This article presents a wide, proprietary range of Emotiv Epoc Flex Gel headset applications for EEG signal measurement. It is about its use in systems involving artificial intelligence, such as artificial neural networks and expert systems. The constantly developing field of biomedical engineering as well as newer and more advanced BCI (brain-computer interface) systems require their designers to constantly develop and search for various innovative methods used in their creation. In response to practical requirements and the possibility of using the system in real conditions, the authors propose an advanced solution using EEG signal analysis (electroencephalography). An AI-based approach to designing the BCI system was used for advanced signal analysis. The article contains a detailed description of two applications based on artificial intelligence using EEG signals. The first one, for controlling a mobile robot using mental commands. The second one, on the other hand, for controlling a mobile robot with verification in the form of an EMG signal. This article provides a comprehensive overview of the integration of the Emotiv Epoc Flex Kit with proprietary AI systems and its significant impact on the field. © 2023 CEUR-WS. Non-invasive estimation of chlorophyll content in plants plays an important role in precision agriculture. This task may be tackled using hyperspectral imaging that acquires numerous narrow bands of the electromagnetic spectrum, which may reflect subtle features of the plant, and inherently offers spatial scalability. Such imagery is, however, high-dimensional, therefore it is challenging to transfer from the imaging device, store and investigate. We propose a machine learning pipeline for estimating chlorophyll content from hyperspectral data. It benefits from the Savitzky-Golay filtering to smooth the (potentially noisy) spectral curves, and from gradient-based features extracted from such a smoothed signal. The experiments revealed that our approach significantly outperforms the state of the art according to the widely-established estimation quality metrics obtained for four chlorophyll-related parameters. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Most of the nowadays applications are client-server based. Exposing a webservice is a common practice, but the question is: what happens when the webservice is exposed from a low-level programming language? How can we manage to avoid the most common mistakes which can introduce vulnerabilities into the application? This paper focuses not only on some of the best practices when developing a webservice using $\mathrm{C}++$, but also on improving the security of that webservice. We proposed a series of methods to enhance the security of the application and some of them were validated using an empirical approach. Through comprehensive testing and analysis into a controlled environment, we confirmed that using a digital certificate on the server side can minimize the impact of the famous “man-in-the-middle” attack. We simulated two types of attacks on the developed webservice: a passive one – “sniffing” and an active one – “man-in-the-middle”. The results underscore the fact that webservice security can also be enhanced even if it is developed using a low-level programming language.

In the context of continuous digitalization in all business areas, cyber-attacks became a major challenge. The data security component is a priority in the development of this changing environment. There have been many types of cyber-attacks such as Distributed Denial-of-Service, Malware Attack, Password Attack, or SQL Injection Attack that have affected different countries around the world. These security vulnerabilities led to data exfiltration or unavailability of certain critical services for long periods of time, while causing significant material damage. In order to properly manage the problems that may occur, it is necessary for any entity offering services on the Internet to have a cyber security component. Moreover, for a better coordination in the response to cyber incidents, it is necessary to train the teams providing these services. The development of capabilities can be achieved in a controlled environment, where different types of real-life attacks are simulated. A classic training method is considered to be a Red vs. Blue competition. In this paper, a different strategy is proposed, in which the two types are combined in a Red and Blue scenario. To develop it, a central system is needed to generate the information to be captured, to validate its accuracy and to monitor the availability of services. Also, through this, it was possible to observe the behaviour of the players and how they improve their knowledge. Compared to the Red vs. Blue version, the proposed one in which the teams are combined offers more advantages for understanding how a hacker acts and for reducing the response time in case of a cyber security incident. © 2022 IEEE.

Hydraulic system comprehension forms the pillar ofnumerous engineering fields;however, its academic assimilation remains intricate. Addressing this, our research introduces a digital twin-enabled virtual hydraulic workstation simulator developed in Automation Studio™. This simulator mirrorsa tangible hydraulic workstation, including its multifaceted components, to enhance the pedagogical paradigm of hydraulic education. We ensure the symbiosis of theoretical understanding and practical application by meticulously modeling 3D hydraulic components and executing analogous simulations. Our key findings spotlight the utility of time-dependent system behavior graphs in bolstering educational insights. The paper underscores the significance of digital twin solutions in university programs, mainly when physical resources are scarce, reinforcing educational technology’s potential to facilitate studentengagement in technically dense arenas. ©2024 IEEE.

