information visible for safety engineers. We identify a set of requirements for such a method and evaluate existing variability management methods. We apply the most promising method to an industrial case and study its suitability for developing safety critical product family members. This study provides positive feedback on the potential of the model-based method PLUS in supporting the development of functional safety critical embedded systems in product lines. As a result of our analysis we suggest potential improvements for it.

Vibration characteristics analysis is important in the design of multi-span pipeline with different support conditions. In order to analyze the natural frequency and the vibration modal of the multi-span pipeline, a matrix transfer method is proposed in this paper. With the multi-span pipeline divided into single-span pipes, the transmission formulas for the deflection, angle, bending and shear between two adjacent spans are deduced, in combination with the Krylov function solution of the free vibration equation for the single-span pipe, and the constraint condition between the two adjacent spans of the multi-span pipeline. According to the boundary conditions on the starting and ending spans, the natural frequency equation and the vibration modal function between two adjacent spans of the multi-span pipeline are presented. The FORTRAN program based on the above principle is written, and the natural vibration frequencies and the vibration modals of two typical multi-span pipelines are investigated and compared with the results from ABAQUS. It is shown that the model presented in this paper is efficient in the analysis of multi-span pipeline and has the advantages of high computational efficiency and convenience for engineering practice application.

Developing safety critical products demands a clear safety argumentation for each product in spite of whether it has been derived from a product line or not. The functional safety standards do not explain how to develop safety critical products in product lines, and the product line concept is lacking specific approaches to develop safety critical products. Nonetheless, product lines are well-established concepts even in companies developing safety critical products. In this paper we present the results of an exploratory study interviewing 15 practitioners from 6 different companies. We identify typical challenges and approaches from industry and discuss their suitability. The challenges and approaches brought out by this study help us to identify and enhance applicable methods from the product line engineering domain that can meet the challenges in the safety critical domain as well.

A time-series assessment of urban environment was carried out by using "CASBEE-City" tool in Kobe city to visualize the disaster recovery process. As a result of the assessment, it was revealed that the score for quality of Kobe city calculated by the tool got drastically worse soon after the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake in 1995. However, the score for quality of Kobe city has gradually recovered after the earthquake and has improved to the current position along with the progress of the reconstruction.

In this paper, a sort-based relay selection algorithm is proposed for decode-and-forward wireless relay systems. The proposed algorithm can reduce computational complexity and system overhead in the relay selection for practical decode-and-forward wireless relay systems with multiple sources and multiple relays. This would be a very important improvement. Firstly, the sufficient and necessary conditions for a relay to be feasible to a source are derived. By adopting relay transmission via its feasible relay, the source can improve channel capacity compared to direct transmission. Then, a sort-based relay selection algorithm is proposed based on the sufficient and necessary conditions. In the proposed algorithm, each relay makes decision on its feasibility individually, but the final source-relay paring decision is made in a centralized manner. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can provide considerable system performance improvement over the existing algorithm. Especially at low signal-to-noise (SNR) region, the performance of the proposed algorithm almost reaches the optimal one.

Long Term Evolution (LTE) Carrier Aggregation (CA) was introduced by the Release-10 3GPP specifications. CA allows aggregation of up to 5 cells for a terminal;both downlink (DL) CA and uplink (UL) CA are supported by the 3GPP specifications. However, the first commercial deployments focus on the aggregation of two cells in the downlink. The benefits of LTE CA are increased terminal peak data rates, aggregation of fragmented spectrum and fast load balancing. In this paper, we analyze different strategies of DL scheduling for LTE CA including centralized, independent and distributed schedulers, we provide the corresponding simulation results considering UE data rate limitations and different traffic models. Also, we compare the performance of a single LTE carrier with LTE CA using the same total bandwidth.
