Graphics processing units (GPU) are an integral part of today's computing environment. The marketing emphasis on user experience pushes vendors to constantly look for better graphics hardware and newer drivers to integrate into their products. Most commodity GPUs function as accelerators for image and video processing tasks and are present (either as dedicated or integrated form factor) in everyday devices including desktops, laptops, smartphones or other portable gadgets. Recent trends have seen the GPU move to perform additional tasks such as offloading some of the computation from the CPU or solve highly parallel problems. As GPUs become more powerful and widespread they will naturally become a very attractive target for attackers. Cybercriminals will look for any vulnerability in the GPU hardware or software, and will try to use it as an attack vector to compromise the system. This paper presents some of the incidents that involve the use of GPUs to perform malicious actions and proposes a framework to allow analysts to inspect the code executed on the GPU and trigger security alerts. The proposed solution will look at the processes running inside an operating system, it will identify which of them require access to the GPU and will try to intercept and scan for any suspicious activities, similar to a conventional security solution. © 2021 IEEE.

This report explores the experimental identification of magnetic flux density within the motor air gap, focusing on the development of a robot-based approach to automate the scanning procedure. Emphasis is placed on analyzing the distribution of magnetic flux within the motor’s spatial air gap, as well as the amplification of harmonics resulting from changes in air gap orientation. Drawing upon experimental findings, a model is proposed to illustrate the three-dimensional distribution of magnetic flux within the gap.

Hierarchical Classification of Transversal Skills in Job Ads Based on Sentence Embeddings

This paper proposes a classification framework aimed at identifying correlations between job ad requirements and transversal skill sets, with a focus on predicting the necessary skills for individual job descriptions using a deep learning model. The approach involves data collection, preprocessing, and labeling using ESCO (European Skills, Competences, and Occupations) taxonomy. Hierarchical classification and multi-label strategies are used for skill identification, while augmentation techniques address data imbalance, enhancing model robustness. A comparison between results obtained with English-specific and multi-language sentence embedding models reveals close accuracy. The experimental case studies detail neural network configurations, hyperparameters, and cross-validation results, highlighting the efficacy of the hierarchical approach and the suitability of the multi-language model for the diverse European job market. Thus, a new approach is proposed for the hierarchical classification of transversal skills from job ads. © 2024, CC BY-NC-ND.

Modeling uncertainty has been an active and important topic in the fields of data-driven modeling and machine learning. Uncertainty ubiquitously exists in any data modeling process, making it challenging to identify the optimal models among many potential candidates. This article proposes an uncertainty-informed method to address the model selection problem. The performance of the proposed method is evaluated on a dataset generated from a complex system model. The experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method and its superiority over conventional approaches. This method has minimal requirements for the length of training data and model types, making it applicable for various modeling frameworks.

Human gait analysis provides qualitative and quantitative information concerning different characteristics of walking of a certain person. Cloud computing proves to be a modern and valuable technology when dealing with data scalability, security and efficiency of processing and storage. Also, this paradigm has some key-benefits like real-time data sharing, fast computation as well as collaborative research. The applications gamut which uses cloud computing is getting bigger and bigger, and healthcare sector is an important domain in this respect. Our approach proposed a cloud-based service designed for the automated assessment of medical rehabilitation of human gait by using video processing. We have chosen this processing technology because it is marker-less, allows fast computation and offers a very good precision of the gait analysis. Cloud computing approach proved to be encouraging and underscores remarkable advantages in comparison with traditional on-site video processing. In this way the patient, after a short training session, can himself/herself make tests and assessments of his/her mobility status, avoiding many consultations of medical or kineto-therapeutic staff.

