Internet users rely on the good capabilities of TCP/IP networks for dealing with congestion. Classic algorithms, such as drop tail or even RED, do not give good results under many situations. The network delay and the number of users fluctuate from one moment to the next. Predictive control can deal with these conditions so performance can be improved. This paper presents how predictive control, with on-line linearized models, performs better than PID or classic predictive control when dealing with control congestion, because changes in the network delay and the current number of users can be updated in the model. Non-linear simulations illustrate the advantages and disadvantages of the various methods under different working scenarios.

This paper deals with the boiler control problem proposed as a benchmark for the IFAC Conference on Advances in PID controllers (PID'12). This boiling process is a multivariable nonlinear system that shows interactions and is subjected to input constraints. As proposal, in this work, a PID control by inverted decoupling with feedforward compensation is developed. The design simplicity and easiness of implementation are highlighted. Experiment simulations considered in the benchmark show that the proposed design achieves better performance indexes than those of the reference cases.

This paper presents a distributed event-based control approach to cope with communication delays and packet losses affecting a networked dynamical system consisting of N linear time-invariant coupled systems. Two communication protocols are proposed to deal with these communication effects. It is shown that both protocols preserve the system stability in the sense that the state of every subsystem converges to a small region around the origin if the delay and the number of packet losses are bounded. Analytical expressions for the delay bound and the maximum number of consecutive packet losses are derived. Simulations illustrate the results.

This paper discusses predictive motion control of a MiRoSoT robot. The dynamic model of the robot is deduced by taking into account the whole process - robot, vision, control and transmission systems. Based on the obtained dynamic model, an integrated predictive control algorithm is proposed to position precisely with either stationary or moving obstacle avoidance. This objective is achieved automatically by introducing distant constraints into the open-loop optimization of control inputs. Simulation results demonstrate the feasibility of such control strategy for the deduced dynamic model.
