The article presents results of experimental identification of MR (magnetorheological) damper model for an off-road vehicle. Original shock-absorbers of the vehicle were replaced by suspension MR dampers supplied by a dedicated measurement and control system. The vehicle includes several sensors which allow to observe electric currents controlling MR dampers, forces generated in the front vehicle suspension columns and other sensors which measure deflection of these suspension parts. The front part of the semi-active suspension was tested using laboratory setup with vibration mechanical exciters generating sinusoidally variable excitation at frequency equal to 12 Hz. MR dampers were directly controlled by peripheral electronic units generating different constant currents equal to 0, 0.11 and 0.37 A. As a result, evaluated force-velocity characteristics and analysis of MR damper behaviour in the target vehicle were carried out. Further steps of analysis included mathematical description of the selected MR damper using several types of MR damper models, i.e.: Bingham and hyperbolic tangent function models as well as their variants including first-order output dynamics. It was shown that the dynamic model based on hyperbolic tangent function offers the best fitness to the response of the actual MR damper with respect to the mean-squared error. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2023.

Traffic light system plays a critical role in solving congestion in current urban traffic environment, where moving from pre-programed traffic lights systems to traffic adapted systems is a natural development. In this paper we present a new traffic control concept using fuzzy logic adaptive control for traffic light timing strategies to minimize the time vehicles spend in the intersection, as an optimization criteria in an Intelligent Transportation System. We also propose simulation tools to enable in-detail analysis for adaptive traffic light system based on road sensing and several strategies for pre-programed and adaptive stroke concepts. © 2019, Politechnica University of Bucharest. This paper presents a preliminary study on the use of machine learning-based methods to select the appropriate parameters of cascade filters in the analysis of brain signals recorded using functional infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS), which shows the level of oxygenation in the brain and, unlike EEG signals (showing electrical brain activity), are less prone to potential interference, disturbances or artifacts occurrence. © 2023 IEEE.

Although the numerical linear algebra algorithms are very popular in many applied areas, the quantification of their time complexities and the convergence analysis have not been widely covered in the literature. We illustrate by different types of numerical methods selected on relevant criteria, such as hybrid or entropy variants, that are identified, presented, and implemented as efficient algorithms on parallel computers. This paper reveals how the time and complexity of the algorithms are defined and quantified and shows the usefulness of these concepts for the design of efficient large linear solvers by illustrating them in dense matrix computations. One of the aims of this study is the observation of parallel tasks, which are of numerical nature and can arise in many interdisciplinary engineering approaches and consequently in many programming problems, as well as finding and analyzing general algorithms in linear algebra, which are useful in many solutions involving the big data paradigm. We also demonstrate how to evaluate the worth of such methods, how to prove their competitiveness, and how they can be mutated to allow parallel computations, as well as challenging and beating methods used for benchmarking in this aspect. © 2023, The Authors. The formation of platoons, where groups of vehicles follow each other at close distances, has the potential to increase road capacity. In this paper, a decentralized control approach is presented that extends the well-known constant headway vehicle following approach to the two-dimensional case, i.e., lateral control is included in addition to the longitudinal control. The presented control scheme employs a direct vehicle following approach where each vehicle in the platoon is responsible for following the directly preceding vehicle according to a nonlinear spacing policy. The proposed constant headway spacing policy is motivated by an approximation of a delay-based spacing policy and results in a generalization of the constant headway spacing policy to the two-dimensional case. By input-output linearization, necessary and sufficient conditions for the tracking of the nonlinear spacing policy are obtained, which motivate the synthesis of the lateral and longitudinal controllers of each vehicle in the platoon. By deriving an internal state representation of the follower vehicle and showing input-to-state stability, the internal dynamics for each leader-follower subsystem are shown to be well-behaved in case the leader drives in steady state conditions (i.e., the leader vehicle's trajectory is unexcited). The results are illustrated by a simulation.

Aiming at the navigation problem of unmanned vehicles in extreme environments such as communication interference and limited GPS signals, this study proposes an autonomous navigation method based on binocular cameras. The method enables the unmanned vehicle to complete the task of localization and map building using only binocular images, without the need for other sensors or signal sources. Meanwhile, this study also proposes a local path planning obstacle avoidance method based on depth map, which, when combined with global localization information, can take into account both local obstacle avoidance and global path navigation, and can cope with random environmental changes. The system uses a single sensor for autonomous obstacle avoidance and navigation, which reduces the computational requirements and ensures the low cost of the navigation system. In order to verify the reliability and effectiveness of the system under signal-constrained conditions, the system is evaluated in a simulation environment and a real field scenario, respectively. The experimental results show that the system is able to achieve reliable localization and path planning under signal-constrained conditions.

This study addresses the affine formation maneuver control of cooperative multi-agent systems (MAS) having periodic inter-agent communication for both static and dynamic leader cases. Here, we focus on the leader-follower MASs. The primary aim of the control system is to steer the entire collection of agents to produce required patterns (geometric) along with any required maneuver through the direct control of only few a selected agents referred to as leaders. Most of the existing works are constrained to either the individual agents communicate with each other in continuous-time or the sample-data scenario where the leaders are stationary or have constant acceleration or velocities. Here, we consider the scenarios where the velocities of the leaders can be time-varying or constant. Here, different cases are addressed and some control laws are proposed. Conditions are established to help guarantee the overall stability of the systems. A simulation study is employed for the illustration of our proposed laws.

In this paper, we propose a Secure Energy Management System (SEMS) with anomaly detection and Q-Learning decision modules for Automated Guided Vehicles (AGV). The anomaly detection module is a multi-task learning network to simultaneously classify suppliers and predict the real supply quantities. The Q-learning decision module can then determine operating reserve and subsidies to manage the energy grid. Experimental results illustrate that the proposed anomaly detection module has an excellent performance in classifying malicious suppliers, excels at shaping supply distribution, and outperforms the existing benchmark systems.

In recent years, online social networks and online news venues have become some of the main news and event-related information spreading mediums. Although using these mediums has facilitated the speed of accessing information, it also created a new phenomenon used for propaganda and disinformation: fake news. As fake news has detrimental consequences to society, new technologies need to be developed in order to stop their harmful effects. In this paper, we propose two Bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory (BiLSTM) architectures with sentence transformers to solve two tasks: (1) a multi-class mono-lingual fake news detection task (i.e., mono-lingual task);and (2) a multi-class cross-lingual fake news detection task (i.e., cross-lingual task). For the mono-lingual task, we train and test a BiLSTM with BART sentence transformers model on an English dataset and obtain an accuracy of ∼ 0.53 and an F1-Score of ∼ 0.32. For the cross-lingual task, we train a BiLSTM with XLM sentence transformers model on an English dataset and test the model using transfer learning on a German dataset. For this task, we obtain an accuracy of ∼ 0.28 and an F1-Score of ∼ 0.19. © 2022 Copyright for this paper by its authors.
