Context. Microlensing events provide a unique way to detect and measure the masses of isolated, non-luminous objects, particularly dark stellar remnants. Under certain conditions, it is possible to measure the mass of these objects using photometry alone, specifically when a microlensing light curve displays a finite-source (FS) effect. This effect generally occurs in highly magnified light curves, i.e. when the source and the lens are very well aligned. Aims. In this study, we analyse Gaia Alerts and Gaia Data Release 3 datasets, identifying four moderate-to-high-magnification microlensing events without a discernible FS effect. The absence of this effect suggests a large Einstein radius, implying substantial lens masses. Methods. In each event, we constrain the FS effect and therefore establish lower limits for angular Einstein radius and lens mass. Additionally, we use the DarkLensCode software to obtain mass, distance, and brightness distribution for the lens based on the Galactic model. Results. Our analysis established lower mass limits of ∼ 0.2 M☉ for one lens and ∼ 0.3 − 0.5 M☉ for two others. DarkLensCode analysis supports these findings, estimating lens masses in the range of∼ 0.42 − 1.66 M☉ and dark lens probabilities exceeding 60%. These results strongly indicate that the lenses are stellar remnants, such as white dwarfs or neutron stars. Conclusions. While further investigations are required to confirm the nature of these lenses, we demonstrate a straightforward yet effective approach to identifying stellar remnant candidates. © 2025, CC BY.

Passive thermographic measurement is susceptible to multiple factors. However, there are not many evidences of how these factors impact the measurement of human hand skin temperature evolution after cold stress inducement, especially in patients with inflammatory lesions. The study aimed at the analysis of the variability factors in: heat source, environment conditions including material designed for placing hand, blood circulation, blood pressure and their effect on the hand infrared image of RA patients. Thermal image sequences were collected for 10 RA patients. The procedure consisted of hand immersion in ice-water for 5 seconds and 3-minute recording of temperature evolution for left and right hand, separately. Impact of the following factors was included in the analysis: heat source, material designed for placing hand, blood circulation. The plane, which is heated by the heat of the hands, emits radiation with similar intensity like the hand itself. During the process of hand warming, we observe gradual changes in the image of superficial veins. Blood vessels should be treated as an element of hand texture. The glow around the hand is a serious difficulty in the analysis. Development of dedicated algorithms is necessary.

Unmanned aerial vehicle application for air pollution monitoring

The paper presents a test system for measuring air pollution based on a unmanned aerial vehicle. Thanks to the usage of multi-socket microprocessor system, it is possible to measure simultaneously up to six different chemical compounds. Additionally, the humidity and pressure on the platform are measured. The wireless connection enables to save data locally and remotely. Data evaluation is performed by the flying unit carrying the designed and manufactured by authors device. The test was performed on the industrial cement plant site. Measurement results were visualised according to flight coordinates.

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted gaps in health surveillance systems, disease prevention, and treatment globally. Among the many factors that might have led to these gaps is the issue of the financing of national health systems, especially in low-income and middle-income countries (LMICs), as well as a robust global system for pandemic preparedness. We aimed to provide a comparative assessment of global health spending at the onset of the pandemic;characterise the amount of development assistance for pandemic preparedness and response disbursed in the first 2 years of the COVID-19 pandemic;and examine expectations for future health spending and put into context the expected need for investment in pandemic preparedness. Methods: In this analysis of global health spending between 1990 and 2021, and prediction from 2021 to 2026, we estimated four sources of health spending: development assistance for health (DAH), government spending, out-of-pocket spending, and prepaid private spending across 204 countries and territories. We used the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD)'s Creditor Reporting System (CRS) and the WHO Global Health Expenditure Database (GHED) to estimate spending. We estimated development assistance for general health, COVID-19 response, and pandemic preparedness and response using a keyword search. Health spending estimates were combined with estimates of resources needed for pandemic prevention and preparedness to analyse future health spending patterns, relative to need. Findings: In 2019, at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, US$9·2 trillion (95% uncertainty interval [UI] 9·1–9·3) was spent on health worldwide. We found great disparities in the amount of resources devoted to health, with high-income countries spending $7·3 trillion (95% UI 7·2–7·4) in 2019;293·7 times the $24·8 billion (95% UI 24·3–25·3) spent by low-income countries in 2019. There is need to replace the traditional materials used in mechanical constructions with cheaper materials characterized by high durability and simplicity of manufacturing. An alternative technology is 3D printing technology that uses ABS material (poly (acrylonitrile-co-butadiene-co-styrene)). 3D printing technology ensures the rapid change of model dimensions and shapes at the prototyping stage and a relatively cheap cost of new elements. There are many plastic materials producers on the market for a 3D printer. In this paper two of them have been choosen to a comparison and their mechanical parameters have been determined. The modal analysis of this material was carried out and the obtained values of resonance frequencies were compared.

