Non-invasive estimation of chlorophyll content in plants plays an important role in precision agriculture. This task may be tackled using hyperspectral imaging that acquires numerous narrow bands of the electromagnetic spectrum, which may reflect subtle features of the plant, and inherently offers spatial scalability. Such imagery is, however, high-dimensional, therefore it is challenging to transfer from the imaging device, store and investigate. We propose a machine learning pipeline for estimating chlorophyll content from hyperspectral data. It benefits from the Savitzky-Golay filtering to smooth the (potentially noisy) spectral curves, and from gradient-based features extracted from such a smoothed signal. The experiments revealed that our approach significantly outperforms the state of the art according to the widely-established estimation quality metrics obtained for four chlorophyll-related parameters. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

A simulation approach was proposed to analyze the spectra of Doppler signals in local expansion artery, which can provide a useful guidance for detecting the formation and growth progress of the aneurysms using the Doppler ultrasound technology and forecasting the size of aneurysm. Firstly, by solving Navier-Stokes equations, the velocity distributions in the vessels with various expansion degrees are calculated. Secondly, power spectral density (PSD) of the Doppler signals is estimated according to the relationship of velocity profiles and power spectral density. Finally, Doppler signals are generated using cosine-superposed methods. The results show that the spectra of Doppler signals are similar to those found in practice. Therefore, the proposed approach is useful for simulating the spectra of Doppler ultrasound signals. © 2010 IEEE.

The aim of the paper is to develop a model of the ignition system for combustion engines with spark ignition described by two-port network equations. The mathematical calculations based on generalized parameters of a two-port network were used to develop the model. This allowed for the analysis of voltages and currents on the terminals of the model (without calculating voltages and currents inside the two-port network). The results of simulations for the developed model are presented. © 2017 IEEE.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is critical in evolving 5G and developing 6G networks, running on edge devices, and solving resource management challenges. The burgeoning number of edge devices draws attention to the potential of low-earth orbit (LEO) satellite networks with their onboard computing capabilities for edge inference. This paper explores LEO scenarios where multiple remote sensing edge AI inference tasks concurrently process data from a single source. However, due to there being parts with the same functions between different AI applications, traditional monolithic edge AI architecture must be deployed repeatedly and falls short in efficiently harnessing the heterogeneous resources of LEO satellite networks. To solve this problem, we utilize the microservice architecture to decouple a single AI application into several independent microservices to reuse these same functions. However, due to the high latency caused by multiple microservices' communication, we need to design a deployment strategy to fully utilize resources to reduce the service latency. We present a microservice deployment model to minimize the total service latency across all AI applications and meet resource constraints with the constraints of hardware, energy, and memory limitations. This latency optimization problem is rewritten as a Markov decision process (MDP) to effectively deal with the challenge posed by the time-varying transmission rate caused by satellite mobility. To increase the training data utilization, we employ a Proximal Policy Optimization (PPO) based reinforcement learning algorithm to meet the dynamic environment challenge. Finally, we obtain a sub-optimal solution with minimal accuracy loss and an acceptable solution time. © 2024 IEEE.

Intelligent fault diagnosis (IFD) plays an important role to increase the safety and reliability of rotating machinery. In recent years, there is a large number of deep-learning-based algorithms applied to IFD. Many studies have shown that the one-dimension convolutional neural network (1D-CNN) performs well in fault diagnosis on original vibration signals. However, the original vibration signals are very complicated and difficult to analyze directly. Some critical information is often hidden in different frequency subbands, such as some fault state is only related to specific subbands. In order to enhance the learning progression well organized for the 1D-CNN model, the proposed approach is based on wavelet packet decomposition (WPD) and 1D-CNN. First, decompose the original vibration signal into different frequency subbands with WPD to make the signals more concise. Next, to be compatible with the 1D-CNN model, we proposed a novel 1D-CNN with multi-resolution (CNN-MR) and the experiment result according to Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) Bearing Data Center. Through CNN-MR, it achieves high accuracy for fault diagnosis. © 2021 IEEE.

A High-Performance Extraction Method for Public Opinion on Internet

Aiming at the importance of the analysis for public opinion on Internet, the authors propose a high-performance extraction method for public opinion. In this method, the space model for classification is adopted to describe the relationship between words and categories. The combined feature selection method is used to remove noisy words from the original feature space effectively. Then the category weight of words is calculated by the improved formula combining the frequency of words and distribution of words. Finally, the class weights of the not-categorized documents based on the category weight of words are obtained for realizing opinion extraction. Experiment results show that the method has comparatively high classification and good stability.

This paper is concerned with signal predictive subband quantization in oversampled filter banks. It uses the analysis tools of robust filtering and control to obtain a worst case power spectral analysis of the prediction error system. The analysis removes the unrealistic assumptions on the quantization noises in the present literature and leads to the definition of H ∞ optimal signal predictor. Based on this analysis, an LMI optimization based method is obtained to design the H∞ optimal signal predictor with guaranteed inverse stability. Simulation results are presented to show the advantages of the H∞ optimal signal predictor over the conventional signal predictor. ©2008 IEEE.

The paper presents the results obtained by the authors during the research done on the efficient usage of photovoltaic panels and proposes performant numerical methods for the estimation of the maximum power point (MPP). The P(U) and P(I,U) models are computed for the BGSP - P225 solar panel model. For the first model, P(U), the paper proposes a polynomial interpolation search algorithm and for the P(I,U) model an optimal gradient algorithm, respectively. The performances obtained with these methods are evaluated and the main results are commented. The implementation of the search algorithms for the maximum power point is important for the computation of the set point given to the control systems, which control the photovoltaic panel, in order to obtain optimal photovoltaic generated power.

Cybersecurity has in recent years emerged as a paramount concern in the design and operation of industrial systems and civil infrastructures, due mainly to their susceptibility to malicious cyber attacks which take advantage of the vulnerability of communication networks and IT devices. In this paper, we investigate such an attack and counter attack scenario by considering multiagent systems, a somewhat basic prototype of cyberphysical systems. We study false data injection attacks launched on the agent sensors, and possible defense of such attacks at the agent actuators. The primary issue under consideration is the stealthiness of the attacks, while steering a multiagent system away from its consensual state. We propose a metric to quantify the stealthiness, and formulate the stealthiness problem as one of zero-sum games. We solve the problem explicitly, which gives rise to a fundamental bound on the stealthiness achievable, and as well optimal attack and defense strategies that achieve the optimal stealthiness, both of which can be obtained in terms of certain augmented controllability Gramians associated with the agents. The stealthiness bound is seen to depend on agent dynamics and network characteristics including a measure of connectivity. © 2024 IEEE.

Torque calculations in electrical machine models. A sliding surface technique

The paper deals with the electromagnetic torque computations in models of rotating electrical machines utilizing the Lagrange sliding surface technique for rotor movement representation. Various interpolating functions are tested to construct a coupling algorithm for moving and stationary regions. Two different formulas for torque calculation are used. The error in torque computations is assessed using two models of induction machines. The reference models are those of the same machines but applying the moving band technique. The best interpolation algorithm is found from the analysis and its accuracy is assessed by comparison with other algorithms. The analysis is carried out under assumption of uniformly distributed nodes at the sliding interface and is addressed to two-dimensional finite element models based on first order approximation.
