As to the real-time positioning demands for micro assembly process, this paper proposes a way which is based on Relevance Vector Machine Regression (RVMR). It solves the low efficiency problem which usually accompanies other common regression algorithms because the regression pattern is not sparse enough. This paper brings out grading RVMR, adopting the thought what is called "From coarse to fine". In this way, the number of training samples is greatly reduced while guaranteeing precision. So the off-line training efficiency is improved, meeting various parts in micro assembly process. In this algorithm, the algebra feature of the part image is extracted as the RVM's input, using Principal Component Analysis (PCA). Experiments on many regression algorithms and grading RVMR are both carried on. The results show that RVMR gets the shortest measuring time and the highest accuracy. The single axis estimation precision of part attitude is better than 0.5°.

During the digital recognition process of digital display instrument, if there is no lighting or light is weak, the recognition rate comes low because of poor image quality. As to this problem, this paper proposes a new algorithm for image segmentation. The algorithm uses the histogram equalization to improve image contrast and enhance gray difference between the background and the area to be identified. And then it positions display area coarsely using the adaptive region growing method. Finally, the display area is precisely positioned by projection method. And adaptive threshold segmentation is done in this area. The experimental results show that the algorithm can rapidly and accurately position the display area of digital display instrument. And segmentation effect of the positioned image is improved obviously, effectively simplifying the subsequent digital recognition algorithms and guaranteeing its recognition accuracy.

Decomposition based approaches are known to perform well on many-objective problems when a suitable set of weights is provided. However, providing a suitable set of weights a priori is difficult. This study proposes a novel algorithm: preference-inspired co-evolutionary algorithm using weights (PICEA-w), which co-evolves a set of weights with the usual population of candidate solutions during the search process. The co-evolution enables suitable sets of weights to be constructed along the optimization process, thus guiding the candidate solutions toward the Pareto optimal front. Experimental results show PICEA-w performs better than algorithms embedded with random or uniform weights.

This paper focuses on evaluating the performance of two aperture averaging methods used for compensating the effects of the air turbulence in free space optical (FSO) communications. These methods are based on using a concentration lens and spherical concave mirrors (SCM). The preliminary experimental results show that the quality of the received signal in terms of the Q-factor and the scintillation index is moderately improved when employing a lens in comparison to SCM for all turbulence regimes. However, these results were obtained with different collection areas and focal points. Therefore, a more rigorous approach using lens and SCM with the same aperture diameters and focal lengths needs to be adopted to ensure conclusive results.

In this paper the problem of adaptive observer design in the presence of disturbances is studied, and an augmented adaptive observer is proposed. First, the H ∞ gain of a conventional adaptive observer is estimated, which characterizes the effect of disturbances on output errors. Next, it is shown that if the disturbance is “matched” in the plant equations, then it is possible to introduce additional sliding-mode feedback, dependent on the plant output, improving the accuracy of observation. Simulation results confirm the improvement.

A proposal for optimal control of a microgrid powered by solar energy with mixed temporary storage based on a battery bank and hydrogen is presented and evaluated here by means of simulations.