Weighting Attributes Based on the Greedy Algorithm Properties

Estimation of importance for considered features is an important issue for any knowledge exploration process and it can be executed by a variety of approaches. In the research reported in this study, the primary aim was the development of a methodology for creating attribute rankings. Based on the properties of the greedy algorithm for inducing decision rules, a new application of this algorithm has been proposed. Instead of constructing a single ordering of features, attributes were weighted multiple times. The input datasets were discretised with several algorithms representing supervised and unsupervised discretisation approaches. Each resulting discrete data variant was exploited to construct a ranking of attributes. The effectiveness of the obtained rankings was confirmed through a rule filtering process governed by weighted attributes. The methodology was applied to the stylometric task of authorship attribution. The experimental outcomes demonstrate the value of the proposed research method, as it generally led to improved predictions while taking into account a noticeably decreased sets of attributes and decision rules.

With the rapid development of information technology, the Internet of Things (IoT) has become more complex, and more and more devices and users are connected to the IoT system. While improving data interactivity and expanding the scope of data sharing, secure access to IoT resources is also facing great risks. Therefore, it is necessary to design an appropriate access control scheme. Firstly, this paper introduces Decentralized Identifiers (DID) and Verifiable Credentials. It is used for authentication and rights management of users and devices, respectively, which makes identity and authority unforgeable. Secondly, this paper uses blockchain technology to support DID and Verifiable Credentials, which can ensure the decentralization, invariance and traceability of data. Finally, using smart contracts enables automatic processing of requester authorization and access requests. The test results show that the scheme has good performance. © 2022 IEEE.

When the terminal sub-device sends data to the main device of the peer avionics system, it faces the related problems of data loss, blurred transmission, and format parsing errors. In response to these problems, this paper combs the basic concept and basic topology structure of the airborne bus 1553B applied to the master-slave equipment of the avionics system, analyzes the application method of the 1553B bus in the avionics system for high-efficiency and high-precision data transmission, and proposes an industrial control system. The scheme of optimizing data transmission between master and slave devices through 1553B bus access to the avionics system provides a new research idea for the development of data communication between master and slave devices in the real avionics system. The data communication monitoring system of the master-slave equipment of the electrical system will avoid risks for future real scenarios in terms of data analysis, data flow, and whether the transmission and reception are successful on the ground. © 2022 IEEE.

Magnetic nanoparticles can be embedded in electrospun nanofibers and other polymeric matrices to prepare magnetic composites with defined magnetic and mechanical properties. Metal-oxide nanoparticles, such as magnetite or nickel-ferrite, are of special interest since they do not need a coating to avoid oxidation. Like other nanoparticles, these metal-oxide nanoparticles tend to form agglomerations, in this way modifying the magnetic properties of the composites. After studying this effect for the magnetic elements Co, Fe, Ni as well as permalloy (Py) in a previous study, defining a new method to quantify the nanoparticle distribution in a polymer, here we concentrate on the influence of agglomerations on the magnetic properties of metal-oxide nanoparticles with different diameters in non-magnetic matrices. © 2022

Quantum computing is progressing at a fast rate and there is a real threat that classical cryptographic methods can be compromised and therefore impact the security of blockchain networks. All of the ways used to secure blockchain like Rivest–Shamir–Adleman (RSA), Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC) and Secure Hash Algorithm 256-bit (SHA256) are the characteristic of the traditional cryptographic techniques vulnerable to attack by quantum algorithms: Shor’s and Grover’s algorithms: can efficiently break asymmetric encryption and speed up brute force attacks. Because of this vulnerability, there exists a need to develop an advance quantum resilient blockchain framework to protect the decentralized ledgers from the future threats of the quantum. This research proposes Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC), Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) and Quantum Random Number Generation (QRNG) as a formidable architectural integration, to fortify security of blockchain. Classical encryption is replaced with PQC, QKD with secure key exchange by detecting eavesdropping, and QRNG with improving cryptographic randomness to remove the predictable key vulnerability. Only with a small loss of transaction efficiency, we increase transaction encryption accuracy, key exchange security, and resistance to quantum attacks. In this quantum enhanced blockchain design, the idea is to preserve the decentralization, transparency and security and at the same time overcome the future quantum threat. By going through rigorous analysis and comparative evaluation, we demonstrate that the approach saves blockchain networks from the emerging quantum risks to make sure that the decentralized finance, smart contracts and cross chain transactions. © (2025), (science and Information Organization).
