'The cloud' points out to servers, the databases and software that run on those servers. The Internet has always been constructed of infrastructure, servers and clients. Clients send their requests to servers, and servers reply, but cloud computing is distinct in the form that cloud servers are not just replying to requests with on-demand processing but they are saving data and running programs instead of the client. Cloud computing is a technology that is crossing a great expansion today. In cloud computing you can dynamically expand resources without knowledge of a new infrastructure, without developing new software or preparing new staff and to access such great technology the only things that are asked for are an Internet connection and an Internet browser. The goal of this survey is to present the different cloud security threats and recognize the proper security mechanism used to reduce them. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper presents an algorithmic approach for segmenting news broadcasts produced by television stations. The proposed approach uses advanced signal processing techniques to extract and classify audio segments from Romanian TV news broadcasts. By using derivative of 1-dimensional Gaussian filter and binary classification models, this paper aims to automatically identify and classify news segments into categories such as studio news, field news, commercials and music breaks. The primary objective of this paper is to develop a segmentation methodology optimized for reduced computational memory and quick processing. By leveraging efficient computational techniques, the news segmentation can be performed in a timely manner without compromising accuracy. This optimization is crucial for real-time or near-real-time applications within TV networks, facilitating tasks such as content monitoring and analysis.

Plagiarism is a well-known problem that impacts the academic community. The escalation of source code plagiarism affects the quality of computer science and technology education. This article approaches a novel architecture for an academic plagiarism detection system focused on projects and source code. A part of the detection process is based on a few already existing open-source tools. All the system components use the OpenStack Cloud platform services for scalability, parallel processing of files, and load balancing. The solution also integrates with an identity and access management system, which contains users, roles, and cohorts. The proposed solution is an efficient approach for both organizing assignments at which students upload projects and for detecting plagiarism in all the submitted assignments. © 2023 IEEE.

Most research addressing OCR through machine learning techniques is focused on the actual algorithms and on using the MNIST data set as the de facto benchmark. Little effort was made to extend the data set or to build an entirely new one. Furthermore, support for characters other than English ones is mostly limited. This paper presents an OpenStack based approach that aims to overcome this last limitation by providing a community-oriented solution for developing and maintaining richer, language agnostic, community-shared data sets for OCR based applications. The proposed architecture is integrated with OpenStack services and relies on new Cloud perspectives, such as Function-as-a-Service (FaaS), to achieve a greater degree of flexibility. The included modules allow users to upload their own data sets, select or fine-tune their desired pre-processing methods, and derive the required features for their target character set. Both the input and the output data are stored using OpenStack specific data services and are shared for all the users of the Cloud deployment. An interesting feature is that the underlying FaaS functionality would also allow interested parties to upload their own pre-processing and feature extraction stages. © 2023 IEEE.

This review aims to contribute to the quest for artificial general intelligence by examining neuroscience and cognitive psychology methods for potential inspiration. Despite the impressive advancements achieved by deep learning models in various domains, they still have shortcomings in abstract reasoning and causal understanding. Such capabilities should be ultimately integrated into artificial intelligence systems in order to surpass data-driven limitations and support decision making in a way more similar to human intelligence. This work is a vertical review that attempts a wide-ranging exploration of brain function, spanning from lower-level biological neurons, spiking neural networks, and neuronal ensembles to higher-level concepts such as brain anatomy, vector symbolic architectures, cognitive and categorization models, and cognitive architectures. The hope is that these concepts may offer insights for solutions in artificial general intelligence. © 2024, CC BY-NC-SA.

In response to the escalating demand for electricity, the aging process and inherent failures in power lines have become unavoidable challenges in their operational integrity. This research addresses the imperative need for a robust method to detect damage in power insulator disc images, introducing a novel feature extraction technique grounded in color intensity profile transformation and ensemble learning. For the purposes of the research, a specific dataset was developed based on publicly available images of power insulators. The collection consists of 9232 images of insulator discs which included 2184 images of damaged discs. The discernible damages include breakages and burnouts. Two distinct analysis variants were employed. In the first variant (V1), two classification groups were selected: disc with damages and disc without damages. In the second variant (V2), three classification groups were selected: discs without damage, broken discs, and burnout discs. The described research was divided into two successive stages. In the first of them (S1), the transformed color intensity profiles for the prepared data set were built and various machine learning models for their classification were trained and evaluated. In the next stage (S2), previously developed, highest efficient machine learning models, were used to make the detection of various damaged types of overhead line insulator discs. For the first stage of research high-performance results and a high value of the F1 score parameters were obtained (F1 score = 0.999 for the first variant (S1V1) and F1 score = 0.992 for the second variant (S1V2). In the second stage of research and the first variant (S2V1), the highest result of the F1 score was 0.932 and for the second variant (S2V2) F1 score was 0.930. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

Recent advancements in machine learning (ML) have significantly impacted the medical field, particularly in diagnosing and treating breast cancer. This study models the time from diagnosis to treatment for breast cancer patients, focusing on delay factors and ML-based solutions. The goal is to develop precise ML models that predict treatment delays, thereby improving the quality and efficiency of medical services. We investigated socio-economic disparities affecting treatment access and developed models to predict these delays. The predictive models used include K-Nearest Neighbors, Decision Trees, Linear Regression, and Boosting Algorithms such as AdaBoost and Gradient Boosting Regressor. By accurately predicting the interval from diagnosis to the first treatment, our work aims to promote equity in healthcare, ensuring timely treatment for all patients. Our findings highlight the potential of ML in optimizing treatment timelines and resource allocation, contributing to improved patient outcomes and advancing the medical system.

This paper presents a RISC-V extension, called RiscDaqExt designed for Digital Acquisition and control over 32 individually managed digital channels. Each channel can be configured as input or output, inputs can be negated or filtered before being recorded using specific masks and output channels source can be chosen between values given with a mask, result of a multi-signal operation on specified inputs or a PWM signal generated by the SigWavy extension. The extension is also capable of measuring PWMs frequencies and duty cycles. The extension is controlled using a dedicated ISA extension containing instructions for setting/getting configuration/values and for controlling the storing records of 32 signals values with 32-bit timestamps to an attached DDR3 memory or directly to hosting PC’s RAM via Ethernet. The proposed solution, embedded into the RISC-V CPU named RiscDaq manages to initiate an Ethernet transmission of digital records 9.78x times faster than a MicroBlaze microcontroller, although our SoC operates with a 4x lower frequency, and outputs the result of logical operation performed over maximum 31 digital channels, with a constant 20 ns propagation delay, 49.2x times faster than a Cortex-M7 clocked at a 6x times higher frequency.

This elaboration presents the synthesis of the Takagi-Sugeno type Fuzzy Logic controller realizing the programmable parameters of the state feedback controller together with the steady state current for the active magnetic levitation system. Closed-loop dynamics was calculated precisely with respect to the requested dynamics. Two cases were considered: fixed-and variable-closed-loop dynamics. The Fuzzy Logic controller was considered under four scenarios with linear, nonlinear, and constant in-range output. The study was supported by simulations and experimental investigations. This paper details the integration of augmented reality (AR) in a new factory, focusing on enhancing maintenance efficiency and optimization. The innovative approach involves combining AR technology, an Android application, and Siemens PLCs (Programmable Logic controller), for efficient automation. Continuous development is suggested through the addition of more 3D mechanical drawings and real-Time stock information for parts in the application, aiming for future optimization and performance enhancement. © 2024 IEEE.
