In this report, we summarize the first NTIRE challenge on light field (LF) image super-resolution (SR), which aims at super-resolving LF images under the standard bicubic degradation with a magnification factor of 4. This challenge develops a new LF dataset called NTIRE-2023 for validation and test, and provides a toolbox called BasicLFSR to facilitate model development. Compared with single image SR, the major challenge of LF image SR lies in how to exploit complementary angular information from plenty of views with varying disparities. In total, 148 participants have registered the challenge, and 11 teams have successfully submitted results with PSNR scores higher than the baseline method LF-InterNet [1]. These newly developed methods have set new state-of-the-art in LF image SR, e.g., the winning method achieves around 1 dB PSNR improvement over the existing state-of-the-art method DistgSSR [2]. We report the solutions proposed by the participants, and summarize their common trends and useful tricks. Gravitational-wave high-energy Electromagnetic Counterpart All-sky Monitor (GECAM) is a space-borne instrument dedicated to monitoring high-energy transients, including Terrestrial Gamma-ray Flashes (TGFs) and Terrestrial Electron Beams (TEBs). We implemented a TGF/TEB search algorithm for GECAM, with which 147 bright TGFs, 2 typical TEBs and 2 special TEB-like events are identified during an effective observation time of ∼9 months. We show that, with gamma-ray and charged particle detectors, GECAM can effectively identify and distinguish TGFs and TEBs, and measure their temporal and spectral properties in detail. A very high TGF-lightning association rate of ∼80% is obtained between GECAM and GLD360 in east Asia region. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Background: Despite major advances in artificial intelligence (AI) research for healthcare, the deployment and adoption of AI technologies remain limited in clinical practice. In recent years, concerns have been raised about the clinical, technical, ethical and legal risks associated with healthcare AI. To increase adoption in the real world, it is essential that AI technologies are trusted and accepted by patients, clinicians, health organisations and authorities. This paper describes the FUTURE-AI framework as the first international consensus guideline for trustworthy AI in healthcare. Methods: The FUTURE-AI consortium was founded in 2021 and now comprises 117 interdisciplinary experts from 50 countries representing all continents, including AI scientists, clinical researchers, biomedical ethicists, and social scientists. Over a two-year period, the consortium established guiding principles and best practices for trustworthy and deployable AI through an iterative process comprising an in-depth literature review, a modified Delphi survey, and online consensus meetings. Findings: The FUTURE-AI framework was established based on six guiding principles for trustworthy AI in healthcare, i.e. Fairness, Universality, Traceability, Usability, Robustness and Explainability. Through consensus, a set of 30 best practices were defined, addressing technical, clinical, socio-ethical and legal dimensions of trustworthy AI. The recommendations cover the entire lifecycle of healthcare AI, from design, development and validation to regulation, deployment, and monitoring. Interpretation: FUTURE-AI is a structured, risk-informed framework which provides guidance for constructing healthcare AI tools that will be trusted, deployed and adopted in real-world clinical practice. researchers are encouraged to take the recommendations into account in proof-of-concept stages to facilitate future translation towards clinical practice of healthcare AI. SCADA systems form the core of infrastructural facilities, including power grids, water treatment facilities, and industrial processes. Changing cyber threats present increasingly sophisticated attacks against which traditional security models inadequately protect SCADA systems. These traditional models usually have drawbacks in the way of inadequate feature selection, inefficiency in detecting most attacks, and suboptimal parameter tuning, which cause vulnerabilities and reduce resilience in systems. This paper presents CyberSentry, a new security framework designed to overcome limitations so as to provide robust protection for SCADA systems. These three modules makeup CyberSentry: the RMIG feature selection model, tri-fusion net for attack detection, and Parrot-Levy Blend Optimization (PLBO) for parameter tuning. The Recursive Multi-Correlation-based Information Gain (RMIG) feature selection model enhances accuracy in detection by optimizing the set of fatal features through recursive multi-correlation analysis by Information Gain prioritization. The Tri-Fusion Net combines anomaly detection, signature-based detection, and machine learning classifiers to enhance the detection versatility and robustness. The PLBO module ensures efficient and dynamic tuning for the parameters through undocumented Parrot and Levy optimization techniques. The proposed CyberSentry framework integrates, within a unified architecture, anomaly detection, signature-based detection, and machine learning classifiers to enhance the security of SCADA systems against diverse cyber threats. Features extracted in this manner are analyzed using machine learning classifiers that exploit their predictive capabilities for robust threat classification. The proposed approaches are fused within the Tri-Fusion Net to complement each other in areas where the separate methods lack certain strengths. Supernova (SN) 2023ixf was discovered on May 19th, 2023. The host galaxy, M101, was observed by the Hobby Eberly Telescope Dark Energy Experiment (HETDEX) collaboration over the period April 30, 2020 – July 10, 2020, using the Visible Integral-field Replicable Unit Spectrograph (VIRUS;3470 λ 5540 Å) on the 10-m Hobby-Eberly Telescope (HET). The fiber filling factor within ±30′′ of SN 2023ixf is 80% with a spatial resolution of 1′′. The r ′′ surroundings are 100% covered. This allows us to analyze the spatially resolved pre-explosion local environments of SN 2023ixf with