A novel framework employing deep multi-attention channels network for the autonomous detection of metastasizing cells through fluorescence microscopy

We developed a transparent computational large-scale imaging-based framework that can distinguish between normal and metastasizing human cells. The method relies on fluorescence microscopy images showing the spatial organization of actin and vimentin filaments in normal and metastasizing single cells, using a combination of multiattention channels network and global explainable techniques. We test a classification between normal cells (Bj primary fibroblast), and their isogenically matched, transformed and invasive counterpart (BjTertSV40TRasV12). Manual annotation is not trivial to automate due to the intricacy of the biologically relevant features. In this research, we utilized established deep learning networks and our new multi-attention channel architecture. To increase the interpretability of the network - crucial for this application area - we developed an interpretable global explainable approach correlating the weighted geometric mean of the total cell images and their local GradCam scores. The significant results from our analysis unprecedently allowed a more detailed, and biologically relevant understanding of the cytoskeletal changes that accompany oncogenic transformation of normal to invasive and metastasizing cells. We also paved the way for a possible spatial micrometre-level biomarker for future development of diagnostic tools against metastasis (spatial distribution of vimentin). © 2023, CC BY-SA.

To better identify the objects in remote sensing images, the multispectral images with high spectral resolution and low spatial resolution, and the panchromatic images with high spatial resolution and low spectral resolution need to be fused. Many fusion techniques are discussed in the recent years to obtain images with high spectral resolution and also high spatial resolution. In this paper an image fusion technique, based on integrating both the Intensity-Hue-Saturation (IHS) and the Discrete Wavelet Frame Transform (DWFT), is proposed for boosting the quality of remote sensing images. A panchromatic and multispectral image from Landsat-7(ETM+) satellite has been fused using this new approach. Experimental results show that the proposed technique improves the spectral and spatial qualities of the fused images. Moreover, when this technique is applied to noisy and de-noised remote sensing images it can preserve the quality of the fused images. Comparison analyses between different fusion techniques are also presented and show that the proposed technique outperforms the other techniques.

The paper explores the possibilities of using augmented and virtual reality technologies to create distance online courses in order to ensure the acquisition of hard and soft skills of electrical engineering specialists. The use of 3D visualization, animation, sound accompaniment, subtitling in the development and formation of training courses of educational components allows you to fill it with the necessary informational content, immersing the student in a real production environment. The use of augmented reality allows you to adapt the educational process and provide the necessary competencies for the real technological process and equipment.

Bioimpedance is a commonly used method for various conditions monitoring. In this paper, the authors carried out some research where they implemented various smoothing filters to enable identification of the bioimpedance spectroscopy parameters. The proposed filtering methods may also be used for application on embedded systems, which have smaller computing power but have become recently very popular. The obtained results with the implementation of smoothing filters were promising, however, some of the obtained results were unsatisfactory. This work also contains a brief introduction to bioimpedance spectroscopy and smoothing filters.

The paper is devoted to study of the influence of rolling modes on the performance of powerful interconnected electric drives of a hot rolling mill under the action of an electromagnetic coupling circuit between the electric drives of the roughing and finishing groups. The action of the electromagnetic coupling circuit manifests itself in the form of the influence of impact loads of synchronous electric drives on the angular velocity of direct current electric drives of the finishing group of the mill. The parameters of the electromagnetic coupling circuit are determined by the power supply scheme and equipment parameters. Values of impact loads applied to a synchronous motor depend on the rolling process parameters, in particular, the chemical composition of the rolled steel and the temperature of the ingot. The paper presents the results of calculating the rolling power for various rolling mode parameters. Using mathematical modeling in Simulink, numerical estimates of the influence of rolling modes on the magnitude of the voltage drop in the power supply unit and the drop in the angular velocity of the electric drive of the finishing group were obtained on the example of a wide-strip hot rolling mill 1700 of ArcelorMittal Temirtau JSC.

Developing robust and reliable control code for autonomous mobile robots is difficult, because the interaction between a physical robot and the environment is highly complex, it is subject to noise and variation, and therefore partly unpredictable. This means that to date it is not possible to predict robot behaviour, based on theoretical models. Instead, current methods to develop robot control code still require a substantial trial-and-error component to the software design *** iterative refinement could be reduced, we argue, if a more profound theoretical understanding of robot-environment interaction existed. In this paper, we therefore present a modelling method that generates a faithful model of a robot's interaction with its environment, based on data logged while observing a physical robot's behaviour. Because this modelling method — nonlinear modelling using polynomials — is commonly used in the engineering discipline of system identification, we refer to it here as “robot identification”.We show in this paper that using robot identification to obtain a computer model of robot-environment interaction offers several distinct advantages:*** compact representations (one-line programs) of the robot control program are *** model can be analysed, for example through sensitivity analysis, leading to a better understanding of the essential parameters underlying the robot's behaviour, *** generated, compact robot code can be used for cross-platform robot programming, allowing fast transfer of robot code from one type of robot to *** demonstrate these points through experiments with a Magellan Pro and a Nomad 200 mobile robot.

A discrete thermal network is given as an equivalent circuit of the steady‐state thermal performance characteristics of circuit breakers. The immediate environment of the enclosure and the feeders of the unenclosed switching device are the boundaries of the equivalent circuit, which specifically models the central phase of a three‐phase circuit breaker. computer simulations make it possible to analyse the thermal system performance in rated service. Generalization Analysis of Machine Learning Algorithms via the Worst-Case Data-Generating Probability Measure

In this paper, the worst-case probability measure over the data is introduced as a tool for characterizing the generalization capabilities of machine learning algorithms. More specifically, the worst-case probability measure is a Gibbs probability measure and the unique solution to the maximization of the expected loss under a relative entropy constraint with respect to a reference probability measure. Fundamental generalization metrics, such as the sensitivity of the expected loss, the sensitivity of the empirical risk, and the generalization gap are shown to have closed-form expressions involving the worst-case data-generating probability measure. Existing results for the Gibbs algorithm, such as characterizing the generalization gap as a sum of mutual information and lautum information, up to a constant factor, are recovered. A novel parallel is established between the worst-case data-generating probability measure and the Gibbs algorithm. Specifically, the Gibbs probability measure is identified as a fundamental commonality of the model space and the data space for machine learning algorithms. © 2023, CC BY.

The article presents the material type from which the conductors of the overhead power lines are produced influences on the size of the overhang and the tension. The aim of the calculations was to present the benefits of the mechanics of the cable resulting from the type of cable used. The analysis was performed for two types of cables: aluminium with steel core and aluminium with composite core, twice span power line section. 10 different conductor-to-strand coil, wind, icing, and temperature variations were included in the calculations. The string description was made by means of a chain curve, while the horizontal component H of the tension force was determined using the bisection method. The loads were collected in accordance with applicable Eurocode.
