The article deals with the problems of transferring reliable signals of control and control over the communication channels of complex power supply management systems for production facilities. The discrepancy between the concept of 'information reliability' and 'information security from interference in the communication channel' is mathematically justified. It is theoretically justified that in order to ensure a high level of the system reliability of equipment state signals in the process of technical diagnostics, it is necessary to combine the procedures for inputting information from sensors with encoding. A method of three-pulse correlation coding based on the coding procedure for all sensors simultaneously in three time-separated stages has been developed. It forms two allowed and four forbidden codes that determine the presence and the type of malfunction or the absence of distortions in the information message. A technique for calculating the system reliability of the signals of the state of electrical equipment characterized by the sum of the probabilities of undetectable distortions of information and undetectable faults of the elements of the entire information delivery route and the component 1,110−12 has been proposed. This is several orders of magnitude better than the parameters of modern analogues.

Emotions are one of the most important cues of non-verbal communication, therefore are easily recognized by people. However, correct identification of intentions causes many problems, because telling apart the true emotion expression from the fake one is difficult. Therefore, there is a wide search nowadays for automatic techniques, which use computers to analyze behavior of people and learn the differences between spontaneous and posed emotional gestures. In this research we concentrate on the analysis of facial expressions in order to recognize between Duchenne (real) and fake smiles. Our approach treats the input movie as a dynamic texture and exploits LBP-TOP technique for its description. Additionally, the average facial image is removed from consideration as it is assumed, that only tiny changes differ the smile characters. The results obtained on UVA-NEMO dataset proved that it is possible to classify accurately between the spontaneous and posed smiles. Moreover, the influence of facial parts as well as changes due to a phase of smile are investigated.

The subject matter of the paper concerns improvement of the acoustic emission (AE) method applied for diagnosis of insulations systems of electric power devices. During measurement of AE signals emitted by partial discharges (PD) occurring in insulation systems of electric apparatus there exist different forms of interference sources. Interferences, which accompany measurements performed under industrial conditions may be generated within the operating system or they may be emitted in its neighborhood. Sources of interference signals may have their origin in physical phenomena of mechanical, electrical or acoustical nature. Such interferences superpose on the registered AE signals causing their distortion. Because this may have a direct impact on the correct evaluation of the measured signals gathered with AE method, analysis of the impact of interfering signals on the AE pulses emitted by PD was made. In the paper there are presented results of analysis in the frequency and time-frequency domain, of acoustic interference signals generated by the fans and pumps used for cooling the transformer oil. © 2015 by ASME.

Issues undertaken in the paper concern improvement of the acoustic emission (AE) method used in the diagnosis of insulation systems of electric power equipment. When measuring AE signals generated by partial discharges (PD) in systems modeling their basic form, e.g. in paper-oil insulation of power transformers, different sources of acoustic interference signals may occur. The interferences may be generated by sources located inside the investigated insulation systems and also they may be emitted outside, in its vicinity. Acoustic interference signals superpose on the recorded AE waveforms emitted by PD and cause their distortion. This would have a direct impact on the correct evaluation of the measured signals obtained using the AE method. Thus, an analysis of the impact of interfering signals on usefully AE waveforms generated by PD was performed. Results of spectral analysis of recorded interferences, which included estimation of pseudo-spectra calculated using the MUSIC transform are presented in the paper. For the analyzes acoustic signals emitted by several common type interference sources that may occur during measurements under laboratory conditions were used. In the summary, the impact of the analyzed interferences on the achieved measurements results, i.e. AE pulses generated by basic forms of PD, is presented. © 2015 by ASME.

Developing anomaly detection systems requires diverse data for training and testing purposes. Real measurements are not necessarily reliable at this stage because it is almost impossible to find a diverse training set with exactly known characteristics. The petrol station simulator was designed to generate measurements that mimic real petrol station readings. The simulator produces datasets with exactly specified anomalies to be detected via anomaly detection system. The paper introduces foundations of the simulator with results. The discussion section presents future work in the area of stream data extraction and materialization in the Stream Data Warehouse. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2016.

Algorithms of tracking and action recognition are still under development and many problems still have to be solved. New methods are usually tested on available benchmarks with defined actions and human behavior however such approach has many limitations. For that reason the authors proposed new procedure of generating random action instances using on graph-based scenarios. Such idea can be applied in creation of different datasets as well as in simulations.

This paper concerns improvement of evaluation methods of partial discharge (PD), which may occur in the power transformer insulation systems. This particular study regards the next stage of research works, which aim to determine the energy share of particular physical phenomena accompanying generation of PD. The performed works were connected to comparative analysis of PDs, which were measured with the acoustic emission (AE) method and with optical spectroscopy. The applied measurement setup was specially designed for generation of surface partial discharges (SPDs) in transformer oil as insulation medium. In the introduction section elements of the experimental setup, i.e. the spark gap for modeling of SPDs and the transformer tank model filled with insulation oil will be characterized. Further the measurement equipment and the metrological parameters for both applied PDs registration methods will be described in detail. In the following sections the achieved results will be presented and discussed. In particular spectra of optical signals registered in the range from 200 to 1100 nm and frequency spectra of AE signals registered in the range from 0 to 500 kHz will be presented. In order to determine the effect of voltage value, which was used for generation of SPD, on the registered optical and AE signals, the results will be presented for three relative values: 0.6, 0.7 and 0.8 times the value of breakdown voltage of the applied test system. In addition, results of time-frequency analysis of EA signals, in the form of two dimensional spectrograms calculated using the short time Fourier transform will be presented. In the following section the achieved results of performed comparative analysis will be presented and discussed.

In the paper some results of experimental works on streaming electrification in swinging cylinder system have been shown. Mineral transformer oil is used as dielectric liquid in which charge generation occurs. A shuttle system with swinging cylinder is proposed to study the flow electrification phenomena. Designed system allows for modulation of liquid flow and thus gives the possibility to determine both frequency and phase characteristics of the electrification process. The system is a modification of the Couette system. It uses the cylinder, which oscillates around the specified location. This system retains the advantage of Couette cylinders on the flow hydrodynamics. Construction of proposed system is described. Few examples are presented in different conditions. The results confirm the nonlinearity of streaming electrification.

The aim of the study was to determine the influence of the laser processing on the properties of electro-spark coatings. The properties were assessed by analyzing the coating microstructure, X-ray radiation, microhardness, corrosion resistance, porosity and tribological tests. In addition, the paper presents the results of measurements and analysis of electrical pulse during ESD. The tests were carried out on WC-Cu coating (the anode) obtained by electro spark deposition over carbon steel C45 (the cathode) and molten with a laser beam. The coatings were deposited by means of the EIL-8A and they were laser treated with the Nd:YAG. The tests show that the laser-treated electro-spark deposited WC-Cu coatings are characterized by lower hardness and friction force, higher seizure resistance, roughness. The laser treatment process causes the homogenization of the chemical composition, the structure refinement and the healing of microcracks and pores of the electro-spark deposited coatings. Laser treated electro-spark deposited coatings are likely to be applied in sliding friction pairs and as protective coatings.