nebular emission lines. The 2-dimensional (2D) maps of the extinction and the star-formation rate (SFR) surface density (ΣSFR) show weak increasing trends in the radial distributions within the r ′′ regions, suggesting lower values of extinction and SFR in the vicinity of the progenitor of SN 2023ixf. The median extinction and that of the surface density of SFR within r ′′ are E(B − V ) = 0.06 ± 0.14, and ΣSFR = 10−5.44±0.66 Mo · yr−1 · arcsec−2. There is no significant change in extinction before and after the explosion. The gas metallicity does not change significantly with the separation from SN 2023ixf. The metal-rich branch of the R23 calculations indicates that the gas metallicity around SN 2023ixf is similar to the solar metallicity (∼ Zo). The archival deep images from the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope Legacy Survey (CFHTLS) show a clear detection of the progenitor of SN 2023ixf in the z-band at 22.778 ± 0.063 mag, but non-detections in the remaining four bands of CFHTLS (u, g, r, i). Polynomial neural networks (PNN) have emerged as an effective regression modeling methodology in computational intelligence, relying on its interpretable polynomial nodes to fit complex nonlinear data relationships and the adaptive nature of self-organizing networks. To break the bottleneck of PNN structure in the field of multi-classification, this study designs a dynamical multiple polynomial-based neural networks (DMPNN) classifier, focusing on developing a flexible polynomial network classification methodology that enhances predictive capabilities without sacrificing the advantages of PNN structures. Our approach effectively addresses the challenges of multi-class classification with uncertain class boundaries and reduces computational complexity, which is achieved through the synergy of several proposed techniques. Three key issues underpin the proposed DMPNN: (a) The integration of PNN regression models using the one-against-all strategy can provide effective and scalable solutions to multi-class classification problems, especially for uncertain class boundary issues. (b) The dual statistical selection (DSS) approach aims to eliminate redundant inputs during data processing, reduce the computational burden, and increase the variety of neural network nodes in the model neuron selection stage. (c) The synergy of regularization methods including the ℓ2 norm-based method (ℓ2-LSM) and the DropFilter, is exploited to mitigate potential overfitting in coefficient estimation and enhance the generalization capabilities of the proposed classifier. A series of ablation experiments and parameter analysis were conducted to demonstrate the stability and reliability of the proposed model. Then, we applied DMPNN to 17 publicly available datasets and two engineering applications: Recycling of black plastic wastes and phased resolved partial discharge. Multi-organ biological aging clocks across different organ systems have been shown to predict human disease and mortality. Here, we extend this multi-organ framework to plasma metabolomics, developing five organ-specific metabolome-based biological age gaps (MetBAGs) using 107 plasma non-derivatized metabolites from 274,247 UK Biobank participants. The COVID-19 pandemic has been severely impacting global society since December 2019. The related findings such as vaccine and drug development have been reported in biomedical literature - at a rate of about 10,000 articles on COVID-19 per month. Such rapid growth significantly challenges manual curation and interpretation. For instance, LitCovid is a literature database of COVID-19-related articles in PubMed, which has accumulated more than 200,000 articles with millions of accesses each month by users worldwide. One primary curation task is to assign up to eight topics (e.g., Diagnosis and Treatment) to the articles in LitCovid. The annotated topics have been widely used for navigating the COVID literature, rapidly locating articles of interest, and other downstream studies. However, annotating the topics has been the bottleneck of manual curation. Despite the continuing advances in biomedical text mining methods, few have been dedicated to topic annotations in COVID-19 literature. To close the gap, we organized the BioCreative LitCovid track to call for a community effort to tackle automated topic annotation for COVID-19 literature. The BioCreative LitCovid dataset - consisting of over 30,000 articles with manually reviewed topics - was created for training and testing. It is one of the largest multi-label classification datasets in biomedical scientific literature. Nineteen teams worldwide participated and made 80 submissions in total. Most teams used hybrid systems based on transformers. The highest performing submissions achieved 0.8875, 0.9181, and 0.9394 for macro F1-score, micro F1-score, and instance-based F1-score, respectively. Notably, these scores are substantially higher (e.g., 12%, higher for macro F1-score) than the corresponding scores of the state-of-art multi-label classification method. Intelligent decision-making (IDM) is a cornerstone of artificial intelligence (AI) designed to automate or augment decision processes. Modern IDM paradigms integrate advanced frameworks to enable intelligent agents to make effective and adaptive choices and decompose complex tasks into manageable steps, such as AI agents and high-level reinforcement learning. Recent advances in multimodal foundation-based approaches unify diverse input modalities—such as vision, language, and sensory data—into a cohesive decision-making process. Foundation models (FMs) have become pivotal in science and industry, transforming decision-making and research capabilities. Their large-scale, multimodal data-processing abilities foster adaptability and interdisciplinary breakthroughs across fields such as healthcare, life sciences, and education. This survey examines IDM's evolution, advanced paradigms with FMs and their transformative impact on decision-making across diverse scientific and industrial domains, highlighting the challenges and opportunities in building efficient, adaptive, and ethical decision systems. © 2025 The Authors
