Achieving and maintaining cooperation between agents to accomplish a common objective is one of the central goals of Multi-Agent Reinforcement Learning (MARL). Nevertheless in many real-world scenarios, separately trained and specialized agents are deployed into a shared environment, or the environment requires multiple objectives to be achieved by different coexisting parties. These variations among specialties and objectives are likely to cause mixed motives that eventually result in a social dilemma where all the parties are at a loss. In order to resolve this issue, we propose the Incentive Q-Flow (IQ-Flow) algorithm, which modifies the system's reward setup with an incentive regulator agent such that the cooperative policy also corresponds to the self-interested policy for the agents. Unlike the existing methods that learn to incentivize self-interested agents, IQ-Flow does not make any assumptions about agents' policies or learning algorithms, which enables the generalization of the developed framework to a wider array of applications. IQ-Flow performs an offline evaluation of the optimality of the learned policies using the data provided by other agents to determine cooperative and self-interested policies. Next, IQ-Flow uses meta-gradient learning to estimate how policy evaluation changes according to given incentives and modifies the incentive such that the greedy policy for cooperative objective and self-interested objective yield the same actions. We present the operational characteristics of IQ-Flow in Iterated Matrix Games. We demonstrate that IQ-Flow outperforms the state-of-the-art incentive design algorithm in Escape Room and 2-Player Cleanup environments. We further demonstrate that the pretrained IQ-Flow mechanism significantly outperforms the performance of the shared reward setup in the 2-Player Cleanup environment. © 2023 International Foundation for Autonomous Agents and Multiagent systems (***). In recent years, neural networks have demonstrated substantial progress in medical image segmentation. However, accurately segmenting objects in medical images is often restricted by edge blurring, which complicates the delineation of structures of interest. The purpose of this study is to develop a multi-branch hybrid CNN-transformer model to address the issue of edge blurring in medical image segmentation. This approach enables more precise edge detection and segmentation. Integrating hybrid CNN and transformer decoders facilitates detailed recovery while preserving global structures, thus minimizing errors in regions with blurred edges. Additionally, we incorporate a hybrid attention mechanism at the model’s bottleneck to enhance feature transfer between the encoder and decoder. The model was trained using the ACDC, Synapse, and polyp datasets, with a focus on improving segmentation accuracy in regions with blurry edges. Experimental results reveal that the proposed model surpasses existing state-of-the-art methods on the ACDC, Synapse, and polyp datasets, demonstrating its superior performance and effectiveness. These results suggest that the proposed model offers a significant improvement in handling edge blurring, with potential applications in enhancing medical image analysis and diagnostics. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2025.

Machine Learning Models for Early Prediction of COVID-19 Infections Based on Clinical Signs

Nowadays, the appearance of common symptoms, such as cough, fever, and loss of smell and taste, is the starting point of a battle against the coronavirus. The first standard method of COVID-19 infection assertion has become the RT-PCR test, which is however an uncomfortable solution for both patients and medical staff due to its high cost, timeliness, and false-negative result issue. This has raised the need for reliable automatic detection systems that aid in the early prediction of the COVID-19 infections with a lower cost. In this work, we aim at profiting from the Machine Learning (ML) advances to provide a reliable and low-cost COVID-19 prediction system. This system is based on the disease starting point, which is the patients’ clinical symptoms, that are still under-explored. We developed seven predictive models using traditional ML classification algorithms using a public dataset of obvious high-risk factors from patients’ clinical signs. The dataset has first undergone a pre-processing phase consisting of feature engineering and dataset resampling to deal with imbalanced dataset issue. Our best classification model is able to detect true positives and true negatives and weed out false positive and false negatives with an accuracy of 93%. © 2024, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Iterative Active-Inactive Obstacle Classification for Time-Optimal Collision Avoidance

Time-optimal obstacle avoidance is a prevalent problem encountered in various fields, including robotics and autonomous vehicles, where the task involves determining a path for a moving vehicle to reach its goal while navigating around obstacles within its environment. This problem becomes increasingly challenging as the number of obstacles in the environment rises. We propose an iterative active-inactive obstacle approach, which involves identifying a subset of the obstacles as"active", that considers solely the effect of the"active" obstacles on the path of the moving vehicle. The remaining obstacles are considered"inactive" and are not considered in the path planning process. The obstacles are classified as’active’ on the basis of previous findings derived from prior iterations. This approach allows for a more efficient calculation of the optimal path by reducing the number of obstacles that need to be considered. The effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated with two different dynamic models using the various number of obstacles. The results show that the proposed method is able to find the optimal path in a timely manner, while also being able to handle a large number of obstacles in the environment and the constraints on the motion of the object. © 2024, CC BY.

Automated Testing for Service-Oriented Architecture: Leveraging Large Language Models for Enhanced Service Composition

This article explores the application of Large Language Models (LLMs), including proprietary models such as OpenAI's ChatGPT 4o and ChatGPT 4o-mini, Anthropic's Claude 3.5 Sonnet and Claude 3.7 Sonnet, and Google's Gemini 1.5 Pro, Gemini 2.0 Flash, and Gemini 2.0 Flash-Lite, as well as open-source alternatives including Qwen2.5-14B-Instruct-1M, and commercially accessed models such as DeepSeek R1 and DeepSeek V3, which were tested via APIs despite having open-source variants, to automate validation and verification in application Programming Interface (API) testing within a Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA). Our system compares internal responses from the Enuygun Web Server against third-party API outputs in both JSON and XML formats, validating critical parameters such as flight prices, baggage allowances, and seat availability. We generated 100 diverse test scenarios across varying complexities (1-4 flight results) by randomly altering request and response parameters. Experimental results show that Google Gemini 2.0 Flash achieved high accuracy (up to 99.98%) with the lowest completion time (85.34 seconds), while Qwen2.5-14B-Instruct-1M exhibited limited capability in processing complex formats. Models such as OpenAI's ChatGPT and Anthropic's Claude Sonnet models also demonstrated strong performance in single-flight validation scenarios, making them suitable for low-latency, high-precision tasks. Our findings indicate that some open-source models can offer promising cost-effective alternatives, though performance significantly varies. This integration of LLMs reduced manual workload, improved test scalability, and enabled real-time validation across large-scale datasets. As LLM technologies mature, we anticipate further advances in automation, accuracy, and efficiency in software validation systems. © 2013 IEEE.

With the advancement of technology, unexposed spaces have emerged as a new type of strategic area, attracting significant attention from researchers. These spaces often present complex environments, such as extreme lighting variations, irregular geometries, and the lack of external positioning signals, making human entry hazardous. Fortunately, advancements in robotics and artificial intelligence have enabled unmanned systems to mitigate these challenges, allowing for safer exploration of unexposed spaces. UAVs, as vital unmanned system platforms, are extensively used across various industrial scenarios and are particularly effective for detecting unexposed spaces. To facilitate automated exploration of these areas, we propose the autonomous UAV system, LUOJIA Explorer. Equipped with a LiDAR sensor, data transmission module, and external anti-collision devices to protect the aircraft, LUOJIA Explorer is designed for effective unexposed space detection. We have integrated a laser point cloud positioning and mapping subsystem, along with a planning and control subsystem, into the LUOJIA Explorer. Through both simulation and actual experiments, the Luojia Explorer has demonstrated the capability to achieve stable flight based on self-positioning in unexposed spaces, with an exploration efficiency of 88.83 m3/s. © Author(s) 2024.
