This article investigates the problem of estimating the state of discretized hyperbolic scalar partial differential equations. It uses a Godunov scheme to discretize the socalled Lighthill-Whitham-Richards equation with a triangular flux function, and proves that the resulting nonlinear dynamical system can be decomposed in a piecewise affine manner. Using this explicit representation, the system is written as a switching dynamical system (hybrid system), with an exponential number of modes. The estimation problem is posed using Kalman filtering in each of the linear mode, and the approach becomes computationally tractable by tracking the mode evolution as the estimation is performed at each time step. Numerical results are presented using the Mobile Millennium data set, and compared to results obtained using ensemble Kalman filtering, which is used for estimation in traffic monitoring.

Selection appropriate courses are one of the main student concerns in the universities which have direct major effects on their educational efficiency. Moreover the correct selections of the courses will decrease the student's educational failure. Prediction scores of the courses is one of the effective approaches which helps the students to select their courses intelligently. One can propose a model for predicting the student course scores based of the student's educational history. In this paper we propose a Bayesian Network model for prediction of student scores. The proposed model predicts the student's scores considering the students attributes and his educational history. To evaluate the efficiency of the proposed model, we use the GeNIe software(korb KB., Nicholson AE) to run experiments. We have tested our proposed model on 500 different students which has been studied in various Information technology university levels. The results show that applying our proposed method has main effects on the quality of the students and can be used as a helpful tool for them.

The treatment of HIV is complicated by the evolution of antiviral drug resistant virus and the limited availability of antigenically independent antiviral regimens. The consequences to the patient of successive virological failures is such that many strategies to minimize the occurrence of such failures are being investigated. In this paper, a Markov chain-based model of virological failure is introduced. This model considers sequential failure events, and differentiates between several modes of virological failure. This model is then used to evaluate the resistance- targeted interventions by means of testing the impact of a viral load preconditioning strategy on total treatment regimen longevity in HIV patients. It is shown that a proposed intervention targeting pre-existing resistance has the potential to increase the expected time to three sequential virological failures by an average of 3.3 years per patient. When combined with an intervention targeting patient compliance, the total potential increase in the time to three sequential virological failures is as high as 11.2 years. The impact on patient and public health is discussed.

This paper evaluates existing taxonomies aimed at characterizing the interaction between robots and their users and modifies them for health care applications. The modifications are based on existing robot technologies and user acceptance of robotics. Characterization of the user, or in this case the patient, is a primary focus of the paper, as they present a unique new role as robot users. While therapeutic and monitoring-related applications for robots are still relatively uncommon, we believe they will begin to grow and thus it isimportant that the spurring relationship between robot and patient is well understood.

Information exchange is difficult and often time consuming in power system because of incompatibility in hardware and software being used in power industry. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has prescribed several guidelines to ensure interoperability in future smart grid applications. In this paper, we will propose a geo-enabled framework based on Sensor Web to help synchrophasor data exchange without altering existing data acquisition technology being used in industry. It encapsulates existing incompatibility of power system by providing users a web-enabled querying mechanism for synchrophasor data in standards as prescribed by NIST. Data can be queried based on temporal, spatial and comparative parameters giving more control to user to be concise on requirement of data depending upon application. We have utilized open source technologies such as OpenPDC, Sensor Observation Service (SOS) to maximize interoperability.

Image registration is of great significance to medicine and remote sensing, so a lot of techniques have been developed within the context of one or the other discipline. This paper proposes an approach for medical image registration using Modified Gabor Wavelet Transform (MGWT) for Modified Adaptive Polar Transform (MAPT). This algorithm can be used to register images of the same or different modalities. This transform analyzes periodic signal components and presents the advantage of being independent of the window length. The performance of the Modified Gabor Wavelet Transform is compared with previous methods like Log Polar Transform and Adaptive Polar Transform. The results show that MGWT outperforms all evaluated model-independent methods with respect to identification accuracy. These results show that the basis of errors produced by the previous methods is the fixed working scale. The new method not only avoids this basis of errors but also makes a tool available for detailed study.
