The growth of the Internet has caused the development of new protocols that enable IP networks to be engineered efficiently. One such protocol, multiprotocol label switching (MPLS) enables IP networks with quality of service to be traffic engineered well. Rerouting of label switched paths (LSP) is caused due to link or node failure or recovery, connection admission or load balancing. In this paper, we deal with the problem of reroute sequence planning of LSPs. We introduce a number of new heuristic approaches, and refinements into the existing ones, which are evaluated by simulation using data from real network topologies. Results show that two of the new heuristic approaches behave better than the existing ones and improve the performance.

A novel object-oriented methodology for the design of model libraries is exemplified by means of the design of JARA. JARA is a set of libraries of dynamic hybrid models of some fundamental physical-chemical principles. Its main application field is the modelling of physical-chemical processes in the context of automaticcontrol. Only a reduced set of phenomena has been selected for modeling, focusing mainly on illustrating relevant aspects of the proposed design methodology. A technique for real time path planning of under-actuated robots is developed. The real time path-planning problem is posed as a finite time nonlinear control problem, which is solved in parallel with an optimization technique in the real time. A new controller that is called the Fault Tolerant Motion controller (FTM) is developed. Also a new measure that we called the Reliability Index (RI) is proposed to monitor, instantly, the performance of the FTM. Simulation studies are presented.

Advances in scheduling theory have given designers of control systems greater flexibility over their choice of timing requirements. Advances in scheduling theory have given designers of control systems greater flexibility over their choice of timing requirements. This could lead to systems becoming more responsive, more flexible and more maintainable. However, experience has shown that engineers find it difficult to exploit these advantages due o the difficulty in determining the "real" timing requirements of systems and therefore the techniques have delivered less benefit than expected. Part of the reason for this is that the models used by engineers when developing systems do not allow for emergent properties such as timing. This paper presents an approach and framework for addressing the problem of identifying an appropriate and valid set of timing requirements and their corresponding control parameters based on a combination of static analysis and simulation.
