Background: To evaluate the effect of the weighting of input imaging combo and ADC threshold on the performance of the U-Net and to find an optimized input imaging combo and ADC threshold in segmenting acute ischemic stroke (AIS) lesion. Methods: This study retrospectively enrolled a total of 212 patients having AIS. Four combos, including ADC-ADC-ADC (AAA), DWI-ADC-ADC (DAA), DWI-DWI-ADC (DDA), and DWI-DWI-DWI (DDD), were used as input images, respectively. Three ADC thresholds including 0.6, 0.8 and 1.8 × 10^–3 mm²/s were applied. Dice similarity coefficient (DSC) was used to evaluate the segmentation performance of U-Nets. Nonparametric Kruskal–Wallis test with Tukey–Kramer post-hoc tests were used for comparison. A p <.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: The DSC significantly varied among different combos of images and different ADC thresholds. Hybrid U-Nets outperformed uniform U-Nets at ADC thresholds of 0.6 × 10^–3 mm²/s and 0.8 × 10^–3 mm²/s (p <.001). The U-Net with imaging combo of DDD had segmentation performance similar to hybrid U-Nets at an ADC threshold of 1.8 × 10^–3 mm²/s (p =.062 to 1). The U-Net using the imaging combo of DAA at the ADC threshold of 0.6 × 10^–3 mm²/s achieved the highest DSC in the segmentation of AIS lesion. Conclusions: The segmentation performance of U-Net for AIS varies among the input imaging combos and ADC thresholds. The U-Net is optimized by choosing the imaging combo of DAA at an ADC threshold of 0.6 × 10^–3 mm²/s in segmentating AIS lesion with highest DSC. Cloud service providers (CSP) provide on-demand cloud computing services, reduces the cost of setting-up and scaling-up IT infrastructure and services, and stimulates shorter establishment times for start-ups that offer or use cloud-based services. Task reneging or dropping sometimes occur when a task waits in the queue longer than its timeout or execution deadline, or it is compromised and must be dropped from the queue or as an active queue management strategy to avoid tail dropping of tasks when the queues are full. Reneged or dropped tasks could be resubmitted provided they were not dropped due to security reasons. In this paper, we present a simple M/M/c/N queueing model of a cloud computing physical machine, where the interarrival times and the services times are exponentially distributed, with N buffer size and c virtual machines running in parallel. We present numerical examples to illustrate the effect of task reneging and task resubmission on the queueing delay, probability of task rejection, and the probability of immediate service. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2020.

The paper presents current cybersecurity issues in industrial automation and control systems (IACS). It also reviews the state of the art in literature, standards and frameworks used to evaluate and certify industrial control devices. Nowadays the Common Criteria (CC) security assurance methodology is commonly used for the vast majority of information technology (IT) products but not for IACS components. The paper proposes a security evaluation method of IACS to be based on the CC approach. The CC standard has not been used in industry so far and this is why it became the main motivation of the author’s doctoral research work in that field. The implementation of CC security requirements can enhance the "safety" of functional features in control devices by adding "security" measures typical of IT products. The paper delivers input information to the first stage of the author’s research whose goal is the identification of design needs and requirements for building the security evaluation method. As a result, in the next stage, the evaluation method can be built according to the model of a control system and to the criteria taken from the CC standard adjusted to IACS needs. Coupling both "security" and "safety" for industrial control systems is a promising way of using the CC assurance methodology for a new kind of devices. © Springer International Publishing AG, part of Springer Nature 2019.

In this paper an innovative approach in providing formalised method of analysis AGILE policies was in short presented. For the purpose of such policies validation the Definition Language was undertaken. The European eSafety initiative aims to improve the safety and efficiency of road transport. The main element of eSafety is the pan-European eCall project—an in-vehicle system which idea is to inform about road collisions or serious accidents. As estimated by the European Commission, the implemented system will reduce services’ response time by 40%. This will save 2,500 people a year. In 2015, the European Parliament adopted the legislation that from the end of March 2018 all new cars from the EU should be equipped with the eCall system. The limitation of this idea is that only small part of cars driven in UE are brand new (about 3.7% brand new cars were sold in 2015). This paper presents the first concept of an onboard eCall device which can be installed at the owners’ request in used vehicles. The proposed system will be able to detect a road accident, indicate the number of vehicle’s occupants, report their vital functions, and send that information to dedicated emergency services via duplex communication channel. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2019.

The aim of the study was to determine the intensity distribution of optical radiation in the range of: ultraviolet, visible and infrared, emitted by electrical discharges. Optical spectra were analyzed for different configurations types of high voltage electrodes for the possibility of using the obtained spectra to recognize these configurations types. Studies were conducted in laboratory conditions for electrodes of different geometrical shapes. Electric discharges were generated in the air under identical atmospheric conditions. The applied experimental method was based on the registration of the emitted optical radiation intensity. For the analysis of the emission radiation in the ultraviolet, visible and infrared range, was used the method of optical spectroscopy based on a high-resolution spectrometer with a spectral range of 200 nm - 1100 nm. Additionally was used an UV camera for detailed analysis of the phenomenon in the ultraviolet range.

Paper considers measurements and analysis of acoustic emission signals emitted by surface partial discharges generated in various dielectric liquids under laboratory conditions. Natural and synthetic ester and mineral oil were investigated. The influence of supply voltage on the no of acoustic emission signals and on acoustic emission amplitude, within a measuring second and in supply voltage period (20 ms) were determined and discussed.

The aim of this paper is to review and classify typical disturbances that occur in the computer/wireless networks and discuss the impact that some of them may have on the control quality in the networked control systems. We will demonstrate that even not a very complex control task involving programmable PID-type controller and an inertia system will may convert into a non-trivial task when performed not in a traditional closed-loop hard-wired system but rather a system when the control loop closes over a communication network.

This paper discusses a comprehensive model of a mobile robot with a no-slip self-adjusting off-centered orientable wheel. Subsequently, by application of dynamic control, a comparison is made between two robot models: one accounting for the effect of the off-centered orientable wheel and another one excluding this effect. The aspects considered in the study include not only the error resulting from the drive along a given trajectory but also the consumption of energy of the compared models.
