This paper discusses the effect of pH on the various properties of the self-healing mortars (SHM). The bacteria induced structures have the ability to heal cracks generated on its surfaces by precipitating minerals inside the pores which bio mimics the natural healing processes occurring in nature, thus being an environment friendly technology that contributes in maintaining the structural durability. The microbiologically induced precipitation accelerates at different rates at different conditions. Hence an attempt has been made to analyse the changes in the properties in mortar cubes induced with 105 cells/ml concentration of Bacillus megaterium solution and subjecting them to different curing media at different pH conditions. The healing efficiency of the cracks induced in the mortar cubes are evaluated visually for successive days. Through X-ray Diffraction analysis the white powder covering crack surface is confirmed to be calcite. The percentage reduction in the compressive strength of the samples after healing was found to be only 3% after 28 days of curing. The findings of the paper suggest promising application of self-healing mortar cubes at different geographical locations by varying the amount of bacterial solution.

Fastest growing economies like India observe changing role of their women population. Last few decades have experienced increase in women workforce and education, consequently increasing their outdoor activities. In face of growing levels of congestion in cosmopolitan cities like Bangalore, where majority female population use buses consistently, necessary safety measures should be implemented. This paper attempts to investigate various service gaps that may exist and find answers to research questions like what kinds of issues are faced by women in public buses and how safe women feel in public buses. The paper intends to analyse various service gaps related to safety factors and the expectations of women from the bus operators.

The world is experiencing an unfettered growth in terms of development but shrinking the way these developments are leading to the societal, economic and environmental changes and chaos. Sustainability is the answer and needs to be addressed effectively. ICT (Information and Communications Technology) has revolutionized the way things can change. This paper deals with sustainable transportation. Sustainable transport system is a sub topic of a bigger issue 'Sustainable Development'. So what does this imply? ICT, can indeed enable the designing of smarter cities that offer a better quality of life for their residents while being more sustainable and cost effective. It is not just the citizens of a country but also the government that can gain benefit from initiatives and meet the objectives faster. This paper digs into the traditional transport systems and the sustainable transport system which we thrive for. Green vehicles/Electric Vehicles/Driverless cars/Hybrid vehicles are the need of the hour. This paper extensively explores the issues and inventions that can lead to sustainable transportation. It further explores the problems associated with them and their solutions. These solutions cover the major aspects of sustainability like meticulous planning, correct usage of ICT and a well drafted and implemented governance framework.

The aim of the application is to create a virtual reality game, whose purpose is to showcase the facilities of SRM University, while doing so in an entertaining manner. The virtual prototype of the institution is deployed in a game engine which eases the students to look over the infrastructure, thereby reducing the resources utilization. Time and money are the resources in concern today. The virtual campus application assists the end user even from a remote location. The virtual world simulates the exact location and hence the effect is created. Thus, it virtually transports the user to the university, with the help of a VR Headset. This is a dynamic application wherein the user can move in any direction. The VR headset provides an interface to get gyro input and this is used to start and stop the movement. Virtual Campus is size efficient and occupies minimal space. It is scalable against mobile gadgets. This gaming application helps the end user to explore the campus, while having fun too. It is a user friendly application that supports users worldwide.

The primary objective of this study is to investigate the effect of reinforcing raw jute fibers on the mechanical properties of cement concrete composites. The investigation helps to explore more on the variation of properties of concrete with jute fibers, its effective usage and to reduce the usage of polymer fibers which interns an environmental harm. In the present study, raw jute fibers cut to 10 mm were used with the proportionate mix of cement, coarse aggregate and sand with the water-cement ratio of 0.45. The mixed specimens are casted for different volume content of jute fibers (0.2%, 0.4%, 0.6%, 0.8%, 1%, 1.2%, 1.4%, 1.6% and 1.8%) and cured for 3, 7 and 28 days. It is observed that the compressive strength of casted concrete coupon is increased from 8.8 N/mm2 to a maximum of 44.44 N/mm2 due to the addition of jute fibers. The maximum compressive strength is obtained for a concrete coupon of fiber content 0.4%. As the fiber content increased from 0.4 % the compressive strength get reduced, causing poor workability of concrete.

Non-availability of coarse aggregate affects the progress of the construction industry. This is the peak time to find alternate materials for the concrete construction. In this study, the potential of using brick chips as coarse aggregate is studied. The mechanical properties of concrete such as compressive and tensile strength, modulus of rupture and modulus of elasticity were determined. The variable of the study was coarse aggregate replacement ratio by volume. The virgin crushed stone aggregate was used as coarse aggregate in control mix. The coarse aggregate replacement ratio such as 0, 25, 50, 75 and 100 was used. The test results indicated that 25% of the virgin aggregate in concrete can be replaced without any modification in the mix design procedure.

Roof of majority of old buildings in Kerala is constructed with Mangalore pattern clay tiles. Hence, a large amount of broken clay tiles are produced during the demolition of these old buildings. In this study, the potential of using the broken clay tiles as aggregate in concrete is studied. The crushed natural stone aggregate in concrete is replaced by 25, 50, 75 and 100% by volume. The control mix containing natural aggregate and mix with clay tile aggregates partially or fully replaced prepared in the laboratory and tested. The compressive strength, modulus of elasticity, modulus of rupture, tensile strength were determined. The test results indicated that replacement of natural aggregate by 25% by volume with the broken clay tile can be recommended. Thereafter, the reduction in the strength is found to be significant.

A mobile ad hoc network (MANET) is an assemblage of nodes composed of mobile devices coupled in various ways wirelessly which do not have any central administration. Each node in MANET cooperates in forwarding packets in the network. This type of collaboration incurs high cost but there exits nodes that declines to cooperate leading to selfish conduct of nodes which effects overall network performance. To discover the attacks caused by such nodes, a renowned mechanism using watchdog can be deployed. In infrastructure less network attack detection and reaction and high false positives, false negatives initiating black hole attack becomes major issue in watchdog. This paper put forward a collaborative approach for identifying such attacks in MANET. Through abstract analysis and extensive simulation of this approach, the detection time of misbehaved nodes is reduced and substantial enhancement in overhead and throughput is witnessed.

Practice of biodegradable composites increase the attraction due to its lightweight and adequate strength. These plant fiber reinforced composites have captured the attention in construction and automotive industries. Jute fiber is one of the most affordable natural fibers obtained from the genus corchorus plant. In the present article woven jute fiber reinforced polymer composites are analysed to achieve the optimum layers and orientation of fibers for their peak mechanical properties. This study deals with the analysis of symmetrical and asymmetrical woven jute fiber reinforced polymers composite. Different types of composite test coupons are prepared based on number of layers and orientation of fibers like 0°, 15°, 30°, 45°, 60°, 75° & 90°. Polyester resin and Methyl Ethyl Ketone Peroxide is used as a matrix and catalyst respectively. Tensile and flexural strength properties are studied as per respective ASTM norms. The woven jute fiber composites with different orientation exhibits better mechanical properties than randomly oriented fibers. Tensile and flexural tests are conducted and the results are tabulated. It was also found that as the number of layers and orientation angle increases the strength's and modulus of composites are decreased.
