Haptic devices are electro-mechanical tools controlled by computers that allow to recreate the sense of touch. They enhance the sense of interaction with virtual objects from purely visual to haptic and visual. One of its application areas is in training environments, where the users can interact with virtual objects to learn procedures or tasks. In this paper we describe the use of haptic devices to improve the learning process of basic physics concepts from electromagnetism and the haptic tools via simulation of magnetic forces in 3D. We have created three scenarios with different distribution of charges: point charge, line charge, and plane charge. Each scenario was properly calibrated and has different force feedback (quadratic, linear, and constant) depending on the scenario. We wanted to investigate how forces are perceived by students. A user study was carried out to assess students' perception and knowledge acquired when they were working with the system. Results suggest that students from the treatment group achieved better understanding than those from the control group. Results also indicate that 95% of the students considered that the use of haptic devices combined with appropriate virtual environments facilitated them to understand the nature and origin of electrical forces.

Component based software development has gained a lot of practical importance in the field of software engineering from academic researchers and also from industry perspective. Finding components for efficient software reuse is one of the important problems aimed by researchers. Clustering reduces the search space of components by grouping similar entities together thus ensuring reduced time complexity as it reduces the search time for component retrieval. In this research, we instigate a generalized approach for clustering a given set of documents or software components by defining a similarity function called hybrid XNOR function to find degree of similarity between two document sets or software components. A similarity matrix is obtained for a given set of documents or components by applying hybrid XNOR function. We define and design the algorithm for component or document clustering which has the input as similarity matrix and output being set of clusters. The output is a set of highly cohesive pattern groups or components.

Finding components for efficient software reuse is one of the important problems aimed by researchers. Clustering reduces the search space of components by grouping similar entities together thus ensuring reduced time complexity as it reduces the search time for component retrieval. In this research, we instigate a new a generalized approach for clustering a given set of documents or text files or components by defining a new similarity function called hybrid XOR function for the purpose of finding degree of similarity between two document sets or software components. We construct a matrix called similarity matrix of the order n-1 by n for a given set of n documents or components or patterns by applying hybrid XOR function. We define and design the algorithm for component or document clustering which has the input as similarity matrix and output being set of clusters formed dynamically as compared to other clustering algorithms that predefine the count of clusters. The output is a set of highly cohesive pattern groups or documents. The approach can be justified as it carries out very simple computational logic and efficient in terms of processing with reduced search space and can be also be used in general for document clustering or software component clustering.

Most of the patter search algorithms in literature are mostly string based and do not concentrate on finding sequential patterns with constraints in a given database. Also in query languages such as SQL or MySQL, the select clause does not allow the use of the non-aggregate functions as part of query compilation. The objective of this work is to propose a pattern mining algorithm which may be embedded into SQL or MySQL Query languages so that we can search for presence of sequential pattern in the database. The algorithm makes use of sliding sequential patterns with three look-ahead elements in the event of any mismatch.

Longshore currents are mainly generated by wave breaking, and defined as the nearshore current inside the surf zone, the importance of longshore current is its effects on initiation and transport of sediment. The convention methods of studying longshore current by physical experiment and empirical wave formulae were replaced by numerical model based on modified Boussinesq type wave equations to study the longshore currents and radiation sand group evolution of in coast of Jiangsu province. Directional spectrum wind wave was generated in pseudo three dimensional numerical wave basins to simulate the wave field with directional wind wave. Satellite map was used and compared with the numerical results. It is concluded the numerical model is of satisfactory accuracy and can be of engineering reference value in the design and planning of coastal structures and harbors.

Dropout rate between 20 to 80 percent has been reported in e-learning, so decreasing dropout rate is one of the major challenges of e-learning systems. The aim of this study is to identify the theories that explain the success rate of elearners. We used a quantitative content analysis by reviewing the findings of 24 major studies in this field. Findings revealed that motivational theories(f:13); self-regulated learning(f:6) and interaction(f:5) are the most important explanatory theories for elearner success. Results from 223 elearner at IUST elearning center showed that there are relationship between self-regulation and elearner dropout, in addition the results of t-test revealed that persistence elearner (M=3.50,SD=.66) had significantly high self-regulatory score than the dropout group (M=3.24,SD=.80), t=-2.54(221),p=.01.

In this paper, a ITO algorithm inspired by ITO stochastic process is proposed for Traveling Salesmen Problems (TSP), so far, many meta-heuristic methods have been successfully applied to TSP, however, as a member of them, ITO needs further demonstration for TSP. So starting from designing the key operators, which include the move operator, wave operator, etc, the method based on ITO for TSP is presented, and moreover, the ITO algorithm performance under different parameter sets and the maintenance of population diversity information are also studied.

IEEE 802.15.4 Low rate wireless personal area networks (LR-WPANs) offer device level wireless connectivity. They bring to light a host of new applications as well as enhance existing applications. Due to their low cost, low power consumption and self-organization features, LR-WPANs are ideal for applications such as public security, battle field monitoring, inventory tracking as well as home and office automation. Nevertheless, one critical issue, security, needs to be solved before LR-WPANs are commonly accepted. Pursuing security in LR-WPANs is a challenging task. On one hand, wireless communications are inherently susceptible to interception and interference. On the other hand, most devices in LR-WPANs are resource-constrained and lack physical safeguards. DDoS attacks are a major security problem in wireless networks. DDoS is that lots of clients simultaneously send service requests to certain server on the internet thro wireless network such that this server is too busy to provide normal services for others. Attackers using legitimate packets and often changing package information, so that traditional detection methods based on feature descriptions are difficult to detect it. To date, various approaches have been proposed to detect DDoS attacks, but with limited success when they are used in the real world. This paper mainly focus on comparative analysis of DDoS attacks, detection and mitigation techniques are generally used. Beside this, we investigate about the approaches proposed that are considered efficient to survive in DDoS attacks. Finally, we conclude by highlighting the potential areas which can be targeted to optimized in minimizing the effects of DDoS attacks

Ontologies are efficient way of getting a better idea about a particular domain. There are various forms of ontologies. Certain ontologies are reusable and are available online. Some other ontology can be developed for a specific purpose and are used to yield precise results in the field of knowledge engineering and automated tasks. If we want to gather information between different ontologies of different domains a cross ontology mining method has to be implemented for mining the semantic data. A framework has been discussed here for advanced ontology mining which can be very much useful to the semantic society.

Effects of a Web Based Lifestyle education on General Health and Severity of the Symptoms of Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS) among Female Students: A Randomized Controlled Trial

Context: Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) is a range of physical, emotional and behavioral symptoms. Objectives: A randomized controlled trial was conducted to determine the effects of a web based education on general health in students. Methods: A total of 104 women with PMS participated in the study and were randomly assigned to two groups. The instrument for data collection was a questionnaire. Results: The experimental group improved significantly general health (P≤0.001) as well as emotional, behavioral and physical components of PMS symptoms (P=0.007, p=0.04, and p=0.01 respectively) after intervention. Conclusions: The web-based training can lead to post-intervention improvements in general health and relief of PMS in female university students.
