The color part of a color and motion amplification algorithm developed by the MIT computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSail) research group [1] is converted to real-time and used to visualize and monitor heart rate for drivers in order to sense when a driver becomes sleepy. A Kinect camera mounted on the dashboard is used to gather video data from which the driver's heart rate is extracted in real time. This technology can be used to unobtrusively monitor heart rate and breathing of infants, sleep apnea patients or other individuals where worn devices are not optimal.

In this work, the change in mechanical properties, microstructure and wear rate of high leaded tin bronze material was studied after multidirectional forging (MDF) process. The total equivalent strain of 0.75 was applied during MDF process result in the improvement of ultimate tensile strength, yield strength, hardness and wear rate along with maintained ductility with the increase in the number of MDF pass. The initial average grain size of 120 nm was refined to the final grain size of 37 nm. The transmission electron microscope, scanning electron microscope and optical microscope was used for the microstructure study of the undeformed, MDForged and wear worn surfaces.

Does Portfolio Mix Influence the Mutual Fund Performance?

Mutual funds put forward a way out to investors to approach maximum securities and get well-diversified portfolio, as investors with small savings neither have sufficient expertise nor have the means for diversification. Fund managers have responsibility to satisfy investors by offering them maximum return at calculated risk. In the anticipation of earning maximum return on investment, fund managers start working on the philosophy of ‘higher the risk, higher the return’ and accordingly focus mainly on equity stock in the portfolio. Whereas in reality the portfolio returns are influenced by many other funds that include market conditions, timings of investment and investment skills of managers. The results highlighted in this article are based on study of absolute returns and risk measures of four mutual funds studied for a period of 36 months. The findings of our analysis provide that fund managers cannot maximise their RoI by investing heavily in the risky securities. Instead the fund managers’ abilities to select quality stock and the appropriate timing determine the risk return trade-off attached with the funds. The article presents the investment styles of various fund managers that they apply to design varied portfolio mix by picking up different securities and the results highlighted provide that fund managers’ superior strategies to select stock alongwith the fund composition enhances the returns and reduces the impact of market volatility.

The increased need of content based image retrieval technique can be found in a number of different domains such as Data Mining, Education, Medical Imaging, Crime Prevention, Weather forecasting, Remote Sensing and Management of Earth Resources. This proposed paper presents the content based image retrieval for medical applications, using texture features and shape. This method uses a texture spectrum to extract texture features and edge histogram to extract shape features of MRI medical images. Then K-mean cluster and Manhattan distance is used for medical image retrieval.

computer simulation of the properties of the crystal lattice gives to use up to 1010÷1012 atoms. Using the described technique can be obtained from any of these atomic systems, as well as changes in the radii of coordination spheres at various distances. Simultaneously, you can get a number of nearby neighbors, the location of atoms on the coordination sphere. The initial structure is taken compound GaAs. The resulting model is given for different distances from the central atom. There are the distances from one to six. The result is an uneven growth of the number of atoms grouped along the radius of coverage. For the other elements of the possibility of uniform methods increase the number of atoms, such as Ga. We can develop an algorithm for constructing the structure of compound semiconductor-type A3B5 based on this principle. For example, to the type of A3B5 of semiconductor compounds it is used compound GaAs.

Population genetics is fundamental to understanding evolutionary theory, and is taught in most introductory biology/evolution courses. Many students are unaware that understanding this topic requires pertinent knowledge of mathematics and consequently struggle with the subject. As a response to this problem, a virtual tool (Pop!World) was developed that teaches introductory population genetics through intuitive, inquirybased visual discoveries. In seven modules students test hypotheses pertaining to the tenants of Mendelian and population genetics. The use of these exercises in a large introductory evolution (1,500+) course as part of a lab unit is described. Survey responses indicate that students perceive the tool as helpful, and a significantly higher interest in the field of evolution is reported after completion of the Pop!World section. Evaluations of multiple student assessments suggest an increased performance in the population genetics section of the course. Generally, we conclude that the visual and modular nature of PopWorld! represents a valuable approach to improving the understanding of the concepts of population genetics. [PUBLICATION ABSTRACT]

This article investigates the problem of estimating the state of discretized hyperbolic scalar partial differential equations. It uses a Godunov scheme to discretize the socalled Lighthill-Whitham-Richards equation with a triangular flux function, and proves that the resulting nonlinear dynamical system can be decomposed in a piecewise affine manner. Using this explicit representation, the system is written as a switching dynamical system (hybrid system), with an exponential number of modes. The estimation problem is posed using Kalman filtering in each of the linear mode, and the approach becomes computationally tractable by tracking the mode evolution as the estimation is performed at each time step. Numerical results are presented using the Mobile Millennium data set, and compared to results obtained using ensemble Kalman filtering, which is used for estimation in traffic monitoring.

Web Services helps in better communication between different applications over the Internet. They can send any type of information using encryption techniques. Different techniques have been used to send binary files as an attachment to SOAP messages. W3C recommends MTOM (Message Transmission Optimization Mechanism) as the standard for transferring binary files as an attachment to SOAP messages. The basic feature of MTOM is that, it transfers the binary data without breaking the XML infoset. -However, the work done so far on efficient processing of SOAP attachments is very little. This paper provides architecture for sending binary files as attachment using MTOM. The problem with DIME (Direct Internet Message Encapsulation) is that the binary content is sent outside the SOAP Envelope of the XML message. This means that even if your message is secure, the DIME attachment may not be secure. We realized that when MTOM is used, web service automatically handles the encoding of the data in the web service message. The architecture described in this paper for transferring binary files using MTOM will give approximately 10% faster result than DIME. This is because;in MTOM we do not need to package each chunk into the attachment, which is necessary in DIME.

Data mining involves analysis, extraction, refining and representation of required data from large databases. kDCI (k Direct Count and Intersect) algorithm is one of the best scalable algorithms for identifying frequent items in huge repository of data. This algorithm uses a special kind of compressed data structure which helps in mining the datasets easily. Apriori algorithm, a realization of frequent pattern matching, is universally adopted for reliable mining. It is based on parameters namely support and confidence. kDCI algorithm is hybridized with Apriori algorithm for better performance than their individual contribution. The result proves scalability and mining speed effectively.

Video as a Service (VaaS) is the cloud service that is gaining momentum in the modern world. With a lot of online web service providers shifting their products to video based services, for enhancing their business, VaaS will take a vital part in the developing cloud computing scenario. Video Streaming depends on storage, Streaming protocols and variations, Security and Quality of Service. A review of the analogies like storage, streaming protocols and variations, security and quality of service has been made in this paper. Also we have arrived at a perception of which technology may be suitable for cloud video as a service scheme. Finally we analyze the future direction.