Developing safety-critical cyber-physical systems (CPS) relies heavily on human interaction and cognitive assessment. The possibility to evaluate with real-time data certain scenarios between the CPS and its components brings benefits in increasing the performance of the systems. Thus, this paper proposes the concept of co-simulation in which physical systems and communication systems can be modeled simultaneously, starting from two possible applications usually encountered (energy and medicine). The co-simulation method started from the real case study of a microgrid, where the data from the hardware components were sent both to a located application and an application over 250 km away, in this way simulating possible security breaches, data accuracy, and transmission errors. A later simulation framework was created for the case study in medicine that will be analyzed based on the work methodology created, but maintaining the particularities of critical applications in medicine and the necessity of customizing scenarios and contextual analyses for a pharyngoesophageal prosthesis.

Brunovsky Riccati Recursion for Linear Model Predictive control

In almost all algorithms for Model Predictive control (MPC), the most time-consuming step is to solve some form of Linear Quadratic (LQ) Optimal control Problem (OCP) repeatedly. The commonly recognized best option for this is a Riccati recursion based solver, which has a time complexity of O(N(n3x + n2xnu + nxn2u + n3u)). In this paper, we propose a novel Brunovsky Riccati Recursion algorithm to solve LQ OCPs for Linear Time Invariant (LTI) systems. The algorithm transforms the system into Brunovsky form, formulates a new LQ cost (and constraints, if any) in Brunovsky coordinates, performs the Riccati recursion there, and converts the solution back. Due to the sparsity (block-diagonality and zero-one pattern per block) of Brunovsky form and the data parallelism introduced in the cost, constraints, and solution transformations, the time complexity of the new method is greatly reduced to O(n3x + N(n2xnu + nxn2u + n3u)) if N threads/cores are available for parallel computing. This study presents an advanced data analysis for developing a predictive model for the gross operating profit time series, using monthly data from two Polish hotels compliant with the Uniform System of Accounts for the Lodging Industry (USALI). Emphasizing the USALI data, the research utilized the Nonlinear Autoregressive Neural Network with exogenous inputs (NARX) to capture both linear and nonlinear trends. Extensive testing involved eight neural network learning methods across double layer networks with 5 to 30 neurons in the hidden layer and various sizes of delay parameter. Learning by demonstration, human-to-robot skills transfer or visual perception and control are tasks that can be tackled with techniques that combine machine vision and deep learning. In this paper, we take a step further from the classic deep learning based on the special Euclidean group (SE3) parameterization of displacement and motion. Considering an isomorphism between SE3 and the orthogonal dual tensor group, we propose an architecture that is set to improve the accuracy of computing the motion parameters. Thus, we introduce orthogonal dual tensors-convolutional neural network ({ widehat {{ mathbf{S}} mathbb{O}}-3}-CNN), a deep neural network set to learn from depth data how to extract semantic information regarding the layout of crobot's segments while recovering the rigid displacement for each segment. To validate the design of { widehat {{ mathbf{S}} mathbb{O}}-3}-CNN, we employ a state-of-the-art database. The experimental results show that rigid displacements are estimated with higher accuracy by { widehat {{ mathbf{S}} mathbb{O}}-3}-CNN in comparison with a state-of-the-art SE3-CNN. © 2022 IEEE.

Electroencephalogram (EEG) signals can be used for discriminating between ictal and non-ictal phases, to protect people affected by epilepsy. Recent studies show the ability of autoencoders (AEs) to learn valuable EEG abstractions that can be effectively processed by classifiers. To some extent, information from previous frames could be useful for detection. However, the design should avoid using AEs with large input sizes, to prevent unsuccessful feature learning. This paper discusses AE-based schemes which allow the investigation of multiple successive frames. A hierarchical feature extractor is introduced to correlate long-term information via AEs of reduced input sizes, to support easy training. The experimental results indicate improved detection accuracy for the classification based on the proposed multi-frame hierarchical feature extractor, compared to feature extractors that work on a single frame, or use a priori/ a posteriori aggregation of frames. © 2022 IEEE.
