Probabilistic fatigue life prediction for ship structures using fracture mechanics

作者: Gifford, LN [?]1Gilberto F. M. de Souza is an assistant professor at the department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of S?o Paulo Brazil. He completed his B.S. and M.S. degrees in naval architecture and marine engineering in 1985 and 1990 respectively at the University of Sao Paulo and completed his Ph.D. degree in mechanical engineering in 1994 at the University of S?o Paulo. He is also a visiting scholar in the Center of Technology and System Management at the University of Maryland at College Park. He is conducting research with professor Bilal M. Ayyub in the area of development of fatigue fracture reliability-based design of ship structures. He has authored or co-authored several papers and reports. He has taken part in research developed for the Brazilian Navy and Petrobras—Brazilian Petroleum Company in the area of structural analysis and design of marine structures.

作者: Karafiath, G McCallum, D Hendrix, D GABOR KARAFIATH is a group leader in the Resistance and Powering Department (Code 5200) at the Carderock Division of NSWC. He graduated from the University of Michigan where he earned a BSE in naval architecture and aerospace engineering in 1970 and an MS in naval architecture in 1972. He has been with David Taylor since leaving Michigan. He specializes in tank testing analysis and in high performance ship designs. He is responsible for all Navy ship model testing and initial design and has many years of experience both nationally and internationally. Mr. Karafiath has been a member of ASNE since 1985. DONALD MCCALLUM has worked as a naval architect for about 45 years in Scotland Canada and the U.S. He graduated from the University of Strathclyde Glasgow in 1959 and later obtained a masters in naval architechture from the University of Michigan. For 24 years he worked in the Hydrodynamics Group at NAVSEA producing hull form designs of combatants carriers trawlers oilers etc. His specialties are hull form design ship stabilization and stack design. Mr. McCallum has been the co-developer along with the British Ministry of Defense of the Hull Design Database System. Now retired he consults with the U.S. Navy on ship design. Mr. McCallum has been a member of ASNE since 1983. DR. DANE HENDRIX has been employed at the David Taylor Model Basin Carderock Division NSWC since 1984. He holds a BS degree in naval architecture and marine engineering from Webb Institute (1984) and an MS degree in mechanical engineering from Catholic University (1987). In 1995 he received his Ph.D. from the University of Maryland in mechanical engineering. His areas of interest are primarily in free-surface hydrodynamics and hull form design. Dr. Hendrix is a visitor at ASNE.

作者: ANDREWS, DJ ZHANG, JW David Andrews:is the Professor of Naval Architecture at University College London. He is a member of the Royal Corps of Naval Constructors and has spent his career in submarine and surface ship design and procurement projects. He graduated from UCL in 1970 and obtained his MSc in Naval Architecture in 1971. During his tour year appointment to UCL as Lecturer in Naval Architecture he obtained his PhD in Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering for his thesis ‘Synthesis in Ship Design’ in 1984. From 1986 to 1990 he was the Warship Project Manager for the Royal Navy's Replacement Amphibious Programme (LPD and LPH) and for the Aviation Training Ship (RFA ARGUS) as well as the in-service Steam Powered Warships Group. Before returning to UCL in 1993 he was the Head of Preliminary Design in the Future Projects Directorate where he was responsible for studies into future submarines and surface ships including unconventional hull forms. At UCL he directs the naval architecture undergraduate and MSc courses whilst heading up the Naval Architecture Research Group's programmes in computer aided preliminary design trimaran research combat system integration and ship design methodology. He is a Chartered Engineer and Fellow of the Royal Institution of Naval Architects for whom he Chairs the Membership Committee and is a Member of Council and the Executive Committee
