Around the world, modern cities are changing dramatically in order to install smart infrastructure, provide smart services to residents, improve accessibility for vulnerable populations, and provide a clean, sustainable, and secure environment. Numerous initiatives that address significant issues with urban transportation, health, water management, energy conservation, housing, safety, and accessibility are centered on the adoption of new technologies. To overcome these obstacles and enhance the resourcefulness, sustainability, and security of cities, it is imperative to embrace new and creative technologies, especially in light of the advancements in communication and sensor technology over the past few decades. This article gives a summary of the metropolitan issues that smart urban communities are now experiencing. It investigates how edge ai and blockchain, two recent technological innovations, might revolutionize urban intelligence. It also examines significant research initiatives in these two crucial areas of today’s smart cities, along with a variety of applications for edge ai and blockchain in smart energy and transportation. It discusses numerous uses of blockchain in the context of secure vehicle-to-vehicle trade and communication, along with a range of methods for processing speed detection, counting, and identification to lessen traffic congestion. The purpose of this review article is to set the stage for next research on applying blockchain technology and edge artificial intelligence to smarter city applications. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

With the technological advancement, the world is going through, at such a high pace, new challenges arise that might require new approaches. ML is, without a doubt, on the lead of technology, as it is evolving with minimal human intervention. However, new models of ML are crucial to preventing hackers from manipulating data. It is true that with new models, new gates for attacks are opened, which is why ML security must follow the same pace in evolving. In this paper, a brief introduction to ML and ML security will be discussed to give an insight on the topic, before going through a more specific point;the challenges faced by ML security. By introducing these terms, the reader will come to grasp the importance of ML security, and the huge role it plays when it comes to protecting data against hackers. However, this by no means indicates that it is flawless;on the contrary, there are flaws in the methods used in our present day, which is another topic this paper will give an insight on. Our main focus in this paper will be supervised learning due to its application in security. Algorithms used in ML models is the main gate that hackers use to breach the system, for this precise reason, engineers and experts are challenged to come with new algorithms, as we will conclude this work. © 2022 IEEE.

Many nations are trying to develop smart cities. In these cities, all appliances will be connected through a communication network, the main challenge is building a system that will be flexible and efficient at the same time. In this study a mobile application was developed to control home appliances through ESP32 controller. The mobile application was developed in such a way that the user can use fingerprint, voice control, and switch buttons control. The mobile application was tested on several phones from a different manufacturer and it performs greatly based on the performance criteria specified in this work. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Traditionally, attendance is marked manually by students writing down their name on a paper. This whole process wastes some of lecture time and might even get lost. Maintaining the attendance of the students in an institution is a hefty task. This project aims at designing a smart attendance system that automatically monitors and manages attendance of the students in an institution efficiently. The system is developed with an Arduino ESP8266 Wi-Fi microcontroller deployed in the class room. Further, Wi-Fi communication modules was used to make convenient communication between the student’s devices e.g. phone or laptop and the ESP8266 Wi-Fi microcontroller. Database was created where the attendance submitted will be logged and saved. Internet is utilized to transfer the information collected by the micro controller to the database and from the database to the front-end web page GUI graphical user interface. The students and admin will make one-time registration and subsequently establishing a Wi-Fi connection between the student’s device and the microcontroller in the class to mark an attendance. This system will arrange the attendance in a list with a real time timestamp and save it to database, and also be accessible to the lecturer/Admin over internet any time with uses of web browser e.g. Google chrome through the front end graphic user interface (GUI). This system is useful to reduce manual method of attendance by teachers and to alleviate the spread of COVID-19. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

I have studied how artificial intelligence (ai) or machine learning (ML) is applied in a sustainable system called "Eugenie"for my work, project, and thesis. In this project, I get to discuss Eugenie's role in ensuring the sustainability of large environmental business organizations. I also get to discuss how it aids operation managers in making predictions about when their machines will break down days, weeks, and months in advance, allowing them to schedule maintenance cycles more effectively. In other words, Eugenie provides plant operators with data so they can prioritize repairs. Eugenie executes this process by utilizing real-time data from numerous sensors attached to large machinery and equipment in the process industry, metals and mining, oil and gas, and smart cities industries. Two products make up this program;the first is named RAY-FINN and the second is called PAPILLON. Eugenie assists businesses in a variety of ways, including:•aids in the attainment of operational excellence by process organizations•Always raise overall profitability.•Contributes to a greener and safer future. © 2023 IEEE.

The Covid-19 pandemic, which shook the entire world and altered the dynamics of humanity, resulted in drastic alterations in our life. With the pandemic, human history has understood that the digital world is more important than ever. Existing efforts to digitize pre-pandemic surveys have not entirely replaced face-to-face research. The fundamental issue with online survey platforms can be divided into two categories. It is mostly due to the fact that the particular question types used in practically all research cannot be customized and adjusted using a simple internet program, and certain limited alterations cannot be matched to the research patterns. Second, in addition to the inadequacies of these applications, the online services provided are mainly fee-based programs or applications. The application that is proposed to be established and developed in this context aims to overcome the bottleneck experienced by the end user and to supply the users with high-quality tools that they may use in the global world. © 2023 IEEE.

The term "Cyber Security"is getting more and more popular and important over the last few years. Since computers and most of the devices are connected to the internet, they are likely to be hacked by the hackers. In the past, this issue was not a big problem, because not every device is required to be connected to the internet or the internet was not popular as today. But the case has changed over the years. All the changes in the technology area also changed the cyber-attack models as well. With the development of technology and the change of usage of the internet over the last years cyber-attacks have become more common and popular by the hackers. Hackers have discovered that they have an opportunity to steal or earn money in a short time without having to spend too much effort. These days, the type of cyber-attacks is not the same as the ones in the past. As time passes, the cyber-attack methods are also changing and evolving. Today, hackers are using more advanced and effective cyber-attack methods compared to past years. There are many methods that are impossible to cover all of them in this article. Our main focus will be on social engineering attacks in this article. Social engineering attacks use different approaches to cyber attacking. Unlike trying to explode a victim's social media password etc. using advanced exporting programs, algorithms or techniques, social engineering attacks focus on fooling victims into providing their data to hackers by themselves without using or implementing any password cracking, exploiting techniques etc. We will go over what social media engineering is, type of social engineering methods, what countermeasures can be used to protect from social engineering and more in this article. © 2023 IEEE.

Frequency selective surface (FSS) was first created by G. Marconi and C. S. Franklin in 1919 and is known as the "Reflector for Wireless Telegraph and Telephone,"making a significant contribution to our way of life. In terms of the 1960s, it is impossible to overlook the success attained with the employment of regularly selective surfaces in military intelligence units. These structures, which were occasionally applied to land, air, and sea platforms, displayed low pass, high pass, band pass, or band stop characteristics for particular frequencies and served as electromagnetic filters. Many accomplishments have been made, particularly with platforms that are invisible to target detection systems. The geometry and arrangement of the unit cell in these structures, which are successfully used in many fields such as wireless communication systems, radars, and microwaves, allows for the reflection or transmission of the incoming electromagnetic wave. This is made possible by the advancement of technology. High-speed internet connectivity is possible using millimeter wave, a frequency spectrum between 30 GHz and 300 GHz. Its significance has grown in the fields of radio astronomy, radar, remote sensing, and wireless communications. © 2023 IEEE.
