The new descriptor in processing of vibroacoustic signal of knee joint

The article provides a proposal for the processing of a time-frequency plane, obtained by STFT and spectrogram, to extract the characteristics features of VAG vibroarthrographic signals of the knee joint. The authors present three new descriptors, enabling initial diagnosis in the direction of classification to the following disease classes: healthy knee, I- II- III- stage of chondromalation and osteoarthritis. Descriptors are based on the time-mariginal condition, obtained by cutting a portion of the time-frequency plane of the spectrogram and its low-pass filtration. Descriptors consider following features of the time-marginal condition: averaging of local maximum, number of maximum and averaging values of slopes. Research were carried out on 184 patients. Research prove significant diagnostic potential of the descriptors. Moreover white noise influence on the results were also investigated.

Initial Study on Using Emotiv EPOC+ Neuroheadset as a control Device for Picture Script-Based Communicators

In this paper idea of using various non-invasive Brain-Computer Interfaces (BCI) was in detail presented, in particular BCI-systems using Emotiv EPOC+ headset. This work also describes both concept and project of a system designed for communication of physically disabled patients with external environment using Emotiv EPOC+ headset. The project is still at initial stage, however Graphical User Interface (GUI) was designed and developed based on a pictograph writing system. As the project is still on preliminary stage the system was only tested with the implementation of an inexpensive, above mentioned EEG device (Emotiv EPOC+), which was also in detail characterized and described. © 2018

Distributed Optimal Power Flow for VSC-MTDC Meshed AC/DC Grids Using ALADIN

The increasing application of voltage source converter (VSC) based high voltage direct current (VSC-HVDC) technology in power grids has raised the importance of incorporating DC grids and converters into the existing transmission network. This poses significant challenges in dealing with the resulting optimal power flow (OPF) problem. In this paper, a recently proposed nonconvex distributed optimization algorithm—Augmented Lagrangian based Alternating Direction Inexact Newton method (ALADIN), is tailored to solve the nonconvex AC/DC OPF problem for emerging voltage source converter (VSC) based multiterminal high voltage direct current (VSC-MTDC) meshed AC/DC hybrid systems. The proposed scheme decomposes this AC/DC hybrid OPF problem and handles it in a fully distributed way. Compared to the existing state-of-art Alternating Direction Method of Multipliers (ADMM), which is in general, not applicable for nonconvex problems, ALADIN has a theoretical convergence guarantee. Applying these two approaches to VSC-MTDC coupled with an IEEE benchmark AC power system illustrates that the tailored ALADIN outperforms ADMM in convergence speed and numerical robustness. The paper presents a novel approach to investigating mistakes in machine learning model operations. The considered approach is the basis for BrightBox – a diagnostic technology that can be used for analyzing prediction models and identifying model- and data-related issues. The idea is to generate surrogate rough set-based models from data that approximate decisions made by monitored black-box models. Such approximators are used to compute neighborhoods of instances that undergo the diagnostic process — the neighborhoods consist of historical instances that were processed in a similar way by rough set-based models. The diagnostic process is then based on the analysis of mistakes registered in such neighborhoods. The experiments performed on real-world data sets confirm that such analysis can provide us with efficient and valid insights about the reasons for the poor performance of machine learning models. © 2023

Paper presents problems connected with collection, initial processing and validation of data from smart electric meters AMI installed in energy consumption points. Collected data should be then identified and classified. If the lack of data was detected they should be adequately estimated. Extreme disturbances in data sequences should be reduced too. The around-the-clock loads profiles are modelled on base of recorded and processed measurements. Verified profiles are used in estimation of missing data. The methods of modelling the around-the-clock loads profiles as well as the possibilities and methods of using the obtained models in estimation of missing data presented in the paper.

Model-based Dependability Analysis of Fault-tolerant Inertial Navigation System: A Practical Experience Report

Model-based systems engineering approaches are commonly used to develop safetycritical mechatronic systems. Recently, a new SysML-based method for the dependability analysis of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) has been introduced. The method consists of three main steps: (i) creation of a structural SysML model using building blocks from the underlying UAV dependability profile that extends the model with block-level reliability and time properties, (ii) transformation of the semi-formal SysML model into a formal Dual-Graph Error Propagation Model (DEPM) that captures relevant structural and behavioral properties of the system, (iii) DEPM-based evaluation of system dependability metrics using Markov chain models and state-of-the-art probabilistic model checking techniques. This paper describes the practitioner experiences and lessons learned after the application of the aforementioned method to a sophisticated real-world embedded fault-tolerant inertial navigation system. The case study revealed two particular limitations that have been overcome by the optimization of the method against the state-space explosion of underlying Markov chain models and the introduction of a new computation algorithm for DEPMs with realistic extremely low fault activation probabilities.

Implementation of an External Laser Scanner into control System of the NAO Robot

The paper describes an algorithm for supporting the control of the humanoid robot NAO, using an external system, equipped with a laser scanner. The use of an external 2D laser scanner clearly increases the reliability of robot movements in a closed area. The proposed algorithm is implemented and tested in an external system that supervises the navigation of the NAO robot. It combines information from built-in robot sensors with the additional computational capabilities of an external control system, as well as the laser scanner data. The proposed system enables the possibility of fast and convenient localisation and navigation of one or more robots in a close environment. © 2018

This paper presents an advanced control algorithm, which accounts for an additional impact of a castor wheel on a tri-wheel robot's trajectory. It demonstrates how to use the information on the angle of twist in order to limit the errors stemming from odometry. Thanks to applying the proven relationship between the trajectory's curvature and the angle of twist of a castor free wheel, we reduced the driving wheels' rotation errors in the robot's motion along the desired trajectory.

Distributed AC Optimal Power Flow: A Scalable Solution for Large-Scale Problems

This paper introduces a novel distributed optimization framework for large-scale AC Optimal Power Flow (OPF) problems, offering both theoretical convergence guarantees and rapid convergence in practice. By integrating smoothing techniques and the Schur complement, the proposed approach addresses the scalability challenges and reduces communication overhead in distributed AC OPF. Additionally, optimal network decomposition enables efficient parallel processing under the single program multiple data (SPMD) paradigm. Extensive simulations on large-scale benchmarks across various operating scenarios indicate that the proposed framework is 2 to 5 times faster than the state-of-the-art centralized solver IPOPT on modest hardware. This paves the way for more scalable and efficient distributed optimization in future power system applications. Copyright © 2025, The Authors. All rights reserved.
