This paper deals with a formal description of ill-defined processes (fuzzy systems) by the use of fuzzy relational equations. It is pointed out that fuzzy relational equations form a generalized version of the difference equations widely considered in control theory. Some equivalence between these two kinds of description is presented. Basic problems of fuzzy systems e.g. identification, prediction, sensitivity and stability are shown and numerical algorithms are given. Indices of each method are introduced (especially the degree of fuzziness, the sensitivity index) which makes it possible to express the quality of each of them.

Not many papers deal with the problem evaluaging the fuzziness measures of fuzzy set. In this paper it is shown that the special kind of energy measure the so called degree of fuzziness can be more useful in many practical situations of decision making. The application of energy measure as a quality index used for fuzzy control and prediction in fuzzy systems is discussed in details.

In this paper the singular optimal control problem of linear discrete-time system with fixed end points and free final time is investigated. Expression for the optimal control is obtained by changing the problem to a minimum norm problem with linear constraints and applying some appropriate theorems. Existence, uniqueness, and optimality are proven. Iterative relationships to compute the main matrix in the optimal control expression are given. In order to simplify and reduce the computations a significant suboptimal control is described. It is shown that the suboptimal control aproaches the system to the final desired state each time of its application, moreover, it is gauranteed to reach the final state in finite steps.

An examination is made of linear regulator problems with an additional cost for applying a nonzero control at each instant. The dual of this problem is the least-squares filtering problem with a cost for taking measurements. Because a solution to the general problem involves solving a two point boundary value problem in nonlinear matrix differential or defference equations, two easily-computed suboptimal control schemes and some useful bounds are proposed. A class of problems is also delineated for which the optimum solution has some special properties which enable it to be computed simply and directly.
