Recent metaheuristic algorithms for medical object localization using MSER detector in computer-aided diagnosis system

Object localization is a critical task in image analysis, often facilitated by artificial intelligence techniques. While the Maximally Stable Extremal Regions (MSER) detection algorithm is a popular choice for local detection, its exhaustive approaches can be algorithmically complex and prone to suboptimal results with improper parameter selection. Various metaheuristic algorithms have been proposed for medical object localization to address this. In this context, four contributions are presented. Firstly, recent metaheuristics, including the Slime Mould Algorithm (SMA), Marine Predators Algorithm (MPA), Heap-based Optimizer (HBO), and Gradient-based Optimizer (GBO), are adapted to tackle the MSER localization problem. These algorithms are rigorously evaluated across diverse medical image datasets using multiple metrics, with their performance statistically validated through the Friedman mean rank test. The second contribution introduces a novel objective function to improve the localization process. The third contribution involves a comparative analysis of the recent algorithms against seven standard metaheuristics specifically designed for MSER localization. Lastly, we present an improved computer-aided diagnosis system that integrates an SVM-based model with Local Binary Patterns (LBP) descriptors extracted from each MSER alongside DenseNet-121 features. Experimental results demonstrate that the HBO and SMA optimizers outperform conventional algorithms, showing a higher diversity, improved exploitation and exploration capabilities, a well-balanced exploration-exploitation trade-off, elevated fitness values, faster convergence speeds, and enhanced computational efficiency. Additionally, we integrate these findings into an improved computer-aided diagnosis system, yielding classification results surpassing state-of-the-art models. Metal active gas(MAG)welding is one of the widely applied welding techniques using argon and carbon dioxide as shielding *** response to the problem of welding halo and drag shadow during the image acquisition process of it,which makes it difficult to accurately extract the contour of the molten pool,this paper proposes a molten pool edge detection method that combines dark channel prior dehazing(DCPD)and improved single scale Retinex image enhancement *** method overcomes the problem of excessive edge noise in the original molten pool image and the difficulty in feature extraction caused by the dark part of the molten pool after DCPD *** comparative experiments and ablation experiments,it has been shown that the algorithm proposed in this paper has significantly improved the enhancement effect and feature extraction effect,extracting accurate and complete molten pool contours.

Semantic-Aware Late-Stage Supervised Contrastive Learning for Fine-Grained Action Recognition

Fine-grained action recognition typically faces challenges with lower inter-class variances and higher intra-class variances. Supervised contrastive learning is inherently suitable for this task, as it can decrease intra-class feature distances while increasing inter-class ones. However, directly applying it into fine-grained action recognition encounters two main problems. The first problem stems from the heavy training cost associated with supervised contrastive learning, which requires numerous training epochs, each involving double augmentation views per instance. To address this issue, we propose the late-stage supervised contrastive learning (late-SC) strategy, which effectively reduces the number of training epochs needed for the contrastive learning process. The second problem is that supervised contrastive loss does not explicitly consider the semantic distances between fine-grained actions when adjusting representation distances. This results in less reasonable and efficient adjustments to the representation space. To overcome this limitation, we introduce the semantic-aware temperature adaptation (STA) mechanism, enhancing the suitability of the supervised contrastive loss for fine-grained action recognition. We conduct experiments on several benchmark datasets for fine-grained action recognition, including Epic-Kitchens-55/100, SomethingSomething-V1, and Diving48-V2. The results demonstrate that our proposed method (referred to as LSC-STA) consistently enhances performance across various base feature extractors, without introducing additional inference overhead and incurring only a marginal increase in training expenses. © 1991-2012 IEEE.

Thanks to the strong representation capability of pre-trained language models,supervised machine translation models have achieved outstanding ***,the performances of these models drop sharply when the scale of the parallel training corpus is *** the pre-trained language model has a strong ability for monolingual representation,it is the key challenge for machine translation to construct the in-depth relationship between the source and target language by injecting the lexical and syntactic information into pre-trained language *** alleviate the dependence on the parallel corpus,we propose a Linguistics Knowledge-Driven MultiTask(LKMT)approach to inject part-of-speech and syntactic knowledge into pre-trained models,thus enhancing the machine translation *** the one hand,we integrate part-of-speech and dependency labels into the embedding layer and exploit large-scale monolingual corpus to update all parameters of pre-trained language models,thus ensuring the updated language model contains potential lexical and syntactic *** the other hand,we leverage an extra self-attention layer to explicitly inject linguistic knowledge into the pre-trained language model-enhanced machine translation *** on the benchmark dataset show that our proposed LKMT approach improves the Urdu-English translation accuracy by 1.97 points and the English-Urdu translation accuracy by 2.42 points,highlighting the effectiveness of our LKMT *** ablation experiments confirm the positive impact of part-of-speech and dependency parsing on machine translation.

