In this work, we present the modeling of the dynamics of a robot manipulator using the Newton-Euler algorithm in the conformal algebra framework. The modeling of the dynamics of robot manipulators is currently done using the Euler-Lagrange formulation which is a batch type of computation. In contrast, in this paper, we propose a recursive algorithm for the modeling of the dynamics of robot manipulators using the Newton-Euler algorithm in the conformal geometric algebra framework.

Typical autonomous driving systems are a combination of machine learning algorithms (often involving neural networks) and classical feedback controllers. Whilst significant progress has been made in recent years on the neural network side of these systems, only limited progress has been made on the feedback controller side. Often, the feedback control gains are simply passed from paper to paper with little re-tuning taking place, even though the changes to the neural networks can alter the vehicle's closed loop dynamics. The aim of this paper is to highlight the limitations of this approach; it is shown that re-tuning the feedback controller can be a simple way to improve autonomous driving performance. To demonstrate this, the PID gains of the longitudinal controller in the TCP autonomous vehicle algorithm are tuned. This causes the driving score in CARLA to increase from 73.21 to 77.38, with the results averaged over 16 driving scenarios. Moreover, it was observed that the performance benefits were most apparent during challenging driving scenarios, such as during rain or night time, as the tuned controller led to a more assertive driving style. These results demonstrate the value of developing both the neural network and feedback control policies of autonomous driving systems simultaneously, as this can be a simple and methodical way to improve autonomous driving system performance and robustness.

Access to restricted spaces underwater requires a small unencumbered camera. A low cost solution has been envisaged. It consists of an hermetic capsule enclosing the camera and lights, joined to the host by an umbilical. Along the umbilical go six water carrying ducts. Three of them end at backwards pointing nozzles located at the capsule body. The jets of water flowing from the nozzles are controlled and their forces allow some restricted positioning of the camera. Another three ducts end at nozzles located some distance up the umbilical, and allow greater maneuverability.

This paper describes the different communication patterns followed in industrial communications and maps them into DDS (Data Distribution Service) which is a recent middleware specification. This specification follows the publisher/subscriber paradigm and it is characterized by providing an API that allows tuning the QoS (Quality of Service) of the applications with a large set of parameters. This paper proposes using DDS as the backbone for industrial communications at the control level. In particular, we advocate its use to combine sending critical information such as alarms and real-time periodic information with less critical information related to configuration, diagnostic or maintenance operations. © 2011 AISTI.

Object control requires the calculation of a regulator. One of the most effective methods for calculating the regulator is the method of numerical optimization of the regulator. This paper discusses the solution of the problem of controlling a linear object of the sixth order, the parameters of which are such that this high order significantly and negatively affects the possibilities of successfully managing this object. Using the traditional approach to the design problem of the controller (regulator) allows us to formally solve the problem;however, the result of this solution is not satisfactory. The use of additional derivation does not give any noticeable improvement. A solution to this problem is proposed by using pseudo-local feedback, moreover, this connection is supposedly most effective if it covers one of two identical links in the object model. This allows for a smoother attenuation of the frequency response of the object in the region where the action of these two links begins to affect. For pseudo-local communication, an additional PID controller is used, the coefficients of which are also determined by the method of numerical optimization. The optimization result allows us to conclude that the presence of an integral element in this controller is optional. The calculation result of such a composite controller meets the most stringent requirements for the quality of control, since in such a system the speed is increased at least twice, the oscillations, which were about 10% in amplitude, are completely eliminated, the robustness of the system is ensured, which is verified by changing all the controller coefficients by 5% up and down, and also by changing the time constant of the element of the pseudolocal loop by 10% up and down, changes in the transition process of the system in this case remain are acceptable. © 2019 IEEE.

In this paper, an adaptive decentralized controller is presented to attenuate the transversal vibration of a flexible cablestayed bridge induced by seismic excitation, in which only local sensor information has been used to generate the control signal that is sent to the actuator. The dynamic behavior of the beam structure is characterized by a nonlinear mathematical model with interconnection terms, which was obtained by using technique of finite element. The controller design is made based on the principle of sliding mode such that a priori knowledge on the exact value of system parameters, structural disturbances and the seismiic excitation is not required. In particular, it is assumed that the upper and lower bounds for the seismic excitation are also unknown. The closed-loop robust stability has been achieved through the generation of a sliding motion in the system. Nu-merical simulation is done to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme for a scaled model of the bridge subject to the Taft earthquake. © 1999 American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). In this paper, a new tool for system identification and model predictive control (MPC) has been developed. The mathematical approximation of the model identification was derived using the neural network theory. The emphasis of this paper is to employ a multi-layer recurrent neural network with three layers to match an autoregressive-moving average (ARMA) model in the identification stage to provide the mathematical model for the model predictive controller in the control stage. The tool was designed using LabVIEW software and the MathScript facility. The tool can be used to identify and control simulated or real systems using the stored input/output data of the system. © 2022, Politechnica University of Bucharest. All rights reserved.

For cascaded systems, interactions among individually designed power subsystems may cause the instability of the whole system. Regulating the input impedance of the load converter is an effectively way to solve this problem, however, one big challenge of this method is how to consider the stability of cascaded system and the dynamic performance of load converter together. In light of this, this paper proposes a parallel-virtual-impedance (PVI) control strategy to improve the input impedance of the load converter. The proposed virtual impedance is in parallel with the load converter, via the proposed virtual impedances, the magnitude and phase of the input impedance of the load converter is modified only in a small range of frequency. As a result, this method not only solves the instability problem of the cascaded system, but also keeps a good dynamic performance for load converter. This paper discusses the concept, realization and design consideration of the proposed strategy in detail. Finally, a 100 W cascaded system, which consisting of an LC filter and a 48V-12V buck converter, is built to verify the correctness of the proposed methods 1 .

Human gait analysis provides qualitative and quantitative information concerning different characteristics of walking of a certain person. Cloud computing proves to be a modern and valuable technology when dealing with data scalability, security and efficiency of processing and storage. Also, this paradigm has some key-benefits like real-time data sharing, fast computation as well as collaborative research. The applications gamut which uses cloud computing is getting bigger and bigger, and healthcare sector is an important domain in this respect. Our approach proposed a cloud-based service designed for the automated assessment of medical rehabilitation of human gait by using video processing. We have chosen this processing technology because it is marker-less, allows fast computation and offers a very good precision of the gait analysis. Cloud computing approach proved to be encouraging and underscores remarkable advantages in comparison with traditional on-site video processing. In this way the patient, after a short training session, can himself/herself make tests and assessments of his/her mobility status, avoiding many consultations of medical or kineto-therapeutic staff.
