In this paper we present a model-free system for humanoid push recovery. The concept is inspired by human proprioceptory sensory input used for detecting balance disturbances. In our implementation, the foot pressure sensors found on a humanoid are used to detect the degree of sway in any direction. This difference is fed to a PID controller which sets the proper ankle torque to be applied in order to keep the humanoid standing in the upright position. This approach imitates the proprioceptive sensor information used by humans which dominates posture assessment. The system is implemented on the NAO H25 V3.3 humanoid in Webots against push disturbances in various directions. The system is also tested on the actual Nao humanoid.

Image inpainting is an interesting new research topic in image processing, which can be used in many thrust areas, such as computer graphics, image editing, film postproduction, image restoration and special effects and the restoration of old Photographs and damaged film, removal of superimposed text like dates, subtitles, or publicity and the removal of entire objects from the image. In image inpainting, missing (target) regions were filled by structural and textural information of an image in a visually plausible way, also known as image restoration. Though this technique is very useful, it is still a challenging problem in computer vision and computer graphics. In this paper, an algorithm is proposed for removing target objects from digital images. An algorithm was proposed to synthesize the structure & texture as well as fill the hole that is left behind in an undetectable form. An attempt has been made to compute actual color values using exemplar based texture synthesis and region filling method. A number of examples on removing occluding objects from real and satellite images demonstrate the effectiveness of proposed algorithm in terms of both inpainting quality and computational efficacy.

The continuous growth of email users has resulted in the increasing of unsolicited emails also known as Spam. In current, server side and client side anti spam filters are introduced for detecting different features of spam emails. However, recently spammers introduced some effective tricks consisting of embedding spam contents into digital image, pdf and doc as attachment which can make ineffective to current techniques that is based on analysis digital text in the body and subject fields of email. Many of proposed working strategy provides an anti spam filtering approach that is based on data mining techniques which classify the spam and ham emails. The effectiveness of these approaches is evaluated on large corpus of simple text dataset as well as text embedded image dataset. But most of the filtering techniques are unable to handle frequent changing scenario of spam mails adopted by the spammers over the time. Therefore improved spam control algorithms or enhancing the efficiency of various existing data mining algorithms to its fullest extent are the utmost requirement. A comparative study is presented on various spam filtering techniques adopted on the basis of various attributes to find best among all to extract the best results.

This paper discusses the design and building process of a net-zero energy solar-powered house developed for the 2013 Solar Decathlon competition to promote high-performance design while using traditional passive *** project,sponsored by the department of Energy,brought together students from architecture,engineering,and marketing departments to design and build the house of the *** challenge was to design a net-zero energy completely solar-powered house that is economically viable,aesthetically pleasant,and completely functional as *** that a net-zero energy building will rely on the functional interdependency of a building’s passive and active elements,the UNC Charlotte entry-the UrbanEden house-tried to effectively integrate those elements and deliver a best *** that end,the building envelope embraced passive strategies to minimize the annual heating and cooling loads and to optimize natural *** design ideas were tested via energy simulation to optimize energy and comfort *** estimated energy demand led into the design of the photovoltaic system,which has the dual function of producing energy and acting as a shading *** modular configuration of the house accommodated the transportation of the house across the country while enhancing the future expansion of the house for bigger size *** simulation was performed to finalize the building openings and address the lighting *** paper reports a way of effectively designing and constructing a net-zero energy,comfortable,and affordable solar house.

This paper presents topological constraints of gate-level circuits obtained through standard cell recognition applied to gate-level commercial microelectronics verification. A suite of topological constraints, including the gate vertex count, net vertex count, terminal count, blocks, circuit genus, Euler characteristic, and number of faces are extracted from gate-level circuits obtained through standard cell recognition. Topological constraints are computed for two full adder cells at fourth level of abstraction and for two full adder cells at the third level of abstraction. Two mathematical frameworks are also introduced to describe physically distinct situations in hardware that are represented in a schematic as functionally equivalent. The first method uses the concept of a braid word, and the second method uses the concept of a crossing vertex. Schematic braid words corresponding to each of two full adder cell schematics at fourth level of abstraction and for two full adder cell schematics at the third level of abstraction are derived. Chip braid words corresponding to the set of unique physical designs that could potentially be realized in chip hardware from a schematic are obtained and discussed. Potential capabilities of these approaches for gate-level circuits are discussed.

In this paper we analyzed the performance of Aggressive Packet Combining (APC) scheme. Various researchers have already suggested some protocols or schemes for the improvement of performance and correction capability of APC. Here we proposed four new protocols for improving the correction capability of APC. The four new protocols have been studied numerically and presented in this paper.

In this paper, parametric and numerical model of the motors of a robot are extracted. A method is proposed here to control the torque and velocity of the motor simultaneously using the extracted dynamics of the motor and consequently control the robot motion more accurately. Parametric model of the motors are derived by conducting standard tests like locked rotor test and step and sine wave input test. In order to derive the neural network and numerical models, a set of sinusoidal, triangular, and random steps signal, are applied as the input to the motor and its speed is recorded as the output. Neural network model of the motors is extracted by using these dataset and considering the MLP neural network structure with Levenberg _Marquardt training method. Results of the numerical model and parametric models are compared and validated by experimental tests.

In computer vision, segmentation is the process of partitioning a digital image into multiple segments (sets of pixels). Image segmentation is thus inevitable. Segmentation used for text-based images aim in retrieval of specific information from the entire image. This information can be a line or a word or even a character. This paper proposes various methodologies to segment a text based image at various levels of segmentation. This material serves as a guide and update for readers working on the text based segmentation area of computer Vision. First, the need for segmentation is justified in the context of text based information retrieval. Then, the various factors affecting the segmentation process are discussed. Followed by the levels of text segmentation are explored. Finally, the available techniques with their superiorities and weaknesses are reviewed, along with directions for quick referral are suggested. Special attention is given to the handwriting recognition since this area requires more advanced techniques for efficient information extraction and to reach the ultimate goal of machine simulation of human reading.

This paper presents the research on the development of neural network based non-linear controllers for an airplane UAV. Multi-layer perceptrons are used for the training of networks, both off-line and on-line. The data required for off-line training is generated from a validated non-linear flight dynamics model of the Cal Poly Pomona 12' Telemaster UAV. The off-line trained network using multilayer perceptrons replaces the inverse transformation required for feedback linearization. On-line training is then accomplished to account for the inversion and modeling error. The controllers are tested in the software-in-the-loop simulation environment using FlightGear Flight Simulator. Simulation results compared with flight data are shown. Also shown are the results in the presence of sensor noise.
