This paper presents a new intelligent agent framework that combines rational decision making with abstractions of sensing and actions for unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) control systems. The objective of the new framework is to provide self tuning and more adaptability to an onboard autopilot. This is achieved through controlloer switching and tuning by the agent in face of dynamic changes affecting the plane due to aerodynamic and onboard system changes. The framework integrates onboard dynamical system identification, hybrid adaptive control, model validation and diagnosis. The agent, tuning and supervising the autopilot, also operates real-time evaluations of abstractions on the effects of its actions in the future. The methods are demonstrated in simulation on a benchmark performance of an Aerosonde UAV.

We consider a networked control system consisting of a physical plant, an actuator, a sensor, and a controller that is connected to the actuator and sensor via a communication network. The plant is described by a linear discrete-time system subject to additive disturbances. In order to reduce the required number of communications in the system, we propose a robust self-triggered model predictive controller based on rollout techniques that robustly asymptotically stabilizes a certain periodic sequence of sets in the state space while guaranteeing robust satisfaction of hard state and input constraints. At periodically occurring scheduling times, the self-triggered model predictive control algorithm determines the times at which the control input and plant measurement are updated in the time span until the next scheduling time. We establish a certain upper bound on the average sampling rate in the closed-loop system. Moreover, we show how increasing the asymptotic bound on the system state, which is a design parameter in the control scheme, can be used to further reduce the average number of communications in the system.

Wind turbine blade has a high failure rate as it has to constantly work under varying loads and occasionally suffer extreme weather like storm and sleet. Online condition monitoring plays an important role in finding early or minor damage to avoid catastrophic failure. Due to the large size of blade, condition monitoring systems often use multi-sensors to obtain the blade conditions in different locations. To deal with the multi-sensor data, most conventional frequency methods deal with the multiple sensor data separately without consideration of their correlations. Further, they have to use multiple indicators to represent conditions of different locations. Third, most of frequency methods are dependent on the dynamic loadings and therefore different frequency features and thresholds have to be determined under different loading conditions. To address these problems, this paper employs transmissibility analysis for multi-sensor based wind turbine blade condition monitoring. Transmissibility analysis considers the relations between different senors in the frequency domain, and only produces one single transmissibility damage indicator to represent the condition of the whole wind turbine blade. This is independent of loading conditions and computationally efficient as the main computations only involve Fast Fourier Transform (FFT). The effectiveness of the transmissibility analysis is demonstrated using both simulation example and experimental data analysis.

With the proliferating of Web services, how to efficiently and correctly recommend the appropriate service for process designer have attracted wide attentions from both industry and academia. The traditional service recommendation with the service interface semantic matching may not work properly, that is, the recommended service will be unusable or unavailable. In order to solve this problem, a new service recommendation approach with case-based reasoning (CBR) is proposed for the service composition system in this paper. Instead of acquiring complete ontology and semantic information, this method mined service processes designed before to obtain frequent process sequences for the service recommendation. Furthermore, the architecture of the service recommendation system with CBR is presented and the experiment is conducted. The experimental result shows the effectiveness of our approach.

In this paper, we propose a self-triggered estimator for discrete-time linear systems subject to unknown but bounded disturbances affecting both the system states and outputs. The proposed self-triggered estimator is a set-valued estimator that employs rollout techniques to reduce the communication between the sensors and the estimator with respect to a periodic sampling strategy. Moreover, at each time instant it provides an estimate of the plant state and a guaranteed bound on the difference between the true plant state and the estimate.

This paper studies the switching control of differential-algebraic equations (DAEs). A specific problem concerned with switched DAEs is that jumps or impulses could be induced by mode switching, which is not well understood in many applications. We aim to find the control strategies that minimize the overall magnitude of undesirable jumps or impulses while rendering the systems achieve the expected behaviors. Applying an abstraction-based hybrid controller design framework, we extend formal methods to the control synthesis for switched DAEs with the specifications expressed in linear temporal logic. Abstractions are computed utilizing incrementally globally aymptotically stable property and Lyapunov-like functions. We illustrate the control synthesis procedure using a numerical example.

A standard operational requirement in power systems is that the voltage magnitudes must lie within prespecified bounds. Conventional wisdom suggests that such a tightly regulated voltage profile should also guarantee a secure system, operating far from static bifurcation instabilities such as voltage collapse. Here we demonstrate that this conclusion is generally false, and that the distance from voltage collapse is a systems-level objective distinct from ensuring voltage limits. We formulate an optimization problem which maximizes the distance to voltage collapse through injections of reactive power, subject to power flow and operational voltage constraints. By exploiting a linear reformulation of the power flow equations we arrive at a convex reformulation which can be efficiently solved for the optimal reactive power injections. We illustrate the performance of our results with the IEEE30 bus network.

Agricultural risks are discussed because of the disasters related to the water regime disturbance. Different tools are considered in framework of the remote-sensing and in-situ monitoring. Global Information-Modeling system (GIMS) is proposed as effective information technology for monitoring data analysis and processing. The GIMS basis is given. Two versions of optical systems are considered for the water quality diagnostics. Algorithm is proposed to the optical spectral images recognition. Examples of simulation experiments with the GIMS-based tools are given.

This paper proposes a method to compute finite abstractions that can be used for synthesizing robust hybrid control strategies for nonlinear systems. Most existing methods for computing finite abstractions utilize some global, analytical function to provide bounds on the reachable sets of nonlinear systems, which can be conservative and lead to spurious transitions in the abstract systems. This problem is even more pronounced in the presence of imperfect measurements and modelling uncertainties, where control synthesis can easily become infeasible due to added spurious transitions. To mitigate this problem, we propose to compute finite abstractions with robustness margins by over-approximating the local reachable sets of nonlinear systems. We do so by linearizing the nonlinear dynamics into linear affine systems and keeping track of the linearization error. It is shown that this approach provides tighter approximations and several numerical examples are used to illustrate of effectiveness of the proposed methods. © 2015, IFAC (International Federation of automatic control) Hosting by Elsevier Ltd. In recent years automation systems have been required to provide characteristics of flexibility and efficiency in order to cope with the fast changes of the market and consumer demands. To deal with these requirements, the industry has started to implement reconfiguration techniques in order to allow the automation system to reschedule the production, recover from faulty situations and to update the controller at run time, among others. Previous works of authors have been aimed at a model-based definition of the plant components and operations, related to a product. Additionally, automatic code generation has been proposed to obtain an optimal control sequence. This paper extends these previous works with an architecture that generates and updates the software architecture of a Programmable Logic controller during runtime, in response to changes on the plant layout, the product to be manufactured or the control hardware.
