Applications need to become more concurrent to take advantage of the increased computational power provided by chip level multiprocessing. Programmers have traditionally managed this concurrency using locks (mutex based synchronization). Unfortunately, lock based synchronization often leads to deadlocks, makes fine-grained synchronization difficult, hinders composition of atomic primitives, and provides no support for error recovery. Transactions avoid many of these problems, and therefore, promise to ease concurrent programming. We describe a software transactional memory (STM) system that is part of McRT, an experimental Multi-Core RunTime. The McRT-STM implementation uses a number of novel algorithms, and supports advanced features such as nested transactions with partial aborts, conditional signaling within a transaction, and object based conflict detection for C/C++ applications. The McRT-STM exports interfaces that can be used from C/C++ programs directly or as a target for compilers translating higher level linguistic constructs. We present a detailed performance analysis of various STM design tradeoffs such as pessimistic versus optimistic concurrency, undo logging versus write buffering, and cache line based versus object based conflict detection. We also show a MCAS implementation that works on arbitrary values, coexists with the STM, and can be used as a more efficient form of transactional memory. To provide a baseline we compare the performance of the STM with that of fine-grained and coarse-grained locking using a number of concurrent data structures on a 16-processor SMP system. The software reliability represents one of the most crucial aspects of functional safety. Software is used in almost any electronic systems. When a safety-critical system is considered, it has to be ensured that the software is able to fulfil the minimum safety requirements. If this is not the case, the software will have to be improved until the minimum requirements are fulfilled. Reliability growth models are used to determine the reliability of software. Depending on the area of application one specific model can deliver better prognosis results than another. This paper serves to introduce a methodology, which is provided for the purpose of selecting the most appropriate model.

An end-element, a logic solver system and a sensor are essential parts of safety-critical systems. The time to market of a brand new logic solver system might drastically increase when a safety-critical operating system needs to be written from scratch. According to our observations, the commercial safety-critical operating systems are not flexible enough to be reused for a brand-new platform. Consequently, we are going to present a generic safety-critical operating system. The operating system is written in an object-oriented programming language. Inheritance and polymorphism are used to achieve hardware independency. The first results show that more than thirty percent of source code might be reused. Thus, a lot of time for testing, documenting and certifying can be saved.

The details of future failures of systems that are serially produced are important for the remanufacturing departments to frame an optimal strategy for the post series supply. The existing one-dimensional and two-dimensional reliability prediction models predict field failures as a function of time based on the stress which the components/systems experience in the field until failure. In day-to-day situations the failure forecasts depend on many external factors like registration delay, which is the delay between the production of a system and its registration in market, reporting delay, which is the delay between the field failure and its reporting time, the export of vehicles to other countries or permanent damage caused to the vehicles. The improvement procedures are integrated into the existing reliability forecast models to reduce the incompleteness of the warranty data due to the influence of external factors using MATLAB. The verification process is to compare the forecasted field failures by the existing models with the actual field failures. The prognosis is carried out based on different failures data sets. With the help of sales data from Original Equipment Manufacturers, the forecasted failures Year to Date are verified. Remanufacturing, a popular term in the automotive industry, helps to reduce the need for raw materials, increase profitability, is an effective solution to the challenges of postal items and also benefits the environment. For the remanufacturing department, the reliability and failure rate of serial products is particularly important, and therefore the accurate prediction of failure rates is also important. It must be ensured that the product meets its reliability requirements. Existing one, two and three dimensional reliability prediction models predict field failures as a function of time, based on the stress experienced by the components/systems in the field until failure. The existing models have been extended to include the parameters that allow us to predict the reliability of refurbished systems. Improvements such as registration delays, reporting delays and the corrected candidate calculation, which deals with whether the product is still within the warranty period after the observation period, are present in the models and are applied to the systems. This reduces the incompleteness of warranty data due to the influence of external factors with MATLAB. The reliability of systems can be predicted with the lifetime prediction and further conclusions can be drawn for future development. This particular essay expounds upon how one can foresee and predict software reliability. There are two major components that exist within a computer system: hardware and software. The reliabilities between the two are comparable because both are stochastic processes, which can be described by probability distributions. With this said, software reliability is the probability that will function without failure in a given software and in a given environment during a specified period of time. Thus, this is why software reliability is a major and key factor in software developmental processes and quality. However, one can spot the difference between software reliability and hardware reliability where it concerns the quality duration and the fact that software reliability does not decrease its reliability over time.

Road accidents have been known to be one of the leading death causes around the world for a long time. Thus, cars and all kinds of road vehicles form a huge source of danger, and they relate to multiple high risks. There are many factors that can contribute to road traffic accidents such as the health condition of the driver if a medical emergency event happened while driving, drowsiness, or mind-wandering. The proposed system can monitor the behavior of the driver while driving as well as his/her health status. Moreover, it analyzes the monitored data, alerts the driver in a timely manner, and assists him/her in adjusting the driving behavior. Different dangerous and risky situations which can be faced during driving can be captured and avoided by using such a system which leads at the end to increase road traffic safety and reduce vehicle collisions. Notifications are developed in cases of drowsiness, loss of focus, or other concerns that may emerge while driving. However, when the driver's ability to operate the vehicle safely is hampered by a health concern, the implemented system is only able at this stage to alarm the driver itself and the surrounding cars as a first level of alarms. © 2023 IEEE.

To remanufacture automobile systems, it is important to understand the future failure rate of the serially produced systems. In addition, remanufacturing departments need the information about the number of cores to remanufacture, the condition of these cores, as well as the number of replacement systems the market needs. Based on the existing univariate, bivariate and multivariate models a new improved forecasting model is developed, which considers practical factors like export of the vehicle to other countries, damage of the entire vehicle, reporting delay between production and in-market time or between vehicle failure and failure reporting time. This paper presents all necessary tools to achieve the improvement and its implementation in MATLAB. Copyright © 2019 European Safety and Reliability Association.

Nowadays the information of future rates of systems produced in series appears to be crucial to the production plan, especially for remanufacturing departments. Several questions need to be answered: the number of cores to remanufacture the condition of those cores as well as the number of replacement system the market requires. Based on a bivariate prognosis model, a multivariate model is developed to take more variables of stress in field into account. What's more, the fitting process has been optimized by using neural networks. This paper presents all necessary tools to perform a multivariate lifetime prognosis as well as the implementation in MATLAB. © 2019 European Safety and Reliability Association. Data flow processing is a common task of embedded systems which is usually modeled as a pipeline. Errors in a block of this pipeline can be propagated through it thus leading to unexpected and erroneous behaviors. For safety related applications, this pipeline has to be able to identify and react to failures. The DMOSES model-driven development method uses deterministic UML activities to describe and implement data flow processing. This method ensures deterministic behavior of concurrent processing. Design by Contract defines formal, precise and verifiable interfaces for software components. We propose a development method for safe data flow processing based on the integration of this concept in deterministic UML activities. This integration allows the identification of errors by detection of contracts violation. This paper presents an extension of the DMOSES tool for contracts verification at the model level and their monitoring at runtime. © 2011 IEEE.