Development and test verification of air temperature model for Chinese solar and Spainish Almeria-type greenhouses

Growth can be defined as an increment in biomass or an increment in weight or height of the organs of the plant influenced by physiological *** of these processes have their limits genetically determined,but climate and irrigation play an important *** of its importance,microclimate has been extensively studied in the modeling as a surrounding condition which is imposed by the exterior *** main objective of this work was to develop a temperature model based on the energy balance dynamics at two different greenhouse locations-South-eastern Spain and Northern China,and the traditional structures of Chinese solar greenhouse and Almería-type multi-span greenhouse were taken into *** final model was developed by combining the external conditions,the actuator influence and the crop growth,where the temperature is influenced by soil,crop,cover,actuators,back wall and greenhouse *** model took into account the energy lost by convective and conductive fluxes,as well as the energy supplied by solar radiation and heating *** soil and the back wall are the main media for energy *** temperature dynamic was determined by a physical model,which considered the energy balance from a holistic point of view-as a sub-model for a customizable interface among the external climate,the plant and the greenhouse *** influences of different subsystems included in the temperature model were analyzed and *** results showed a high R^(2)value of 0.94 for Beijing and 0.95 for Almeria,and the average error was low,of which the MAE and RMSE were 0.71 and 1.365 for Almeria and 0.62 and 1.102 for Beijing,***,the model can be considered as a powerful tool for control design purposes in microclimate systems.

Image quality parameters in application of compressed sensing for MRI data

The acceleration of Magnetic Resonance Imaging techniques is still very important in current development. The application of Compressed Sensing for medical data accelerates the acquisition time and satisfies the image quality. The method relies on the sparsity condition and requires only the most important data instead of acquiring all data according to the Nyquist-Shannon sampling theorem. The paper shows the application of different image quality parameters in order to compare the original method of Compressed Sensing for phantom and medical data.

Background: Experimental and epidemiological studies indicate an association between exposure to particulate matter (PM) air pollution and increased risk of type 2 diabetes. In view of the high and increasing prevalence of diabetes, we aimed to quantify the burden of type 2 diabetes attributable to PM_2·5 originating from ambient and household air pollution. Methods: We systematically compiled all relevant cohort and case-control studies assessing the effect of exposure to household and ambient fine particulate matter (PM_2·5) air pollution on type 2 diabetes incidence and mortality. We derived an exposure–response curve from the extracted relative risk estimates using the MR-BRT (meta-regression—Bayesian, regularised, trimmed) tool. The estimated curve was linked to ambient and household PM_2·5 exposures from the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study 2019, and estimates of the attributable burden (population attributable fractions and rates per 100 000 population of deaths and disability-adjusted life-years) for 204 countries from 1990 to 2019 were calculated. We also assessed the role of changes in exposure, population size, age, and type 2 diabetes incidence in the observed trend in PM_2·5-attributable type 2 diabetes burden. All estimates are presented with 95% uncertainty intervals. Findings: In 2019, approximately a fifth of the global burden of type 2 diabetes was attributable to PM_2·5 exposure, with an estimated 3·78 (95% uncertainty interval 2·68–4·83) deaths per 100 000 population and 167 (117–223) disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs) per 100 000 population. Approximately 13·4% (9·49–17·5) of deaths and 13·6% (9·73–17·9) of DALYs due to type 2 diabetes were contributed by ambient PM2·5, and 6·50% (4·22–9·53) of deaths and 5·92% (3·81–8·64) of DALYs by household air pollution. Continuous defect prediction: The idea and a related dataset

We would like to present the idea of our Continuous Defect Prediction (CDP) research and a related dataset that we created and share. Our dataset is currently a set of more than 11 million data rows, representing files involved in Continuous Integration (CI) builds, that synthesize the results of CI builds with data we mine from software repositories. Our dataset embraces 1265 software projects, 30,022 distinct commit authors and several software process metrics that in earlier research appeared to be useful in software defect prediction. In this particular dataset we use TravisTorrent as the source of CI data. TravisTorrent synthesizes commit level information from the Travis CI server and GitHub open-source projects repositories. We extend this data to a file change level and calculate the software process metrics that may be used, for example, as features to predict risky software changes that could break the build if committed to a repository with CI enabled.