Breast cancer is still a global health concern, chiefly affecting women, as it is one of the major causes of cancer mortality. For the therapy to be effective, early diagnosis of cancer is critical to raising the survival level and increasing the effectiveness of the procedure. The advancement in the applied technique of Machine Learning (ML) has brought further opportunities for early and effective diagnosis of breast cancer. This review paper provides insights into how different ML algorithms including the Support Vector Machine (SVM), Convolutional Neural Network (CNN), Random Forests, and many more have contributed to the detection of breast cancer. These algorithms have proved effective in providing solutions to various medical data and imaging including early diagnosis and treatment. The paper also looks at the use of ML with precision medicine to show that these technologies will help minimize false diagnoses and offer better treatment options. This review consolidates recent works and advancements to emphasize the prospect of ML in breast cancer management and calls for more studies to enhance its implementation in practice © 2024 IEEE.

Amidst the backdrop of increased urbanization and shifting climate patterns, this research delves into the growing vulnerability of landscapes to floods. The focus is on storm drain placement, emphasizing the identification of suitable locations and the need to reinforce drainage networks. The analysis takes into account parameters linked to flood sensitivity, including total rainfall, decadal growth rate, and soil types in each district within a state. Leveraging Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and relevant Coordinate Reference Systems (CRS), the study integrates a diverse array of datasets to inform precise cartographic projections. Employing a Random Forest Classifier, the study dissects the influence of these parameters on storm drain placement. The findings offer valuable insights for decision-makers to improve stormwater management systems, underscoring the importance of ongoing maintenance. Overcoming the challenge of obtaining official government data for recommendations, the research advocates the adoption of new technologies and data integration methods. By combining various data sources, such as topography, rainfall patterns, historical flood records, land use, and infrastructure data, it lays the groundwork for more advanced urban water management strategies, fortifying cities against flooding. © 2024 IEEE.

These days, a range of issues are being caused by fake news, including satirical pieces, fake news, and intentional government propaganda. Because of the blathering social media discourse, the idea of "fake news"has recently evolved. Wide-ranging consequences of fake news dissemination include the development of distorted opinions and the tampering of election outcomes to benefit specific politicians. Spammers also use captivating news headlines to entice readers to click on their advertisements. These days, it can be quite difficult to tell if the news we hear is accurate. There aren't many methods for assessing authenticity, and the ones that are accessible are all difficult and beyond the capabilities of the average person. A fact-checking platform that gives us that chance is desperately needed. Deep Learning (DL) approaches are suited for more accurately and efficiently detecting false news because of their recent accomplishments in difficult natural language processing tasks. The suggested approach is a multi-layered, optimal CNN model for detecting fake news. The OPCNN and Word embedding are optimized for feature extraction using the hyperopt optimization method in order to produce highly accurate results. In this study, we generated word embeddings using the FastText technique. The purpose of the model is to identify news stories published in Malayalam that are either false or misleading. The model is trained on 80% of a newly compiled Malayalam dataset consisting of news articles from various online sources having 11,686 news items with 5843 false and real news entries apiece and then evaluated on the remaining 20%. The evaluation's findings show that the suggested model works better than current methods and has a high degree of accuracy when it comes to identifying false information in Malayalam. © 2024 IEEE.

The speedy identification and early detection of diseases that are deadly are greatly important when it comes to human life saving. On the other hand, the existence of poor medical system alongside the lack of equal distribution of healthcare presents a barrier towards early disease detection leaving death as the only option. One of the ways to tackle these problems is the utilization of machine learning in detection and analysis of diseases risk is machine learning promising. Utilizing predictive analytics in medicine, practitioners can make accurate and relevant medical insights promptly, relying on the information they have. The work focused on generating prediction models to identify seven most severe illnesses: diabetes, pneumonia, malaria, heart disease, kidney disease, breast cancer, and liver disease, using an algorithm of Random Forest Classifier. Alongside this, the Convolutional Neural Networks were utilized for the detection of malaria and pneumonia. Users can get better knowledge about their health problems and at the same time reduce the access constraints to healthcare by using machine learning. This research is also about designing a web app with the Flask framework and will give its consumers an easy-to-use tool for the simultaneous prediction of all seven diseases. Such a user interface grants better healthcare access and results in the use of proactive measures, as people can take a more active role in their wellness. © 2024 IEEE.
